After our 2 loan signings today has anyone had a look at twitter?
I refuse to because I can imagine it has gone into meltdown with negative posters and the netto fc brigade?

Yeah people not happy they are loans.
Personally think it’s fine to sign loan in Jan. better than doing it in summer. This season it’s not like we’ve 7 loans all at once.
If people can’t see the only available permanent signings are going to be dregs (look at last Jan) then you can’t help them.

I can only think of Fejiri as a good permanent signing in January over recent years. Anyone else?

Josh Martin, Jacob Ramsey, Jason Lokilo, Tommy Rowe and Conor Grant were loanees when first signed.
Andy Williams was signed in the summer 2015 window.
Mitchell, Sadlier and May are good shouts for permanent signings in the January window.

To get decent permanent signings we will have to pay an undisclosed fee. If they are free then don’t bother. Level of player we bring in now allows people on Twitter to have a go. They shouldn’t have a go at young lads they should question the clubs strategy

No Steve, I don't think that's right.
The best time to recruit is in the summer, when players are out of contract.
Signing in January is often more expensive if you have to pay the wages they were due under contract to higher level clubs.
Sometimes a January loan is to have a close look at a player who is likely to be a free agent in the summer.
Many of our loans have been to get youngsters without experience in from bigger clubs, which is a bit of a lottery I reckon. We have had a few that disappeared without trace after a brief introduction.

Albie if we bring in two more experienced loans for midfield and forward I don’t have a problem.
As long as they better than what we’ve got now is the important thing for me.

In the other thread re Loans in and Out the general concensus was loans were more likely given we had a number of loan places to fill.
Of course, we would like to see permanent signings but, I don't care how they get here so long as we exit the transfer window better than going into it.
As said, there's key positions yet to be addressed and there's time yet.
Twitter/Facebook is not a good place for the more reasonable amongst us.

My major concern isn’t January - it’s what happens in the summer!

I can completely understand the concern regarding loans.
Our squad has ended up being decimated by relying on them too much in recent years, especially in the spell Darren Moore was in charge. Prominent posters on here have highlighted it, and the club itself has acknowledged it via Baldwin, I'm pretty sure that was as recently as the summer just gone.
Whilst I acknowledge that it's more difficult to make permanent signings in January than in the summer, I still think the concern is valid when, since the last window, we've lost two permanently contracted players in Tomlin and Knoyle, the latter being a key player, and have recruited three short-term loans to replace those and the other two loan players that have departed.
Recruiting in this way leaves us again with a much bigger rebuild job to do in the summer - how many times have we had to use terms like rebuild in previous seasons?!
Current contracted players for next season are...
GK: n/a
Defenders: Maxwell, Long, Faulkner
Midfielders/Wingers: Molyneux, Rowe, Taylor, Biggins, Hurst, Close, Degruchy, Kuleya
Forwards: Miller, Griffiths
That's 13 players, and only 7 of those are regulars in our starting XI at the moment.
The squad clearly needs work and it's good in some cases that contracts will expire and opportunities open up to bring in new players, but once again it's a big task to get the correct players in even across a summer window. Our recruitment needs to be up to scratch when that window comes around.

My fear is we are again in a position of stop gaps. It was very clear that we didn't want to pursue this angle yet we are in the position once again whereby we are looking likely to rebuild the whole squad yet again this summer, after doing so the last three.
I don't know how we change that but we massively lack continuity and that's concerning. We clearly financially can't go and attack the transfer window. That makes it harder for sure to keep progressing. I'd already be looking at extended contracts for players like Kyle Hurst for example but we don't appear to think that far ahead and again come next summer he'll probably move on a free again. It needs to improve.

as long as this is how we operate regularly in the main window I’m happy we sign 4 loan players every Jan when the flexibility is really helpful.
If we do that we aren’t in this short term cycle. But we also have to recognise that in the lower leagues contracts are shorter. So we will always have a higher squad turnover than prem clubs as will all L1&2 clubs.
We should look at who is out of contract before we worry about a rebuild. I’m not concerned about any of the out of contract players leaving.
We were so poor in 21/22 with a terrible Jan window that further loaded us up with nonsense on 2 year deals. It was always going to be a 2 summer window job to sort that shit show out.

May yet happen but the glaring gaps in our squad are in central midfield and back up to Miller.

Good points made. The thing is, as soon as clubs, say Gillingham at the mo, go on a spending spree, they're acquiring players but what about the contracted ones that become surplus?
The likelihood is you still have a high turnover of players so if you're not careful you end up top heavy with players you can't get rid of.and a ballooning wage bill.
For any club it's not an easy balance to get right particularly in the current times of sacking managers far too frequently in general. Hopefully, the HoF should keep an eye on the broader picture.
