I make this over two years now with exact same failings time and time again:
Truly terrible defensive performance
Slow, like really, really, really slow, with no pace anywhere
Playing side on dreadful run of form and losing
Jon Taylor getting injured
Passing around at the back before then lumping ball forward and losing possession immediately
Absolutely no urgency from anyone on the pitch
Bullied everywhere
-
Wtf has happened to our club ?
I’ve just about finished with em it’s embarrassing
-
We are pathetically poor. Tactics are an absolute mystery to me - and to the majority of our players judging by what I’m witnessing. I can’t remember ever feeling so utterly disillusioned with my team and I’ve been watching them a long, long time. The attendance on Thursday v Rochdale will be as bad as the team’s performances I suspect.
-
Its called self sufficient. thats what gives you a total shit show, its here to stay.
-
Butler, Wellens, McSheffrey and Schofield.
All of them playing basically the same horrific football with entirely predictably terrible results.
I said ages ago that we can write this season off already and should prioritise getting safe from the drop, then try and get a grip of what is happening, because this is consistently piss poor.
-
Our passing out from the back football was outwitted by a half-hearted press. Not even a full press.

I was just logging on to vent, but you've just written precisely what I was going to say.
Absolutely f**king abject. There's not a semblance of professional pride throughout the side. 11 players going through the motions of being professionals.

I think we’d pass it to an opposition player if they stood still tbf. Absolutely shocking

Let's go bust, at least the football might just be worth watching along the way.
-

Exactly this, totally negated our tactics by not pressing our cb's , just got into their own half and maintained their shape. I don't think the press was half-hearted , just tactically astute
-
In DS defence he hasn't has a transfer window to address these issues?
-
Those two goals in the second half were utterly embarrassing. No pressure, no challenges as players ambled into the box unmarked.
Where is the f**king professional pride? Where are the players prepared to bust a gut to prove they are better than the other side?
We are a bunch of unprofessional wimps.
-
In DS defence he hasn't has a transfer window to address these issues?
Sorry, but that’s no defence for that performance

No one's defending it. Just stating things may hopefully improve within the next month.
-
Need two cm's for starters
-
Don’t even know where to begin analysing that”performance “ .. except to say “amateurish”
-
Our recent managers have presided over horrible to watch football but invariably some fans come up with the “he needs a transfer window to sort this out”.
After the transfer window nothing changes.
Repeat, repeat, repeat.
-
I can’t help but wonder who in their right mind would want to transfer in. If Donny was the best offer they were getting would we even want them?
-
We are so slow & predictable.
The number of times in the first half Mitchell passed the ball to Anderson only for him to take a touch, look up, turn & pass it back to Mitchell only for him to look up, point 'somewhere' before passing it back to Anderson who then took a touch. looked up, turned & passed it back AGAIN to Mitchell it was not only frustrating to watch (must have been in the double figures) it was embarrassing. Even the Tranmere supporters were cheering 'the move' (taking the p**s & rightly so) why?
What the heck are we doing on the training pitch?
And Clayton, deree me. If he never takes another dead ball kick I'll be delighted.
We are so pedestrian.
Is it the manager? The tactics (gawd knows what they are!)? The players?
We are a bang average Division 2 outfit.
I'll carry on buying my season ticket but, can I really be bothered to travel a round trip of 146 miles in winter to a Stadium that has become about as welcoming as 'The Ice Queens Palace', & then to sit in the cold & dark to watch the sort of football that has YET AGAIN been served up today? I don't think, after 50+ years of support, I can honestly put myself through that.
Please don't tell me 'I'm a fair weather supporter'. I think I've paid my dues many times over through the years. For the past two seasons or more, I have just felt totally 'detached' from this team. bar the odd player like Tommy Rowe.
How sad is that.
-
The problem is the board, there is simply no care or ambition anymore and we are just going through the motions.
75 percent of the fanbase can see it a mile off, but sadly the remaining 25 think they can do no wrong.
There’s so much wrong with the club right now that we don’t even know half the issues in the public eye. I’m just hoping something can be resolved before we fall through the trap door.
One look at most of the social media responses to anything the club posts now just show a bunch of disillusioned fans!
-
No leader on the pitch.
And no leader off it .
-
Don’t even know where to begin analysing that”performance “ .. except to say “amateurish”
Abysmal ?
-
Just think we get beat under Schofield without playing overly bad. The worrying thing is its an improvement from the last manager and i cant see anything drastic happening in January.
-
We had the Tranmere commentary on and they summed it up really well.
Tippy tappy and slow, not what I would want to watch.
-

Without playing overly bad? Who have you been watching? We are absolutely shocking. And you think it's an improvement over the last manager? I don't see anything any different at all. Same old, same old.
This is an awful league, with the exception of a couple of teams. Evidenced by the fact that despite how awful we are, we're only 5 points off the play offs

Listening opposing fans laughing at our hopeless football just about sums up what we have become, an utter, total embarrassment.

Been with my brother in law today who lives over that way and is more a rugby man.
“Going through the motions” his exact words.

Really is sad, just to say you're not on your own thinking this way.

Only the second time ever I’ve left a rovers away game early. What a shambles of dull football. Can we please get rid of Mitchell. It’s painful to watch.
I took my lad for a quick trip to Anfield and Goodison. Far more inspiring

Mitchell is absolutely shite.
But you can’t say that on here apparently as he’s “a good shot stopper”.
Like any of the saves he makes, any other competent goalkeeper wouldn’t make.

Two questions, Mush. Who do you suggest we should get in League 2 that's better than him? and why are you singling him out for criticism amongst a team of frauds masquerading as professional footballers?

I’m singling him out because il be honest he frustrates me the most.
It’s not my job to suggest and find a replacement. But i can’t wait until we do get one.

Because we go in to every transfer window with a “he’ll do” sort of attitude.
-
Two fantastically bad windows were when we went in looking for a striker and came out in one with nothing and signed Kwame Thomas and Rakish Bingham, and the other Joe Dodoo. Absolute amateur hour.
-
Absolute minimum is a good CB, a good CM, and a good CF to work alongside George.
I'm not holding my breath though.
-
It’s true they don’t work as a unit and that some are injured but we have a long list of contracted centre backs at the club in Anderson, Faulkner, Olowu, Williams, Long and Younger. We might benefit from a new one (or two) but we’d need to shift out some of these lads if so. No side at this level can have that many senior centre backs on their books, nor a group that when played are so consistently abject as a defensive unit.

This is how bad things have got at the club. When you compare performances of the 2 managers this season i would rather watch us now. We at least create chances which is an improvement. Outcome still the same. Shocking all over the pitch. Not one player willing to die for the shirt.

Generally speaking success is primarily down to one thing , recruitment .
Get the recruitment right and most of the time everything falls in to place .
Arteta at Arsenal was getting called everything from a pig to a dog by the Gunners fans not too long ago and now he's the " second coming " .
They've recruited extremely well and gone from absolutely no where near the champions league to topping the PL and 7 points clear which is extraordinary .
From the outside looking in the recruitment at Rovers isn't good enough and hasn't been for a while .
-
Agree on recruitment and, adding to the OP, we are still highly deficient down the left hand side of defence. Something that we thought and hoped would get fixed last summer but which seems to be just as bad as ever.
Defensively, we've been a shambles for a long time now. I like Knoyle as a right-sided midfielder and I think that Mitchell's done ok but, otherwise, have any of our defence signings over the past 3 years been a success?
-
You just know we are going to sign 3/4 players from Huddersfield/used to be at Huddersfield. Then be stuck with them on three year contracts when the new manager doesn’t fancy them.
-
Tactically we create nothing against low to mid blocks and are vulnerable to counter attacks. That tells me, that short term, we should sit in and try and counter teams. We did that against Grimsby and played well.
-
At our level the best teams we have had have been the full of energy, hard pressing, run all day teams a la Dave Penny or the very skilful, technical adept, and intelligent teams a la SOD.
As we are currently we don't have the energy of one or the brains of the other. JC and DS are trying to create according to the laid down criteria with the completely wrong set of players(bar two or three possibles)so for the tactic to work we need an influx of players with the right skillset, basically a full spine as the one we currently have is defective and beyond repair.
So what can we do in our predicament, it seems the direction of travel from the top down is to be sustainable and able to self finance our existence, so that rules out the skill and brains and we are left with the energy, run all day, youthful and bright type of player.
There is a pyramid below us of hundreds of these types of players, young, cheap, full of energy and intent, all we need is the skill and nous to be able to select the right ones.Lots will complain that we are going for the cheap options again but that's were we are now as a club.
Plenty of homework for you James.
