It's an opinion , whether he's right or wrong I don't know but thought it was worthy of posting .

The much maligned (by many of you on here) BST has explained exactly this several times on here over the years.
And yet again the powers that be fall on the side of Austerity again in a futile attempt to 'balance the books.'

In the eyes of the public 'austerity' gives any government a purpose. It gives a reason for unpleasant decisions arrived at for political rather than economic reasons. It gives an excuse for previous actions. It lowers expectations too. Austerity is win-win for a government. If they can bring a rabbit out of the hat then the government are miracle workers. If there is no rabbit then the government can claim to be steadfast, devoted to the public interest, and, a victim of circumstances. And above all, the whole thing can be based on numbers that are guesswork at best...

In other words a sophisticated con trick

In this case, I fear austerity maybe unavoidable, at least in the near to mid term. This recession is being caused by a supply side problem, a lack of affordable gas, energy and fuel.
If we kick start growth someway now, surely it will increase demand for energy to increase, causing more inflation, pushing us back to square one.

........ and a lack of people to do the work, it's a shame that those capable of being trained were not given the opportunities when those in government were in the planning stages for life after brexit.
