Agreed Steve, would add Ben Close aswell, thought he was excellent first half.

For me Clayton is not the problem it’s the midfield who in some games have no movement

It's not just the midfield though. Sometimes it's not that easy to identify where the source of the lack of tempo is.

Is it not passing the ball quick enough or lack of options from players not getting into position quick enough to receive a first time pass?

When Clayton plays I wonder if Biggins and Close, often take the easy option of letting him take the first pass and distribute from there. He then becomes like the quarterback figure rather than us being more dynamic with anyone of a number of players receiving the first pass from the keeper or centre half.

That said, they seemed to work a bit better as a three on Saturday.

When it works well, we see them popping up all over the pitch when the movement is flexible. When it doesn't work well, is when it's too rigid with players reluctant to come out of position. It's generally fear of making a mistake that stifles good movement particularly in the defensive half.
