Thanks for the tip off about the Radio Sheffield interview. Found it thoroughly absorbing and thought it deserves a thread in its own right.
Thought he spoke very well about a wide range of things.
For those who listened what was your assessment of it and how he's progressing?
Thought the format was much better than the old managers special they used to do.

Like you DBR I felt he came across very well decisions he made at the end of last year that’s the back room staff was improved. Getting players in that we needed, the build up to signing a LB and the loans incase we couldn’t. Hoping the two other Trialists will dig and talks they’ve had although I think it could be done already. Reasoning behind the GK and money required to get better in wages.
It was a good listen. Looks like he wants to keep Okenabirhie if he can prove his fitness although he’s talked to their clubs. He was realistic about funds. There only certain amount of players we can get in this transfer window. There certain amount of players that could go but they are still contracted and might have to wait until next transfer window although if things could be done we might be able to get a player or players in.
He spoke well and was happy with what he had to say. I found him more relaxed than his interviews from last year.
-
It was a good listen, and it wasn’t a love in, there were a few disgruntled fans questions. GMC handled it well, sounded at ease and in control.
Two players that we have on trial are the last bits of business he intends to do, however I got the impression that if he could move a couple on, he has some players in mind.
-
We obviously know interviews mean very little but I think that’s the most comfortable Mcsheffrey has spoken whilst he’s been DRFC manager
-
He did come across well and didn’t dodge anything. He is clearly very keen on Tomlin. Surprising that Ben Jackson was another option we were looking at this season. He was also fairly clear that some lads could still leave this window. Didn’t dwell too much on Agard when questioned. Dream not over quite yet for the Rosso lad!

He definitely seems to have grown into the role, spoke about getting a spark back for the first time since stopping playing. People don’t realise what a big lifestyle change it must be. Only negative was him turning out to be off meat lol

3 words spring to mind:
Cool. Calm. Collected
I sincerely hope that continues.

He spoke very well and explained why things have been done in the way they have. Also it came across to me that he could be very persuasive with players by using his own experiences and convincing them that it isn't always about the amount of money they earn that will make them happy and content in their career. This trait could be very important to swing talks in our favour at the level we are currently at.
-
I agree he came across really well, I think he feels now he’s got Steve Eyre with him it gives him more confidence that if he’s making mistakes Steve will steer him back on track - he didn’t actually say that but did say it’s important that his back room staff have experience which he doesn’t currently possess.
-
Great interview. Down to earth, straight talking. Think everyone’s ready for the new season now. Bring it on
-
Not quite sure of the dynamics for last year but he doesn’t seem to mention Frank much
Very honest interview though

He's gone back to the youth team.

Yeah I know just a comment. GMC mentioned Hernandez going back to the youth team but no mention of FS

Who were the three fans who phoned in and enhanced the programme by their questions to GM ( and their positivism) ?
-
Think one was Derek from the Shadow Board
I had a text read out
-
Do we know who disgruntled from Thorne was who's vowed not to go again?
Then again, who cares, his premeditated loss.

They were unusually coherent and sensible. Not entirely convinced they were genuine fans.
-
Whoever the guy was from Thorne, my sympathies are with him and I can understand where he’s coming from. It’s a good job GM was a little more understanding and was quick to say he’d be welcomed back with open arms, if he gets the desire to return.

Seem to remember he was called Chris might be wrong also said Club Doncaster has ruined Rovers

Yes, he was a bit more diplomatic than me. Folk are entitled to be p*ssed off but not being open minded enough to see if things change is what gets my goat.

Really impressed with how he came across, feel like he's vastly improved this in his interviews. A lot of stuff discussed and a good insight into how some things are working and the work they've done this window.
Said they'd had about a dozen players in the building for chats, signed 6 with only 2 of the 12 going to other clubs (1x L1 and 1 x L2 club).
Thought he went into more detail than managers usually do when discussing things (e.g. our goalies and the value for money in what we pay them)
Worth a listen

One of my favourite bits was when he was asked "if you were offered Messi & Ronaldo and could only take one, who would you take?" and without hesitation he replied "Lee Tomlin"!!
-
Interesting hearing the variety of players they're talking to. Wonder who the lad from Liverpool was they were talking about on loan. He was right though - much prefer having a signing than a loan.
Only bit that made me wince was when he said Tommy Rowe is probably the best left back in League 2 - but he was probably just saying that to big him up than genuinely believes it.
-
It's a funny old game, after relegation most wanted him to get the tin tack and start again with someone new me included.Roll on a few months and what's so far being perceived to be decent summer recruitment, a few good pre season games and a good interview and peoples perceptions have changed.
I agree he spoke very well but i'm still unsure he's the man for the job, I look back at some of the tactically inept decisions he kept making last year and while i'm more than happy to give his chance with this team I can only hope he's learned from that and with a new assistant to help him maybe he has.
The proof will be in the pudding..

I said from the start. McSheffrey is an intelligent fella. He was an intelligent player and is converting that into coaching and management.
From the point he took a little time to think about the managers job, to going for it, he knew he didn't have all the tools and needed support around him to accelerate his learning. Part of that learning is making mistakes and constantly reassessing.
The guy has self belief not necessarily self confidence but that is growing day by day. He's a quick learner.
We were and still are desperate for some continuity and give time for GM to develop just as Warne did at Rotherham. He has a vision and a belief in how the game should be played and the type of players needed to help him achieve that. He simply didn't have all the tools he needed last season.
With having Copps of similar football and life beliefs keeping each other focused and looking at the bigger picture, together with Eyre, the task master/coach on the training ground, I think it won't be long before we're comparing them to O'Driscoll.and O'Kelly.

Liked the reference to our league two stay being viewed as a ‘Pitt stop’.
Buzzing for Bradford now, let’s get off with a big win.
-
Its strange but great to feel the club is finally coming together again - I am now getting concerned for the moaners, what will they do with all this positivity. I think catering and chip-gate may be seen on a few posts.

Has anyone checked on 1969

Let's be fair, he's not alone although the others are more conspicuous in their absence than he.
He's probably thinking it all counts for nothing so far, as we haven't kicked a ball in anger yet. In that sense he'd be right.
-
That is true DBR, however, I am not bothered if we don’t win the league, I just want my team to look like they know what they are doing, have a chance of winning, and mostly compete!
I have watched the last two games, and we look light years away from the last two embarrassing seasons. Nothing to do with results, as nice as they were, it is the performances.
The last two performances - if that is how we play this season, would have been more than enough to keep us in the league above. League 2 is tough though, and there is some decent sides that all think they can go up. We will be up there.
