It’s going to be a long walk to work or to go shopping for some people when the busses and trains are on strike.
Seriously though, won’t this just add to the reasons why people don’t go to city centres.

Good. The Sheffield zone is excluding the worst polluting HGVs and commercial vehicles. Get them out of the city centre and it's better for everyone who lives, works and socialises there.

I agree with the concept of clean air zones and think its something that needs to be implemented and expanded upon.
I'm not sure how legitimate business will feel about the way its being implemented,as Hound says i can imagine a sea change to the composition of inner city areas (that's already started) thing is i'm not sure it will be for the better.
i can't remember outside of night socialising the last time i went into Donny centre, i've been told it's akin to Shaun of the dead but not quite as funny.

I understand that to be the case, so in effect will they be charging vehicles that are deemed to be polutting over the newer Euro6 standard. IF so this would cause the least able to be unable to use their old bangers in the city centre, that would be right in theroy but in practice it would condemn these individuals to have to use the sub par puplic transport?

Lorries are a necessary requirement for deliveries to most city centre shops so it will inevitably put prices up again if they have to pay to go into the clean air zones.
Either that or the businesses themselves will have to take it on the chin and further reduce profits at a time that they are struggling to exist.

The Bristol ULEZ includes private vehicles. It will have three effects.
1) The cental ULEZ area will become less polluted, although the increased pollution in the city as a whole will drift into this area. So how much will polution be reduced by n the targetted area? As far as I know, this has not been calculated.
2) Areas immediately outside of that ULEZ will become more polluted as vehicles take the long route. They will also become more congested, multiplying the pollution to the city as a whole.
3) People unable to upgrade their vehicles who live in the ULEZ are being offered a deal to buy a new vehicle, though for many this won't be enough. So we get the ULEZ becoming an area where wealthier people move into, poorer people having to move out.
That's pretty much it, essentially a Labour controlled council, with the Greens being a force since the last election with as many seats as Labour. But still Labour Mayor and all Labour cabinet. Greens and Labour for the wealthy - disgusting.

No. Read what I wrote. Those CAZs will not be excluding ANY private cars.

So let me get this straight, people can turn up in their 1990 clapped out banger and not be restricted because they will be paying for the privilege.
How does that equate to a CAZ, ?

Passenger cars and motor bikes are automatically exempt in Bradford.
Local businesses up to Small Medium Enterprise can apply for up to three exemptions as long as they are registered in Bradford.

Either extra costs to the customers or less profit for the trades people.

I work all over the UK, my current van is a 2014 model, euro 5, 185k on the clock.
Since these announcements the price of used euro 6 models has risen while my van is pretty worthless now, I'm looking at having to find about fifteen grand for a compliant van, it will probably be a couple of years newer with 100k or so on the clock.
Fair play to Manchester & Andy Burnham, their take on it is that these charges won't clean the air at all, just put more financial burden on businesses, small businesses in particular. Their aim is for grants to help us out in upgrading to cleaner vehicles, as happened when such zones were brought in darn that there London.
I'm all for clean air, a tenner a day or fifteen grand to avoid this is a tough pill either way.

No doubt wood burning stoves will be banned soon as loads of people are turning to them to get their gas bills down.
Bristol university will be drawing up their b*llocks studies and research and priming the BBC, the guardian and whoever else wants to run their bullshit .

End user issues are separate to how modern burners work.
Installers try to educate their clients on best burn practice on hand over.

I am more concerned about folk who get an older stove working without having it serviced......the people who don't get the advice, rather than those who do!

That reminds me of the miners strike in 84 selby.
The Thorne Colliery football stand had every bit of wood chainsawed out of it one night and the row of poplar trees all along the opposite side of the ground were cut down and logged the same night.
No one in the village heard a thing.

I'm feeling a bit put out because I bought a VW diesel which was supposed to be green! Economical with a low Co2 output that was so good the government felt they could offer no road tax to encourage people to buy these vehicles....
Then particulates became a bigger issue than Co2 and suddenly diesels are the very devil.
So now. I'm just hoping York holds off from banning these for a little while longer.
