Title: Kieran Sadlier
Post by: Chris Black come back on January 27, 2023, 06:35:54 pm
Wellens has taken him on loan for the rest of the season.

That’s the kind of quality we need to be looking for!

Yeah at this level that’s a promotion signing. Sadlier always had final third quality and that wins games.

Wish this was a signing we’d made. We’ve decent depth in the attacking midfield now but the way we play would be perfect for Sadlier

That is what you call a good signing. You know exactly what you will get with Sadler.

…Except, seemingly, the correct spelling of his surname.  ;)

That’s a proper loan signing. The type that you would have thought with the wages we’ve saved this month we would have been targeting instead of a reserve team player from Burton

I put Sadlier but auto correct must have changed it. Doesn’t really matter the spelling, he isn’t our player that’s the disappointing thing.

I’m only joking Sammy. And I agree on the last point, that is a cracking signing for L2.

Well he will know the area - good luck to him

He’s the quality we should be loaning /signing. A lot of teams around us have made good loan signings or undisclosed permanent signings. While we can’t or won’t. It must be hard for Copps and DS when looking or talking to prospective signings that we can only get loans that are developing or players who are out of contract.

Our loan signings may turn out even better

Can’t be ripping it up if he’s out on loan

We're wanting to strengthen in centre midfield so you'd go out and bring Sadlier in to compete with Hurst and Rowe?

I like Sadlier as a player but for me, not the right time or place.

This is the correct analysis, with a finite budget.

Unless we do more business, I’m pretty sure that we will leave the window with a lower monthly wage bill than we left the August one with Tomlin, Clayton and Knoyle permanently off the books alongside 2 loanees, and Lavery and 4 new loanees added. I also think adding Sadlier on loan to the mix still wouldn’t change that equation.

Agree that his position is by no means a priority but Hurst has been hot and cold all season (and recently more cold than hot), and Rowe’s struggling for fitness. Sadlier could also provide competition to Molyneux on the right who has still yet to really prove he’s worth a place and could also do a better job than anyone currently in the squad as a link through the middle to Miller, which we’ve not replaced since Tomlin “retired”. Sadlier could have made a big difference for us in tight games which could be the difference between 7th and 8th place. Think it’s a great signing for Orient and a shame that he’s not coming back here.

Ability wise he isn’t a risk, but I read he’s made only nineteen appearances in last two seasons. I haven’t checked up on that, has he been fit and available and just not been picked?.

He's only started 19 league games since leaving us in August 2020 for Rotherham. He has played a lot more games though including 28 times this season across all competitions, largely from the bench.

Good player but no way we could justify his wages at this point.

If you have a budget you need a good team, not an over reliance one one or two players . The best teams have danger men throughout the team. Much easier to stop a side that has one star player.

Started today. Played 89 minutes. 0 shots on goal as a team. Lost 1-0 to Tranmere.

Orient haven't won in seven (?) games, and have scored one goal in that time.

Oh OK, clearly a terrible signing then.

Not sure how you’d reach that conclusion. It’s not his fault if the team couldn’t hit the target.

He is a very good player and I would be happy for him to come back.

Just to score the winner at Peterborough, that would be sufficient reason..

God no. Let's build a side of younger, hungry players who don't break down every 5 minutes.

Could be tactical, could be managerial choice, could be fitness but since coming back from Ireland his 98 starts are fairly closely matched by 78 appearances off the bench. Might be difficult now at 30 to convince his next move that he is a regular starter who can get through 40 plus starts a season. Nothing wrong with being an impact player.

A good side usually has a mix of younger and experienced players.
We have just retained Billy Sharp too.

We can't have a squad full of "impact" players. We need a squad that can compete with each other to be in the starting 11 every week. Billy did that and got 19 starts.  Sadlier seems to get the rose coloured glasses treatment. He'd spend more time crocked than available. Plus, I can't do with his Dad popping up on here again.

Not for me, we should be looking at better quality players, firstly those who could start ever game at L1 and have the potential to play at championship level in the future.
Our recruitment this year is going to be vital, with the numbers we need we can’t be thinking squad or impact players, otherwise we will not compete in L1, which in my opinion is going to be a very tough league.

Hanlan a similar player to Street.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Lubala came in as a squad option either.
Both released by Wycombe.

Not for me, scored 14 goals while he was with us and looks like he’s scored 12 since leaving. We’d surely find better, for cheaper in the market.

I always struggled with him. Scored a number of very good goals from distance, but didn’t think he offered enough apart from that.

Signed by McCann, did well for McCann and then struggled under managers since.
