Title: Storm Eunice.
Post by: normal rules on February 16, 2022, 02:49:10 pm
I never take too much notice of the weather. Because it’s usually hit and miss.
But this storm coming our way on Friday looks like a bit of a beast.
I’ve never seen winds of 80mph + forecast for out neck of the woods as we live East coast so the prevailing south westerlies usually burn out by the time they reach us. But forecast they are. Goodness knows what the West Coast will be getting.
Stay safe folks.

We need to get over Storm Dudley first, it’s a tad brisk out there at the moment

I think Dudley has pretty much passed over York now. A lot of gusty wind and rain but it seems to be calming down now. No damage from what I could see driving home.

Dudley is not the one that will hit central and eastern parts of the UK.
That’s just the warmup act for Eunice. The met office are saying for 80-90 miles per hour winds to hit central England is extraordinary.

The gust speeds for tomorrow shown on ventusky do not make good viewing.the darkest colours at midday are wind gusts in excess of 140 km/h.
Consider this. 80mph winds exert twice as much force as 60mph winds. This will be particularly evident tomorrow sadly.

Fingers crossed. Donny does seem to be right on the northern edge of the amber warning areas of the maps. With a bit of luck it might not be quite so badly affected.

It's a close thing though, they are still predicting the East Midlands will see very high wind speeds.

Just looking at the BBC forecasts, as of now they are predicting Doncaster to see wind speeds of 50-55 mph around the hours of midday but Retford to see 70+ . Make of that what you will.

Surprised there wasn't more of this, our lights flickered numerous times but stayed on.  Did see a neighbour's flat roof fly off though.  Fascinating in some ways to see the wind grinding things down.

2 broken fence panels for me but fixable.

We had a fairly placid day in York until late afternoon. Then we got two or three hours of wild weather. To be honest we had it worse the other night.

It looks like it's been a rough day, particularly down south where there have been some extremes but I don't think it's been on the 1987 sort of scale has it?

Been a bit breezy down here, lots of power outages and police reports of 140 trees/structures come down across the roads - at least one person seriously injured from them.

I think there are two big differences to 1987, that was in the Autumn and the trees were still in leaf making them more vulnerable - and this time we were prepared for it. Or as prepared as we could be.

I suppose it was Franklyn howling away all night.

We have a live Christmas tree in a pot in the back garden. It managed to turn that over and it's a damn heavy tub it's in. That took some force.
