......was that of course our first ever league win against Sunderland, but the 38395 is the largest crowd we have played in front of in Tier 3 since it was regionalised in 1958-59, beating the 34287 at Sunderland in 2018-19.
The only team left that we have played in a Football League Match but never beaten is Newcastle.
We have never played Chelsea, Forest Green, Salford, Harrogate or Sutton in a Football League match.
We have not beaten Accrington Stanley since the returned to the Football League in 2006-07, although we have beaten them on many occasions before they were expelled in 1961-62.

This is superb stuff Dutch.
-
We’ll sort the Newcastle one out in the champions league in a few years lol!
-
Excellent stats again, Dutch, and many thanks.
Keep them coming.

Great stuff as ever Dutch.

We need to address the Accrington one later this month

We were on the back row - don’t think I’ve ever been as high up at a match, although with how many stairs there were yesterday lol

So was his penalty.
-
I reckon they’ll have still found a way to win even if Woods scored the penalty. They were like it all season.

I do believe that ball is still orbiting the Earth on an ever decreasing trajectory.
Astronomers have named it the Nike-Woods Satellite, and expect it to enter the Earth's atmosphere in about 5 years time.
It was certainly going at a fair old lick when it passed us on the top shelf.
Good old Martin eh??

Dutch I was reading the Sunderland forums yesterday and there was guy questioning whether this was the biggest attendance we have won in front of in the normal league season. He reference us beating Liverpool in the old division two as one of our largest.
Have you any idea if this is the biggest league crowd we have won on front of; outside of the playoffs? Thanks
-
Sorry Aidanstu – just seen this – interesting question.
Just excluding Playoff matches yesterday’s 38395 is not even the largest crowd we have won in front of in Sunderland – there were 49435 at the FA Cup tie in 1953-54.
However I see the question refers to League Matches only. At a quick glance I have found 14 games where we have played a league match in front of more than 40000 spectators, all away matches of course. Of these we have won 3 and drawn 2. The largest crowd we have been victorious in front of was 49659 at Liverpool in 1955-56 (different sources also give 49751) – we won 2-1. We have also won twice at Hull in front of more than 40K, 1-0 in 1948-49 and 2-1 in 1950-51.
I haven’t checked fully on crowds between 40K and 38395 but I did notice we won at Notts County in front of 39719 in 1950-51.

Highest Attendance (Belle Vue): 37,099 vs. Hull City, Division Three (North), 2nd October 1948.

15001, actually. If you look on off-topic today, you'll realise why I'm such a pedant.
