He also got an N and a T.

The point being that an A level failure might not prevent you making a very good living for yourself.
-
Hound, I think you missed BSTs joke.

Does help if your mummy and Daddy are millionaires though!

I know the retired Traffic Cop who 'Pegged the tosspot' for speeding on the A638 at Woodlands, 55 in a 40! apparently he has only ever
Been done for speed on that one occasion.!

Hound, I think you missed BSTs joke.
Does he do anything that isn’t serious matey.
-
I hope the boat sinks & a shark gets the git.
-
I wouldn't wish that on a shark.
-
Well I like him.
-
Tell you what it is about him that makes me despise him.
It's not the "watch how edgy I am" 50 year old racist jokes.
It's not, as Stewart Lee says brilliantly, the politically incorrect rants he belabouredly serves up to a deadline in the papers once a week, almost as if he didn't believe them himself.
It's not the "I figured out how to make myself rich by serving up a diet of Lib-baiting for the likes of BB to consume" smugness.
It's not even him taking the piss out of the Rovers in that video, pathetic though it was.
It's this.
He writes for the Sunday Times. About 25 years ago he wrote an article about Conisbrough. In which he nastily and vindictively played on every stereotype of the post industrial North that the golf club bores who lap him up would ignorantly trot out themselves.
The thickness of the people. The idleness of the dole scroungers who inhabit the place. The ridiculous accent. The shit houses. The disgusting diet.
That's how he made his money that week. By shitting on the people and the area that he grew up next door to, and serving up shite that feeds other people's ignorant prejudices.
If I was kind, I'd call him a white Uncle Tom. But what he actually is, is a Kitson.
-
I was ambivalent to him until that documentary.
Subsequently to that, I have loathed him not just for taking the p1ss out of us, but the fact it was the easy option, rather than show any empathy to us and our addiction.
He thought our passion was risible.
Dr Johnson once said 'I query no man's hobby horse' but Clarkson thinks otherwise. Arse.
-
He makes his living in the public eye playing to an audience that enjoys a 'jack the lad' character. Doesn't matter whether that is as a politician (great example currently occupying No.10), an entertainer, or any other profession that relies on a 'following'. It makes no sense to piss off the majority of your following just to be nice to a (relative) minority, many of whom are unlikely to be among your audience anyway. Where he was born is irrelevant.
-
Point is Pies, he didn't have to do that hatchet piece on Conisbrough. He CHOSE to do it. For financial benefit. He chose to write a disgusting, nasty piece of shit about a place 5 miles from where he grew up. That's why I think he's a Kitson.
-
I'm from there. I grew up there. I left the place 25 years ago but it's still the dearest place in the world to me. I wouldn't dream of making money by telling people who instinctively loathe South Yorks people and places and culture that all their ignorant prejudices are right.
That Kitson did.
-
Still outraged then.
-
I don't imagine Jeremy Clarkson expects to appeal to someone as precious as you BST. That's why I like him.
-
There must be plenty of actors and comedians who make a living out of taking the mess out of where they came from and their local, accents.
Sometimes people have to be able to laugh at themselves.

So he hurt your feelings? Christ I thought it was something serious.

Correct , its always been the same with this type of media whore.
I think we need to also be true to ourselves and say that what he says has some validity and we know this because we come from these places. We should all be grown up enough to be able to laugh at this along with the totality different demographic that this guy now mixes in. If people hung on every word he uttered then they'd be the ones who the joke was on.
Everyone has to make their way in the world and this fella has had a decent stab at it, can't abide the bloke myself but there you go.
Live and let live.

hmmm, if only you and hound followed that aye?

I seem to recall he did a bit of a hatchett job on the Rovers, something I would never do slag off my home Town or my home town Club. sorry to say I love Donny and it's Marcy, moaning population.

Daft as it sounds, the publicity a team like Rovers would get from someone like Clarkson sounding off about them would conversely be more positive than if we were never mentioned. Highlighted the club to people who never even knew it existed.
-
What do you mean a bit like "Accrington Stanley, Who Are They?
EXACTLY
-
The difference is we all take the mickey out of ourselves, our fans and our team because we love the cub so much.
I can take good natured banter from fans of other teams but occasionally you get some tosser who only watches football on tv big timing it and denigrating your team and fans.
This person to me is like Clarkson who believes that he is far superior to his place of origin and the people that live there. Good natured ribbing is fine but to openly decry a whole community or area is deplorable.
-
I agree with Billy - I despise Clarkson. Not for what he said about Billy’s Conisborough though - I wholeheartedly agree that anyone who grew up there is a Kitson.
But apart from that, he’s just a t**t.
-
Donny's a f*cking sh*thole.
But it's my sh*thole, and always will be.

Presumably you mean this article BST?
I have to say, I'm struggling to see what in that article justifies you still being offended by it nearly 20 years later. The article highlights the growing north/south divide and the problem of our talented youth upping and clearing off to London at the first opportunity. The most offensive thing he says is that people over 40 in Donny have no teeth. A typical Clarkson flippant over exaggeration that is quite obviously such. Did you really take that remark seriously?! He states that it's grim up North, that literacy rates are lower than in the South, that we have problems with crime and unemployment and that houses are worth a fraction of what they're worth in the South. I'm not quite sure I could (or still can) disagree with much of it. I note incidentally that he directly criticises the Blair government as well which i would imagine touched a nerve back then. Yes it's glib, yes it should be taken with a huge pinch of salt. But deserving of 20 years worth of teeth gnashing....nope.
Clarkson is someone I have a begrudging respect for. I say this from a position of knowing a number of people who have worked with him primarily in the motor industry. He's arrogant, egotistical and I'd liken him to School Bully from those Ripping Yarns stories. He does however have I'm told an incredible work ethic and is quite clearly a very clever man. Anyone who saw his programmes on the Victoria Cross or the St Nazaire raid or the Greatest Britons episode on Brunel can see for themselves his passion and enthusiasm shine through. He has now reinvented himself as a gentleman farmer with accompanying show on Amazon (who's paycheques bought him his massive farm/estate in the Cotswolds) which even the Guardian (who historically detest him) gave a 5 star review to. He's using that platform to highlight the sorry plight of Bitish farming and he's rapidly becoming the darling of the agriculture sector. Nobody was more surprised than I when he did a recent Grand Tour episode to highlight the effect of climate change on river levels in the far east.
He's not for everyone and I daresay he is indeed a boorish, arrogant, big-head. But anyone who finds themselves so triggered by him as you seem to have been, has completely missed the point.
EDIT - plus, he did punch Piers Morgan in the face so he can't be all bad.
-
He lives up the road from me. He is annoying the locals around him quite a lot. Parking, expansion, building, noise are all issues he is facing as a result of his latter day activities. He had to hire his local village hall for a public meeting a year or so ago.

Maybe some of the locals around your parts have as much hate-filled jealousy of anyone and everyone who becomes successful as some of them around here do.
