Done, game over.

Hubert Bates would have given Richardson a run for his money, and Mr Wilson was a great owner.
-
I do wonder if folk have read into our chequered history.
I'd have thought no eyed deer having started the thread would have at least offer his opinion?

Frank Wilson was a great bloke. One night after a game at Workington we got chatting with him on the train back to Leeds and he promised us a couple of tickets for the League Cup Final. True to his word we got 2 tickets.
Hubert Bates on the other hand..........................................

That solicitor chap from The Parade, Ian Somebody, during BB's first time around was quite good too.

Do you mean Ian Jones. Early 80’s chairman
BB, SS & Wolf were in their 70’s then weren’t they. :chair:

He was a t**t. So far up his own arse he could give himself a peck on his cheek.

Why don’t you say what you really think. Stop sitting on the fence.
Personally I think he did his best for the club. He didn’t have the money to give Billy Bremner that might have taken us up to the 2nd tier. We had a very decent team in 1983/4 and 1984/5 Two or 3 quality players added then & who knows. After Bremner left to go to Leeds it all went down hill.

LOL - these complicated surnames eh, Bob? Like "Jones". Throw us every time! ;-)

Thsnk you Camps. Yes. He was leading the Rovers on an upward path. He had a large and growing reputation with both the FA and the FL. He therefore possessed influence beyond that expected of a recently tinpot 4th division club.
A guy in the good owner camp.

I'm sensing this thread could be short-lived. BB kinda nailed it there, I feel.
-
No competition on the worst Richardson.
-
Ian Jones was Chairman when we totally undersold Brian Deane to SheffU.
-
I agree with Selby Hubert Bates, he managed to dishearten the best owner we have had IMO that being Frank Wilson.
Big Den tells a good story when he went to Harrison Sports for new studs he was charged. Guess who owned Harrison Sports.

He was very raw and I didn’t see him becoming the player he did. Hindsight eh.
-
You may not have, Campsall, but I watched him regularly for the Youth team and I was shocked what he was sold for. Tremendous potential.
-
He was a donkey playing for the Rovers. Uncoordinated, inexperienced, hopeless timing and couldn't shoot. The Rovers, as always, always, always, needed cash. When someone offers you 30 grand, in 1981valued cash, for someone who might, or might not, one day amount to something, it was, and still is, a no brainer.

I’ll agree to disagree with your assessment, Bob.
-
Fair enough SS!
I agree as things turned out Rovers could have done a lot better. But when you need cash and someone offers it for someone who looked out of his depth in the man's game, well, it's a question of priorities and the bank account.
Cheers!
