On a hat trick , already scored 11 for the season !!
-
That’s because he’s found his level….
-
Do we have to have this every time he scores? zzzzz

yes , was he just too good for us ?
-

Probably…
and Whiteman just missed a penalty for Preston…lol

It’s about goal scorers .. we need one ?

11 goals could have put us in a safe pot

To even try and compare any of our strikers with Alfie is ludicrous.
He's light years ahead of any of them.
-
Pathetic thread. We don't need reminding of the merits of Alfie May. Managers make decisions about players at the time.
End of.

At the time it was the right decision to let him go. It's a sign of how far backwards we've gone that he looks like a world beater compared to what we've seen so far this season.

No, but we need reminding about the merits of our strikers. F*cking useless.
-
It was never the right decision to let him go. Or rather sell him
Even as a sub he always gave 100%

Your never too big to cry it’s ok !!

not if 4 of them where tonight where tonight
-
An absolute bloody crying shame we got rid.
-
Based on most of our performances this year he would have had zero chances and therefore scored zero goals.
Most on here would have been calling for him to go.
In the position we were at when he was here he wasn't good enough to get a regular first team place. I don't recall a massive outcry when we let him go.
The fact that he may improve us now doesn't change the fact that it was right to let him go at the time.

Your forgetting he’ll be in L1 next year on a new two year contract !! Hayho !

Not at all. It's a reflection on how badly things have gone here since he left.

The fact is it was wrong to let him go.

Not at the time IMO. We were looking towards the championship not middle to lower league 1.
Now Alfie almost equals ambition

Some said May wasn't League One standard. They were wrong, and we were wrong to let him go. He's too good for us now. We couldn't afford him.
-
At the time we could afford to let him go. He’s made a good job of improving himself while he’s been away. Our situation has been deteriorating for about three seasons. His enthusiasm would help our side but unfortunately we don’t have him.
There is potential in our strikers, they need opportunities otherwise they can’t do anything. Give Odubeko, Agard etc chances and they will score. Griffiths another one who has potential, get him fit and get him on .
-
Just who exactly would be creating the chances for Alfie to score on what we have seen this season?
He wouldn't have got a look in last night against Rotherham, they were far too strong. When we let him go we were looking for better but unfortunately the whole team has gone downhill since then.
-
We had more shots than Plymouth last Saturday. 24 to their 23. The chances were there, but the efforts were predictable and poor.
Alfie would very likely have been more effective.

Alfie may doesn't play for doncaster rovers

Alfie may doesn't play for doncaster rovers
If he did there would be no point in the thread. However, he doesn't and some of us are expressing our regret at letting him go.
-
Max waters was better ,how far shall we go back?
-
So was Billy Sharp, but we got a good payout for him.
-
Big alec

We all know he doesn’t but how many topics do we see about Billy Sharp, John Marquis etc ,quite a few
-
He was a great player to have around the dressing room as well, was gutted when he left.
-
When I saw us being bullied all over the pitch on Tuesday, I thought that’s just what we need another midget! Who needs a 6’3 striker, a centre half and two wingers who can run 100 in ten and half seconds, like Rotherham.
:suicide:

Does he do card tricks?

May left us in Jan 2020.
Over the following 13 months, our league form was.
P36 W22 D5 L9 PPG 1.97
That is right up there among the very best long term spells of form in our history.[1]
Doesn't look like we missed him much over that spell.
Yes the wheels came off after that. But are we supposed to keep every player against the day that they might be needed?
[1] It also gives the lie to this stupid concept that had taken hold, that we've been going backwards for 3 years.
-
I believe he was an asset to the club
I don’t understand why so many people dislike him and feel he wasn’t good enough
He obviously was as he’s playing in a team performing better than us and scoring
Saying that I suppose we should move on and forget him. He no longer plays for us.

2018/19 - 6th
2019/20 - 9th
2020/21 - 14th
2021/22 - probably bottom
How is that not going backwards? and please don't mention the good form in the first half of last season, because it's absolutely irrelevant. We didn't continue it and came 14th.

Good to see the facts there SS.

He gave everything to the team and would have him over quite a few that are here now.
-
Absolute
-
We need to see the attitude of Alfie May throughout the team. I don’t think it’s him, himself we miss it’s his constant hard work that we’ve lacked in the team all season.
-
He just seemed a likeable bloke, we gave him his break and he seemed to be grateful and humble because of that, which is why I think lots of fans including me feel such an affinity with Alfie.
-
Watching his effort, endeavour, enthusiasm, determination, loyalty and respect for the club and the supporters was worth the entrance fee alone.
