This is not just in relation to Jimmy Saville, but across a number of issues.
Starmer has always been a supporter of Cressida Dick, and recently re-affirmed his support.
Dick should have been sacked after that Brazilian lad Jean Charles de Menezes was shot on his way to work under the operational control of Dick.
Thought to be an armed terrorist.....turned out to be neither!

That's correct but sacking the Dick has got nothing to do with Starmer has it Albie? and unless you are across individual cases you don't know what evidence was presented to the DPP CPS either, it's not up to the DPP CPS to find the evidence is it?

That's correct but sacking the Dick has got nothing to do with Starmer has it Albie? and unless you are across individual cases you don't know what evidence was presented to the DPP either, it's not up to the DPP to find the evidence is it?
Starmer may well have a different view tonight of Dame Dick but that's not always been the case Sydney .
They've pyssed in the same pot for years in a professional capacity .

I agree Syd that the DPP considers evidence presented for prosecution.
If that evidence is insufficient, then any prosecution is likely to fail.
Obviously none of us have seen the evidence, but that is not the point.
Saville is mentioned because Johnson bounced it at Starmer in the HoC response this afternoon.
It is the a claim that will likely repeat itself leading into the next GE.
The response to Sarah Everard reveals more about the thinking of Starmer, because he chose to back up Dick when the general view was the Met response was wholly inadequate;

It does raise the issue of what Starmer thinks is unacceptable behaviour from the Met, and the role of the head of the Met in managing those responses.

I find it a bit disturbing that you should throw the same mud at Starmer as johnson did to try and achieve the same aims, a sign of desperation methinks.

No BST, I don't write his script, but I do know what is in it.
All of these set piece exchanges are rehearsed before, with the main players coached in attack and defence points.
Starmer is better at this than Johnson, who has not got the discipline to stick to the prepared line.
What was surprising is not the points that he raised, but how he raised them.
When he feels cornered, he will lash out with whataboutery.
The sad thing is that in a post truth politics, it often works.....although not for Johnson yesterday.
The stand out from all this is that there is more of this to come, and the world of what is true is becoming less relevant to political discussion. This was the case with Trump and Bannon, and Johnson follows that lead.
Back to the real topic, the Met and Dick.
I think it is a major error by Starmer to support Dick, which is out of step with Labour members.

i think you sometimes forget Albie that Starmer is pitching to a far bigger audience than Labour members.
While the Tory party is self-immolating, I don't see any political advantage for Labour in starting a fight with the Met. That would be a great get out for Johnson. "Yes we are having trouble, but look at Labour undermining or police." The finer points of what would or would not be ideologically sound policy don't matter at this point. What matters is getting Labour to a position where they can get into power. And they won't do that by playing to their own members and giving the Tories a chance to throw punches back.
If you want to get rid of Dick (and I do) you need two things. 1) A Labour Govt. 2) A long term strategy to highlight her failings and political leaning for the electorate to see (because much as Labour activists know her, very few of the wider electorate will).
The second one needs her front and centre of public attention. But Labour picking a fight with her is not the way to do it. Leave her to implicate herself if she exonerates Johnson in front of an electorate that wants to see justice on this issue. When she does that, THEN it might be time for Labour to pick a fight over her role.

I'd say that a lot of decent coppers know that lots of their colleagues are wrong uns but keep quiet to keep their jobs. Like the Sarah Everard situation. Good men keep quiet, even though they know what is going on and a woman gets murdered and these good men get to keep their jobs and pensions.
They are as bad as the likes of Wayne Couzens in my book.

My son-in-law is a chief inspector and you couldn’t find anybody more honest and open than him. You can’t tar everybody with the same brush. There are good and bad in all walks of life.

That's fair enough Idler and a valid point. I don't think the police do themselves any favours though as they aren't part of the community anymore and are seen as 'us and them' in a lot of people's eyes. The distrust amongst the police force is at an all time high IMO.

They are under staffed and over worked and have been for years.
I used to train at a police gym for years and most of the lads were great. They have to deal with a lot of hassle from certain sections of society. Theresa May when Home Secretary was very adamant that there were too many bobbies. Years later you have Boris promising thousands of new bobbies that will need training just to replace the experienced officers that had gone. Just the same as the nurses need replacing.
