Tuesday Ipswich play the second of two easy games against bottom teams when they rock up in Doncaster, a team they ran riot against earlier in the season and will see the game as a given to win if they are to get into the top six playoff positions.
The front three Chaplin, Pigott, and Norwood will be licking their lips at the thought of playing against a defence that ships a lot of goals, and the defence an easy night that does not extend them before meeting stiffer opposition.
Well let's just hold it there, we have had two good wins away to top six sides, and Ipswich are no Rotherham.
We have just beaten MK Dons away a couple of games back and today have righted a wrong of near on a century and have at last beaten Sunderland in a league game, although we have not mixed very often in their company in nearly a century.
Nor have we with Ipswich although over a much shorter period, another once big club in stature who have slipped back over time and are now a regular fixture with us in division 1.
After such a great result at Sunderland, I cannot see if all are fit to play us making many if any changes to the line up, or should I say I hope not, a settled side for a number of weeks would be quite a novelty after the last twelve months.
Would you make changes?
Can we or should it be have we a chance of making it two wins in a row?
Will Gary and Frank have a cunning plan?
Looking at the Ipswich team should we fear them?
Has todays result restored some of your faith in the team?
Are you going to the game?
Have you given up hope of survival? I haven't by the way for the record.
Absolutely lots to discuss and mull over about this game, please have your say.
-
Think i'd go for a similar if not same team as played today, it's important we get some consistency now. Only changes i'd consider really would be Agard instead of Mibo from the start
-
Fitness, amongst our half fit recruits and returnees means there will be changes. Impossible to avoid if we want to keep them available beyond the short term.

Big test for the lads and management. Massive confidence boost beating Sunderland and the manner in which they did so. I don’t think anyone will be getting carried away but if the team applies itself like they did against Sunderland then who knows…
-
I think to beat Ipswich that the formation to go for is a 4-2-3-1. Charlton beat them with a 3-1-4-2 formation. Others have matched up and come away with positive results ,either draws or wins. I just think our players did well in the Sunderland game with a four, three back there could leave us open. They don’t get beat very often obviously ,as they are having a good season .
It will again be a real battle that needs the whole squad working for each other. As with the Sunderland game, I do think we can win this one. As much as the Sunderland game took a lot out of our players I wouldn’t want to make changes, I would start with the same eleven that started that game. Obviously changes with subs might be needed earlier. The good thing is we have bits of experience to come on from the bench.
Their striker Bonne is the one to watch. Griffiths if he plays like that against Ipswich will cause them problems. Martin just needs to keep playing he is a quality player. Younger maybe nothing flash at right back but gives solidity. Jackson looks a bit of a find. Odubeko could do with a goal to get him going, he did really well for the team in the Sunderland game. One game at a time. Try to build momentum and consistency.

The Constant?
-
Reproduce the Plymouth game but iron out defensive mistakes and now we have Reo we can beat Ipswich. Problem is that we don't know if we'll get the Plymouth performance or the Rotherham performance.
-
I know games come thick and fast but, I'd love to see the same starting XI. The bench is looking stronger so no need to tinker as good reinforcements can come on should there be any fatigue.
-
According to their forum, their win on Saturday against Gillingham was the worst they've played this season and the two or three games before that were not much better.
So maybe all not well in the Ipswich camp and confidence isn't as it should be. I think we should get at them from the off and get in their faces and see if we can put them on the back foot.
-
Same team as Saturday. I'm sure there won't be any of those who played who don't want to start on Tuesday night.
-
As said on another thread, the concern is energy levels to play at the intensity that we clearly want (and need) to. But of course I see why we’d probably want to go with the same team and system. Nobody deserves to miss out after that performance.
-
Think they’ll all start except maybe Ro-Shaun for Knoyle (switching Ollie back) depending on his fitness as he’s been injured.
Feeling a bit more confident of us snatching something than I was a few days ago. So we’ll lose 0-5.
-
I think if we a serious about doing a Houdini act and escaping the drop this is just about a must win game imo.
We have to start putting back to back wins together.
If we do win and then go to Pompey on Saturday and win that one then I will seriously start to believe we can pull off an escape.
Having said that I will take 4 points from these next 2 games but would happily take 3 if we go to Lincoln and win in the following game.
We simply have to pick up a substantial no of points in this tough set of fixtures or we will leave ourselves too much to do in the run in.
It’s one game at a time though, it is pointless looking too far ahead really.
Let’s get some consistency in results.
Ipswich is a huge game, we really do need to start winning at home again.
Let’s get the fans right behind the team. Winning home games will do that.
-
Yes. No wins in 2 months at home since we beat Shrewsbury, although it is only 5 games but this needs to be rectified. Puts a bit less pressure on the big game at Pompey if we can manage to beat Ipswich.
-
Ipswich fans were well on their players backs yesterday. Hopefully more of the same Tuesday from us and the town fans.
-
I'd take anything from this. Just pleased with how McSheffrey got Tuesday's embarrassment out the lads' system quickly. It was good to see how well they played and how much they wanted it, particularly in that last 25 minutes or so when it was backs against the wall.
-
Go in nice and solid like we did against Sunderland and get what we can out of the game. Ipswich do drop points on their travels. If we can control the midfield we can win the game. I don’t look at that Ipswich midfield and see real quality. I can see us beating them but only if the team is all up for the game ,as they were against Sunderland. Stifle Bonne up front and we have a chance.
Last six away for Ipswich
Lost 0-2 Barrow FA cup
Won 4-0 Gillingham
Lost Bolton 0-2
Won Wimbledon 2-0
Lost Sheff Wednesday 0-1
We have a win lose sequence to break to beat them. They are really up and down recently.
-
I watched that FA Cup defeat at Barrow. Ipswich barely created a meaningful chance. They can be very brittle and short on ideas at times, especially if we set the tempo.
-
Ipswich are exactly the same as we are, a third division outfit, not that good a team and are still on a gradual slide.
Yes they have some history, and had a period when they were a power in the football world with great players and had two of our greatest English managers in charge. It is history means nothing in the modern game and they are not that good, better than us possibly but in the last month we have at least closed the gap with our signings, and a win tomorrow is not an impossibility, and we need one badly.
If the players believe in themselves, have gained some confidence from the last two away games and results I see no reason why we cannot turn them over and get the win we desperately require in front of our own fans to lift the whole mood around the place.
-
I think the contrast of the last 2 games will be of great benefit to us. Turn up don’t play get battered and then immediately after we see what happens when we do play
-
You can stream the action live to your living room with an iFollow Rovers pass for £10

My Ipswich mate reminds me their budget this year was 40 million .
-
My Ipswich mate reminds me their budget this year was 40 million .
That would be eye watering if true. Their last season in the Championship was 2018/19 and their wage bill was £19million. Their last filed accounts were for 2019/20 in League One and their wage bill was £12million.
-
I've had a cheeky fiver double on rovers to beat both Ipswich and Portsmouth, returns just shy of £160 with a well known betting company.
Am i being overly optimistic that we can beat 2 teams much higher up in the league although neither of them are in that good a form? Maybe.
Am i being naive in thinking we can string not 2 but 3 fantastic results together knowing how we usually fare after a victory this season? Probably.
Do I believe the rovers can do it and pull off what would be one of the greatest of great escapes? You better believe it baby.
I'll be there tomorrow in the south stand cheering on the lads come what may, and hopefully my drive home will not be as miserable as last tuesday.

We need to reproduce our Sunderland form between now and the end of the end of the season, We will stay up, Next 3 games are very winnable, 9 points will make a big difference to the table, especially if those teams around us lose their games.

They've won five out of their last seven league games under a new boss. What we'd do for that form...
A draw would be a good result. A win would signal that we might, just might be turning a corner.
-
Yes, I'll take a draw. Any and every point is valuable.
We haven't had a penalty as far as I can remember. Who's going to take it?
-
Well, just got to do the 10 miles to the kids school and drop her at after school club then i'm setting off for good old Donny straight after, via picking chums up in Rotherham en route so that's me done until after the game.
Hoping for a cracking game, incidents, us getting a penalty, lots of goals - mainly for us, lots of chances and 3 points.
I predict that we will 100% get a penalty tonight.
For once back to back amazing performances and i'm going for a 3-1 Rovers win. COYR!!
-
Simply out classed by team who were just better organised and composed . Good performance but short of the right pass in the final third .
-
Think we could have played all night and not scored disappointing thing for me was all the long balls straight down the middle, battled well but need to be much better
-
Ipswich will finish the season stronger than anybody in the division IMO. If they make the playoffs i fancy them to win it.
-
Hardworking effort, just outclassed by a team far too good for us.
Ipswich are a big club, and they've got talent all over the pitch. No shame losing to them.
-
We surely gave them too much room to play in the 1st half. We put them under pressure in the second and they looked more ordinary. Why did we not compete more intensively from the start?
-
I know this has been done to death but there are EIGHT potential senior starters who are out injured. Unreal.
-
No shame in that defeat against a very good outfit. Thought the keeper could have come and collected the high ball for the goal but made a couple of smart stops and his distribution was superb. We looked better as a 4 4 2 but this nullified Martin a little , also I thought if we pressurised the back line of Ipswichs's a little more it had a mistake or 2 in it
-
I thought that was awful, didnt get near them, when we did just a long ball booted up for their centre halves to win the headers. Could play another 90mins and we wouldnt do anything there were no ideas from us. Ipswich very good footballing team but thought we would have more fight tonight.
-
I know this has been done to death but there are EIGHT potential senior starters who are out injured. Unreal.
I don't think those players would have been good enough to beat Ipswich, CBCB.
-
We looked a bit leggy and a yard off it tonight, which is not what you need against a team that just knocks it about. They were neat and tidy on the ball and have a lot of quality in that squad but we didn't get anywhere near troubling them sadly. We had good defensive shape though which was pleasing and didn't just fold like every other game this season. Olowu again struggling with the positions he takes up and balls into the box.
Ah well, on to Pompey now.
-
Credit to Ipswich, played like prime Barca, we were 5/10 yards off them all time time, I’ve not seen a team at this level for a long time play like they did tonight, cracking one touch and move from them.
I don’t think there was much we could have done to combat them, fair play to Gardner who tried to get close to them, Rowe and smith were very poor first half.
We go again on Saturday and hope we play a little better
-
We played a team who played that game far better than Ipswich 7 days ago.
-
Battled well a I thought but beaten by a better side and possibly best footballing side we have played this season but thought we defended well to keep the chances limited although not sure if they had a few more gears to go through just hope we can recover and go again Saturday
-
Another game at home where it looked as though we were a plucky underdog from the lower leagues playing a team in the top couple of divisions. We had 0 shots on goal, at home against a team that was 9th in league 1. Our demise is staggering.
-
Outplayed.
We had no answer.
So very disappointed after that great performance and result at Sunderland.
We did not create a thing. There keeper will not have another game where he has to do less that is certain.
We now need to win the next 2 games or we will have too much to do.
-
We played a team who played that game far better than Ipswich 7 days ago.
That's why they're top of the league.
-
We played a team who played that game far better than Ipswich 7 days ago.
Yeah, you said so earlier.
-
Ipswich pinged the ball around like Brazil. Thank goodness their finishing let them down or they'd have got a hat full.
0-1 was a tremendous result for us on reflection of their complete dominance.
-
No spark tonight. Maybe playing a containment strategy and hope we can nick one but sadly, couldn't get on the ball enough or press enough. Rowe nor Martin able to effect the game enough but Ipswich are a good well drilled team with a couple of tricky players. We were perhaps too one dimensional especially towards the end when we could have mixed it up a bit with either Agard and or Dodoo but midfield didn't seem to have the energy to press anyway.
As said before, I would have glady taken a point but nothing lost, still 8 points difference and we move on.
-
Reo was a disappointment tonight. Expected a lot more. Love to hear why Agard has been cast asunder too when we need goals.
-
Not footy related but the weather tonight was weird. Before the game it was really mild. At half time i was freezing my tits off. Didn't expect that! Anyone else?
-
The goal tonight was a microcosm of why we are going down.
Fundamentally we don't operate as a team. We are a rag bag assortment of 11 individuals.
For 30 seconds before they scored, we had individuals sprinting out of position to fill gaps, only to leave other gaps that they exploited. Often we make heroic blocks or tackles, but when you are as uncoordinated as that, eventually you get hurt. That's what happened with the goal. They inevitability worked a bit of space for the cross and a bit of space for the header. But the real problem was that we had been pulled ragged for 30 seconds before that.
It's the same going forward. Regular punts to an isolated striker with no structure around him. No supporting player. No-one making runs through the line. So that even if he gets a touch, it's not going to fall for us.
The attacking throw ins are glaring examples of this lack of structure. We have zero plan. We wait for someone to do something then throw it in their general direction and hope. We have no form if bog standard tactic where a couple of players make zig zag runs to try to work a little space. We look like a disorganised bunch waiting for something to happen.
It's been like that now for 12 months. We look like players meeting for the first time. I don't know if it is poor players or poor management - I suspect it's been both.
Contrast with Kidderminster on Saturday against West Ham. I assume that man for man their players are not as good as ours (although ...). But they were superbly organised. They defended and attacked as a unit. Players breaking in support when attacking. Players knowing where to slot into defensive gaps when a defender stepped up to pressure the opponents.
This should be a bare minimum. We were so much better organised under Moore, for all his faults. It is frankly shocking that we haven't had any semblance of that sort of disciplined structure for 12 months.
-
Ipswich have a team full of men, everybody knows their job. They are solid, don’t give stupid goals away and have the advantage of playing all season together.
We on the other hand started the season not fit enough. We had a change of management, change of ideas, turnaround of staff, have nearly a full team on the treatment table, plus we shop for players a lot lower down than they do.
Our average wage is nowhere near theirs, they are underachieving, we as fans believe we are too, when in reality we have overachieved for many seasons. We have been dropping back as a club for about three seasons, little has been done to stop arrest in our fortunes.
This transfer window it’s like a stick of dynamite has erupted underneath those who run the club. They suddenly realised we have a problem. Our club reacts to things, there is no forward planning, until that changes we will struggle to do well.
-
What a waste of a signing Agard is if Barlow who is literally conference north at best comes on. Runs round scared.
-
You would hope that a good deal of our current problems can be sorted in time, ie the secret six coming back from seemingly career ending injuries, the entire squad having a pre-season behind them when many haven’t played for a considerable time, huge turnover in players over last six months and need to gel. There is a talented group of players in there, that needs time to gel and return to fitness.
What I still don’t know yet in what McSheffrey is trying to do and whether he is adding value. Unfair given what he was landed with to make this judgement yet, but you would be pressed to say he is doing a great job so far. Maybe more to come.
-
One positive tonight was another decent cameo from Gardner. There is also definitely something to work with in Griffiths but we've get to work out a way of giving him some service. Maybe the return of Galbraith will help.
-

Still eight points difference but one game less to make up the gap.
-
We didn't play a containment strategy against Plymouth and were excellent. Defensive cock ups cost us. Then we play containment against Rotherham and Ipswich and get beat anyway with no shots. What's the point. We got smashed for 5 against Rotherham but i'd rather have seen us throwing caution the wind, having shots and chances and get smashed 5-0.
Containment at this stage of the season, at home is more negative than me! We need wins. Our goal difference isn't going to be made better so may as well get beat 10-0 than 1-0. Don't understand the mentality.

The throw ins are awful, aren't they? Very amateur.
We did, for once, put one or two decent corners in though, as well as some bad ones. Would have loved to see, I think it was Seaman, try to score direct from one in the second half when their keeper & defence were strolling around in no man's land having a natter. Instead he played it short & then was given it straight back in an obvious offside position, d'oh !!!
-
Perhaps the flat atmosphere at home games also has an effect? Difficult to work out. Not for the first time though at home this season, our opponents kicked off and then proceeded to spend the next 15 or 20 minutes dominating possession and camped in our half. This makes the atmosphere flat and sets the energy feel on the pitch and around the ground.
When do we get at teams from the off GM? When do WE stamp our home authority on visiting teams and get the crowd up for it straight away?
-
Couldn't catch the game was busy with other things but read reports from our leading fan pages, TWTD etc. Some minor in-fighting between some of our fans about how the result went about. Some weren't happy about our style of play and bemoaned missed opportunities while most were just relieved to get the victory and its all about winning without really playing well to get it. We did the very same thing in our last game.
Some of your fans insist we're a good or very good team  would beg to differ as I've been with it right from the off and we're not mid-league or have been for no reason. Yes McKenna has done excellent since coming in but we make a number of mistakes and our attack is often powder-puff and defence can sometimes be found in disarray. We may string a few results together and be pushing in the right direction but no way is this team promotion material. Not this season anyway.
I don't want Doncaster to fall into League Two. Gritty Yorkshire club that deserves better, I do hope you can survive for another season even if the odds are against it.

that was Martin who took the quick corner and ball played back to him and offside,to which idiots behind in south stand said he can’t be offside as he has played it behind him, couldn’t make things up sim of stuff same group come out with sumtimes

the club telling the stewards to put ppl in their seats instead of where they would normally be (stood up at back of south stand around the drum) hindered the atmosphere massively. Hopefully it won’t be like that again. Should be able to stand on the steps behind the railings imo like it has been ever since the south stand went unreserved imo.
-
We do miss a few characters that go and take charge of the game. I don’t think at times the manager has got the results that the improvement would then show up. We do still look lightweight but we have added bits of quality.
Martin looks a good player, Griffiths looks potentially good. The left back Jackson is promising. Seaman once he is fully fit will be a good player. Odubeko badly needs a goal to get him going, he is doing ok but there is more to come.
I still think this side could just about stay up. We have to have the mentality of when we lose to a better side, then just move onto the next game. The games we have left, the players will only get fitter. There are a few options. We need to play to our strengths, we cannot play long ball so don’t try to.
