Brilliant news.

I tried to explain to Tyke months back that initiatives like the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, set up with the support of the EU and last Labour Govt, were the future of modern jobs in South Yorks. We aren't going back to heavy industry and back breaking manual labour. The future is in high technology stuff like this.

Just been on Air Notrum site on Wikipedia and the order is on showing 10 Aircraft. Their fleet of 49 seem to be geared to internal
Routes in Spain.

This is good news, as likely unknown to many there still remains a decent core of engineering bias personnel in this borough who could benefit themselves and companies like this in the development of this type of initiative.

We have at our organisation quite a few who would be interested in this field being ex RAF. The money would have to be fantastic though :)

I diddly squat about airships, my main questions are :-
How fast are they ?
What height do they fly at ?
What distance can the travel ?
Do they have to fly from airport to airport ?

Very positive news.

And of course it revives the tradition of airship building in the area. The R100, designed by a team including Barnes Wallis and the author Nevil Shute among others, was built by Vickers in Howden.

I’ve read the link, thanks, but I don’t fancy it in the same way I don’t fancy going in either a helicopter or a glider.

It might be useful for freight because it surely isn't going to have the speed of conventional aircraft but with a 10 Tonne payload capacity even freight is questionable.

This article throws some light on the issue.

Has Donny airport being chosen because of the length of the runway.  If I’m not mistaken it’s one of the longest in the uk

I suppose this will hopefully means quite a few jobs being BBC available which will be good news. If this is successful the airport might grow and develop

Id hazard a guess that the eastern side of Donny with nice flat open areas with good links to the motorway network would be a good call to site a new manufacturing facility. Jn4 M18 looks like it has all the requirements.

I actually thought of that project first, then i remembered see a site drawing that looked like all the available area was already earmarked for development of different types. Can't see any reason why a project like this couldn't be incorporated into that development.
