If we still have a sell on clause for him then hopefully for a ridiculously large fee

No idea what the sell on clause would be but if its say 20% the £5m would net us £1m

Transfer market has him at £2.6m value but he seems very important to Preston

Do we get a percentage of the sale? Or a percentage of the profit?

He was born in the UK but has lived in Australia for most of his life, now with his Mrs & kids. I live next door to his Dad.

time for a maths lesson folks

we are dealing in millions here

let  x= the initial transfer fee  Preston receive ( in millions as said)
let y = the brucie bonus Rovers receive
assume the sell on fee was 25%

then :-

25%(x-1.6) =y

ie   x-1.6 =4y

so x = 4y+1.6

----------------------------
if  y=1 ( meaning we only get a mere one million)   then he has been sold for a "Norfolk in Chance" 5.6 million
----------------------------
if y=2 ( meaning we get  two million) then he has been sold for 9.6 million

my money is on twelve million
-----------------------------
so using 25%(x-1.6) =y
25% of (12-1.6)
is 25% of 10.4 million - 2.6 million ( less the fee for Coleman doing the maths for the club)

Many thanks Gloster, I hadn't realised that.

Actually there is a personal resonance for me. I was born in Swansea with a Welsh mother and Yorkshire father and we moved to Donny when I was 5. When I was about 10 I was showing some promise at cricket (which came to absolutely nothing) and my Dad said - 'Tha'll ne'er play for Yorkshire - tha wusn't born 'ere'

Crestfallen I fell into a short identity crisis (maybe 5 minutes) at which point I made the lifelong emotional decision that I must be Welsh.

60 years later my tagline on here - 'The only Plaid Cymru voting, Dutch speaking Doncaster Rovers fan living in Bangor County Down .......... probably'

say hello to Titch for me JBRover. Sam’s uncle Dave (Wally) played from Bridlington when Richardson had his claws in them before he screwed the Rovers over.

Heard we've got 30% sell on. Preston appear open to getting fleeced as much as we do for their assets so wouldn't get too giddy.

Noticed Whiteman isn't in Prestons squad today.

Rumours rife that Fulham are after him.

Just one familiar reaction from their forum.

"Any competent team would get more than 5m from a premier league team, for their best player who is integral to any system, and has 18 months on his contract"

I think Fulham would be a cracking move for him.

Are sell on clauses part of the reason top flight clubs are being made to pay silly money? In this instance Preston will 2ant over and above if 30% is coming to rovers

This would be a right bonus for us, as we are currently sustainable let’s hope any money would go directly into the team (where it is badly needed) and not in the pot to keep club Doncaster ticking over.

Seem to recall he was missing from our team a few games before actually moving

Fans might moan about players being undervalued but in Whitemans case, depends what's in his contract about a release clause.

Clubs won't want to pay anymore than what they have to. Let's not forget, we turned down a number of bids for Ben before Prestons was accepted.

We’ll see. What is true though is that our recruitment has been terrible the last few years so I am cautious about how any cash would be used to dramatically transform our squad.

Fair point. Look at Everton - over 500 mill spent since Moshiri came in in 2016. Shocking

Transfermarkt says Whiteman is only worth €3M.

What the hell were the Board doing selling him to a club that wouldn't turn him into a £20M player? Bloody shite Bramhall.

There’s quite a lot of media coverage of interest from Fulham, in nationals and locals. His agent presumably or even Preston trying to drum up a deal. £5m seems more like a floor than a ceiling to me. It’s a rounding error to Fulham even if they doubled that.

I think £5 or £6m would be about right although as you say that's small fry for a Prem club .
