Title: Embarrassing “lap of honour”
Post by: 1-0 to the Doncaster on April 23, 2022, 06:09:03 pm
Not many players showing humility at the end . Embarrassing seeing a “lap of honour” from the players and manager.
Dodoo clapping as though he’d won something.
Relegated after an awful season and we all clap the players.  Fans simply accept how bad we are and clap them off. Unbelievable! Our players  don’t deserve anything.

Not sure the same fan friendly happy clappy would be seen at other clubs. Rovers fans just accept relegation and clap the players off at the end of the season . Flabbergasted!
Plastic fans just accepting relegation and clapping the players off.
Mcsheffery out.

Does seem a bit odd. Like voluntarily slamming your head in the wardrobe door then writing to MFI to complain about the hinges.

Is it not a thankyou for your support?

I was gone as soon as the final whistle went…none of them deserve applause.

Pointless post. Just something to moan about for the sake of it.

Kinda where I'm at. They played well today so I did clap them off at full time.  Wasn't staying for a lap of honour though, no chance.

I did the same, worth applauding today's efforts.

They even messed that up, how many times I heard that the players were going to the changing room and then coming back out I’ll never know. Even considered going on the pitch to get banned lol

The stewarding today was an utter disgrace. Think it caused most of the issues.

The players, such as Bostock, who went to the crowd as soon as the game ended probably made the day for lots of kids.
They were signing stuff and doing selfies with them.

As for the stewarding, I don’t know what happened but after our second goal I saw one lad being ejected from the ground then things seemed to escalate quite quickly.
The group of teenagers went down to the front and appeared to be making a fuss.

No the issues are caused by the idiots.

Did they actually do the lap of honour? I waited behind a good 10-15 minutes and I was sat there so long I was asked to make my way out and that the players wouldn't be coming back out.

Not sure how you can have a lap of honour when you're relegated, more a lap of shame. Went as soon as the whistle blew.

I went for a pee and when I got back it seemed that it was all over. I thought that they were going to the dressing room and then coming back out. I hung about for 5 minutes and then went as there were only a few Burton players warming down and Ollie Younger out there.

Should have replicated that scene from Game of Thrones and everyone chanting shame shame shame. Joke of a season.

I wasn’t there so don’t know what went on. But was it maybe a can’t win situation.

People criticising players for applauding the crowd.  If they’d walked off and done nothing they’d have been vilified beyond belief.

I think the lap of honour, and the fans acceptance of it - with no boo's or protest - told the hierarchy at the club all they needed to know about how the fans on the whole will react to any of their decision making - with abject apathy.

Was like watching a collective shrug of the shoulders.

Agree but let’s look forward to next season when the manager deserves a decent chance.

Agreed. It is really just a way of saying thanks to the fans, especially this season, for what they have had to endure, as opposed to parading round asking for appreciation for their efforts. The players aren't stupid and they have professional pride. They know they have vastly underperformed and it has resulted in relegation. I imagine younger supporters would really appreciate it as despite what some people think these players are heroes to our young fans and it really is a no win for the players. Had they not gone round to acknowledge the fans then they would, quite rightly in my opinion, have been accused of not caring, lacking respect, going down and not caring etc.

Hopefully the recent 'actual' crowd numbers have told them what a useless job they're doing. There was probably 4000 there at best yesterday

Unfortunately there are some, quite a lot it would seem who would try to find a negative out of something positive.

I seriously despair at some of the ridiculous comments on this thread.

The players were not going to the crowd to receive adulation, they had just overseen a humiliating relegation.
They went to thank the fans for their fantastic support.
Thankfully we do have very many fantastic loyal fans at this football club.

Exactly CR and it was stressed throughout that it was players thanking the fans for the support

Well we had a good day yesterday. The wife paid to upgrade me, my son-in-law and grandson to go for the pre-match meal and sit in the padded seats. The players looked better than earlier in the season and the sun was shining. A pleasant hours drive home as well.
Am I disappointed in this season. Of course but I have been disappointed every time. My very first season we were relegated for the second consecutive season meaning Div. 2 to Div. 4 in two seasons.
Relegation in 1966/67 after going up as Champions in 1965/66 was really hard to take and cost us many fans long term despite going up as Champions again in 1968/69.
Relegation always hurts but without relegation Wembley and Brentford could never have happened. Dust ourselves down stop feeling sorry for ourselves and go again next season. Life goes on and remember that those that don't go ballistic and stroppy after a bad season are feeling as hurt and disappointed as the most vocal supporter. A spoken statement is likely to be just as valid as one that is shouted at the top of somebody's voice.
Just my opinion of course but I'll be watching the close season as closely as anybody and hoping for a good outcome in August.

Campsall every fan as a right to post what they see fit to, they have just witnessed a very turbulent season that’s had more downs than up, both on the pitch and also behind the scenes we have suffered this season and a lot of fans feel let down in many ways.

Yes Upton but there is criticism and there it the constant swipe at every tiny thing.
You and 1969 will never be happy. You would find fault with promotion to the Premier league.
You just don’t even attempt to see any positives.

I always thought it was the players showing their support to the fans for their support throughout the season.

It is a tradition to thank the fans for the support during the season. There would have been loads more criticism if they hadn't have done one. It is like saying when we walk L2 next season with 100 points, Don't celebrate it, Because we should never have gone down.
