Interesting story about another Doncaster. Raises a lot of issues to do with colonalism, how First Nations tribes were viewed and treated in 19th Century Canada, under direct British rule.
Should be twinned with Doncaster, Quebec, Canada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doncaster,_Quebec
A very interesting history with an outcome of a dispute that went in the resident First Nations favour. The township was named after our very own Doncaster.

Just seen this - very very interesting indeed. Not sure about twinning with a place of population 4 people, but e.g. Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm seems to be the nearest place of any size, but is more than 39 steps away
Maybe with new city status we should try to do more twinning - Doncaster in Australia for a start?
Of places I have lived Maastricht is fabulous and has no twin in England. Carnival has to be seen to be believed and it claims to have more pubs per 100 population than anywhere else in Europe. Would be a terrific choice and wrt size and importance IMHO an appropriate choice. Hopefully its strong EU significance will put no-one off.
Swansea, Bangor (County Down) and The Hague also have no twin in England

If you can let us know what benefit it will give a place like Doncaster to twin with someone else i'd be all ears.
If its just for some road signs and a civic reception with a jolly attached for some Council big wigs then i'm not sure we gain too much from it.
I am aware we twinned with some places a few years ago and named some roads around Lakeside after them but not heard much since.
Is this still a thing? i say that because the council don't seem to have two pennies to rub together at this time and i would imagine their priorities should be on these issues.

Don't know much detail beyond a general desire to create cultural and hopefully commercial links:

Reckoning of colonial past is big in Canada at the moment. The treatment of First Nations especially in relation to residential schools. I think it would benefit our Doncaster being twinned with Doncaster Quebec, would be have link with Two First Nations tribes who jointly run the township. It would give our Doncaster the kudos of twinned with another Doncaster that has First Nations heritage, which could be brought to the fore in the twinning ceremony, while our Doncaster can share with the Quebec, Doncaster, its industrial heritage, i.e. Railways, stean engine building, and mining.
I hope the city council will consider this twinning, definitely outside the box, but could richly benefit both Doncaster's.

I can just imagine visitors from Doncaster being amazed by the plastic pedal boat swans on Pickie Pool in Bangor ( County Down )
