Title: Loved that
Post by: Drover on July 30, 2022, 05:19:42 pm
Get in,like someone else said, that feels like a win, well done the boys, you could have easily dropped your heads, like we so often did last season after Tomlin's silly stint but you did'nt,just hope he is alright mentally and smart enough to apologise to his team mates and would be nice if he did similar to the fans and he can brush himself off and we all move on,all in all a great start and we hopefully will improve even more as the games go on.

Apparently it was too many injuries to players leading up this game that required the tactics to be more scruffy and frustrating. So we can expect more of the same for the next few matches !! Good game all the same !

I certainly won’t be watching the highlights show on t.v tonight, but I’m chuffed that we stole a point from the game, Mitchell is a good con man, he should have scooped those oranges up and made a jar of marmalade from them.

I think the Huddersfield game a couple of weeks ago was a brilliant warm up for this game, we kept our shape throughout. Well done Gary and Steve.
By the way Bradford are going to have to improve a hell of a lot to justify their favourites status. What happened to the other team everyone was waxing lyrical about …Stockport. Yes I know it’s only the first game

I loved that too, proper true grit stuff.
Don't want that every week but at least we have some fight.

That game showed we have steel in the side, not the jelly we had last season. Proper mesters, rolling their sleeves up and keeping their composure and discipline in that 2nd half. Superb.

Nice to see an iron Will running through the side. Worked for each other and got a point. That’s pride in wearing our shirt. Need to build on that.

Well our performance has really riled the Bradford fans up, comments such as, ‘time wasting from minute one’, ‘anti-football tactics’, you know you’ve done a good job when you get under the oppositions skin.

I've seen "pub team".
Have we been called that before somewhere  and we no what happened  then .

I got a bit of stick in the Corn Dolly after the game. They did wish us well for the rest of the season though.
It wasn't pretty but if we had to do that with the players available then so be it. Getting a point there and keeping a clean sheet will do well for their confidence.

Heard this a lot on the way out of the ground.

I imagine Bradford fans haven’t watched any Mark Hughes teams over the last 20 years!

Exactly this and for this reason I don’t get why Bradford were favourites based on having him as manager

They were tactically inept that second half.

If I was a Bradford fan I’d be more concerned why against 10 men they kept lumping the ball into our goalkeepers hands than creating much to win the game.

It was very disappointing that yet again we were scratching around to put out a side due to injuries, and even more disappointing that we were done to 10 men so early in the game - but that aside, it was a superb performance given the circumstances and a great foundation to build on. Defence in particular demonstrated what should now be possible for the rest of the season. They looked and played like a coherent unit. More of the same please.

Anderson
Close
Taylor
Rowe
Younger
Griffiths
Molyneux

Start of season, not mid-March. Not one of them fit to start yesterday.

Is Younger injured or just not picked.?

Could be but with a bench of seven and development players on there ahead of him, you would think unlikely.

Other than the long-term trio though, one of whom did come on as a sub, they are all understandable.

Molyneux and Griffiths both have impact injuries, Rowe had a minor problem just badly timed before the game. Younger we aren't even sure is injured, he may just have not made the squad.

It doesn't look nearly as bad if you discount Close and Taylor, who have long-standing issues affected by last season's rehab nightmare.

One thing I think yesterday showed is that we need an extra option in midfield. It was a cracking point given the circumstances but when he had 11 players on pitch we couldn't put a pass together and didnt have that body in the middle to get on the ball. Obviously Close will be that player when fit but when that is we will never know.

We played too deep whilst we had 11 but to be fair, Rowe’s injury and then the aftermath of the tackle probably put any game plan out of the window

What about Barlow?
Title: Re: Loved that
Post by: Chris Black come back on July 31, 2022, 03:05:12 pm
Yes, and Barlow. That’s a lot of players who you would expect to make the match day squad out injured. For the last 18 months we have had this. Not just one or two, but consistently several players out at the same time. Mystifying and frustrating in equal measure.

Why is it obvious that Close will be that player? He didn't look anything like that kind of player in the games he performed in last season.

We showed a spine of steel, which is a massive step forward after the past 18 months.

That's one of the hardest matches on paper out the way, and we'd have all taken a point at the start. So getting it after Tomlin's d**kheadery is a fantastic outcome.

Be more instructive when we come up against some lower ranked sides to see if we've got the nous to open them up.

We might be better placed to do that, Billy, when we have a proper side to put out and a bench to back it up.

Hopefully, that will be sooner, rather than later. But Saturday will be too soon for most of the injured!

Too many on the treatment table, it can’t carry on like last season. I hope things have improved on the medical side of the club. We can’t keep paying players to sit in the stand.

Younger was injured. Happened on the Thursday before the Bradford game.
