Bites the dust. Frank Lampard sacked, which will not come as much of a surprise to anyone.

Is he too old to play for a mid table L2 club?
Just a thought.

Company I work for is building their new ground. Hope relegation doesn’t harm their ability to pay for it!

What a nightmare that place is going to be to get to, not that we’ll ever play there unless we get a cup draw one day

Maybe the ferry will take a short detour on match days.

Why is it that Prem League players think they can become Prem League managers without doing the hard graft in the lower leagues 1st?

I’ve more an issue with the clubs thinking they can. In fairness to ex top players they have to move while their reputation stands

it’s not that, it’s that the clubs think because they were a good prem player they think that they’ll be a good manager, if ur Lampard or Gerrard for example and ur offered a premier league job and an EFL job ur taking the prem job because u never know if ur gonna be given that chance again. U could go to a lower league club and if u fail u likely won’t get another chance, especially now with all the money at the top because owners would rather go and pay money to get someone from abroad.

I don’t think Lampard deserved to be sacked tbf, no matter who is the manager at Everton, while it’s under the current ownership u aren’t gonna do well. The 2 managers before Lampard (ancelotti and Rafa) both managers who have won the Champions league and have managed at the top level for several years have gone there and failed. The problem is higher.

the Chelsea job, he wasn’t allowed to spend any money, had to use a load of young lads who were in their first season in the prem (Mount, Tomori, James, Abraham etc) and managed to get top 4, the next season although he didn’t do great in the league he managed to win their champions league group without losing a game.

Everton is a job where the manager is set up to fail from the start, signings are constantly poor, and managers with much higher pedigree have gone their and failed.

He will probs drop down to a play off chasing championship club next I’d have thought and try build his way back up.

You could also look at his Chelsea "achievements" as taking a squad that achieved 3rd the season before he joined to 4th the following season (admittedly with no signings), then 9th in January after spending £200m+. He did blood the youngsters that you mentioned but they were clearly a talented crop given James' & Mount's achievements since.

Everton is a basket case of a club but it can also be true that Lampard did poorly there. Again, comparing where they were before he joined he took them from 17th to 17th, and has left them 2nd bottom with only 15 points from 20 games. Their squad doesn't look as bad as that so will be interesting to see whether the next manager can glean any improvement - I daresay they will, albeit possibly not enough to keep them up.

Lampard seems to be a nice bloke that the players like but doesn't appear to have much tactical acumen. If he gets another high profile job right now it will be down to his name alone.
