Title: McSheffrey BBC Interview
Post by: RoversAlias on January 13, 2022, 04:55:08 pm

An interesting listen with the manager.

- Sounds like O'Toole is a strong option to come in when his Mansfield contract is up
- Jacobs maybe not coming as he wants to stay at Pompey longer and we'll move on to other targets
- Gary ideally wants 5 outfield loanees, so Dahlberg likely to go back once Jones is fit - ideally so a striker can come in
- Gary sees Jones as the #1 and has told Dahlberg this, knows Dahlberg needs to play games

And much more discussed in the interview above. What do people think?

Think it was a good balanced interview.
Good to hear the comments about Jones being No.1
The figures that GMc quoted show that there is a lot to do on the fitness side

It may be necessary to try and avoid the drop at this stage but I don’t like the thought of having five loanees as it invariably means at least half the team aren’t coming back next season.

Dahlberg going back could mean an experienced player coach goalkeeper coming in.

As needs must I’m sure GMC would love a team full of his own players but the reality is that January isn’t the time you can reliably achieve that. To add we aren’t the only side relying on them MK have more

We already have a goalkeeper coach if Dahlberg goes Looks like Ben Bottomley on the bench.

So if that’s the case we should have 3 more loans all out field players.

It's a 14 man game these days. I don't care how he goes about plotting to stay in League One with the personnel

It's not loans that have been the problem, its permanent players on the treatment table.

But we can get an emergency loan in if Jones gets injured so Bottomley would only fill in for part of a game at the most

Big risk just having Jones and Bottomley, get some experience in to help Jones.

Did you miss the part where we can get an experienced keeper on an emergency loan if needed?

If Dahlberg goes back, we need another senior keeper. We can’t finish the season with Jones and Bottomley.

If a new keeper is then added to our list, we’ve got a hell of a lot of business to fit into what’s left of the window.

Yes he did say we can get an emergency keeper but Jones is still got a problem with his hamstring which they are making sure it’s ok. In the transfer window we should not be going that way but that’s down to GMC judgement.

I'm sure GMc has targets for the Summer already, but rightly his focus is on getting the personnel to give us a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.

It's going to be challenging but I still believe we are capable of putting together a winning run and climbing the table. If that doesn't happen and we are relegated, so be it. We can go back over the past year and say this and that but none of it really matters at this point.

I think Gary McSheffrey will prove to be a good appointment. He's not f**king around waiting for players. Good.

I fear our fighting chance has gone, PDX, with the lack of business, to date. We’re about to throw 3 more points away on Saturday which could cast us further adrift.
Then, it’s Cambridge away!

I fully appreciate that, DBR, but I was responding to the ‘fighting chance’ comment.

Yes but even if we’d signed 4 players this week we would probably still lose to Wigan.
So just because we haven’t signed a load of players doesn’t mean we’re not in with a fighting chance.
See what we look like in two weeks time
