Does anyone know if the club is considering lifting the ban on away games being ticket only?

Does anyone know if the club is considering lifting the ban on away games being ticket only?
Is this the club's decision, or is it on Police advice - genuine question.
-
Good idea not, what the club needs now is more d**kheads at away games
-
I have a reason for asking.
My youngest son lives in London.
He likes to get to games close ish to the city.
He went to Colchester. Orient, had tickets for Crawley, and plans to go to Sutton and Swindon.
He works in the city. He is a responsible lad , who has a number of friends who like to go to football matches. They do not readily associate themselves with a club. They are always asking to go to games with him. They like the social aspect of it. We got one friend of his to Orient with us using one of our family database accounts.
He took two friends to Colchester with him.
He has a good five or six who could go with him to away games. But we simply don’t have enough accounts on the database to help them out.
So do they register for accounts,?
Multiply this across the rovers supporting spectrum and we are probably missing out on floating/ neutral support.
And whilst away games benefits the host club, I just think football as a whole loses out. The minority spoiling it for the majority again.
-
Just get them to sign up? not as if away games sell out every other week, is it?
-
If it’s a case of getting them on the database then why would this stop idiots of doing the same?
Cripes, you could even create a false name and address.
It seems like a pointless exercise.
-
NR, why are you so keen on making it very easy for idiots to attend away games? Friends of yours?

Cheap shot barmby. If you knew me you wouldn’t even think that let alone say it.
We are a lge 2 club. Not Millwall. We don’t have a rep for this.
My lad had tickets to go to Crawley with friends. I was not originally planning to go but sat morning , prior to it being called off, I was having second thoughts. But without a ticket, and with no chance of getting a ticket delivered to the ground, it was a no go for me. I don’t live in donny. Many rovers supporters don’t live in donny. So last minute decision to attend are scuppered being ticket only.
How many other lge two clubs have this policy in place?

Not sure why people are rushing to shout 'normal rules' down here, they're making a valid point.
I have a few mates who aren't Rovers fans, but if Rovers are playing an away game near them they're usually up for coming to the game with me. They've no interest in going through the process of registering with, and giving their data to, Rovers for maybe a game a season or less. Thus, they won't bother with the games.
Also on the 'all-ticket' for every away game subject, as an exile it means I'm having to pay for ticket postage for every game too, which doesn't quite seem fair.

If the minority who don't behave didn't act like spoilt brats maybe they would

You do have the option of collecting at the away ground. In the past I've been away and not been able to get down to collect from the ground and they've sent them back with the media team available for collection at the ticket office at the other ground.
Worth asking about.

Really? Can go back this up with evidence?

This option seems to have stopped. I had to pay postage for Tranmere... and then they didn't arrive in time and I had to collect replacement tickets at the ground. [insert shrug emoji here]

It was never officially an option, if you're looking for it on the website, but I've done this multiple times.
-
I’ve routinely collected away tickets at the away ground - but in those circumstances I buy via a phone call to our TO to check this will work.

I always ask to pick them up on the day Viva. Saves on postage (and any worry they will get lost).

I generally arrange for ticket pick up at away games.
Did it at Orient, wimbledon, Colchester.
You just cant trust the postal system to deliver, but the media team at the club take care of ticket drop off.
But, if you decide to go after ticket sales have closed, then you are scuppered.

Can’t trust the postal system because they might be on strike i suppose?

I've had issues in the past (well before any strike action) with the post and subsequently used the 'pick-up service' on a couple of occasions.

I've followed Rovers since mid 80's and since early 2000's due to now living in London I have been to most grounds in the southern/midlands possible. I still get to some home matches but most seasons more away ones. As a general rule the fans away are no worse behaved than at home. They are not the idiots described above and to be honest I find that comment offensive. I always preferred to make a late call on going to games rather than trying to remember to book online or ring which I do now. We generally have a better atmosphere away than at home with players being encouraged and willed on louder than tends to be the case at home. The effort fans go to to get to away games deserves a bit of respect. Wasn't it after vocal criticism of the board at away matches that this retrograde step of not being able to buy on the day was taken? By the way for what little it is worth most away fans are sound and I've only ever had obnoxious comments (which you have to just rise above) from a Millwall and a Birmigham fan.

There has been vocal criticism of the board ever since John Ryan left in 2013. So No.
-
My understanding is that there was some disorder at some away games earlier in this season.
And someone, somewhere decided to punish well behaved supporters from getting to away games easily. Ie pay on the day.
-
Club Statement:
Following another increase in anti-social behaviour, Rovers can confirm that all remaining away matches in the 2022/23 season will be all-ticket.
The policy was first instigated last season after an increase in disorder at away matches, which led to several arrests and banning orders for Rovers supporters. The switch to all-ticket resulted in a noticeable decrease in incidents.
A relaxing of the policy this season has unfortunately brought a fresh increase in anti-social behaviour. This has included use of pyrotechnics, incursions onto the playing surface and attacks on fellow supporters.
Therefore, effective immediately, the all-ticket policy has now been reinstated. Any ticket purchased must be allocated to a unique supporter ID and sales will end at an advertised time prior to the game.

Been a lot more recently and got the impression that the club had simply had enough. Might be wrong, but that's how it seemed.
-
I was a bit doubtful of that statement at the time and nothing much has changed to make me think differently. Clubs prerogative if genuinely poor behaviour but I didn't see any the games I managed to get to. It is possible that it was due to issues I'm unaware of maybe. Like the original post I would like to see pay on the day at away games reintroduced.
