I mentioned on another thread that I was really struggling to see anything positive about the club at the moment.
1st team squad is poor,
Results are not good enough,
Stadium is filthy and run down (despite being told a few years ago that taking the stadium maintenance in house from an Facilities Management company would be a good thing),
League position terrible,
Fan/club relationship poor and eroding quickly
Communication virtually none existent.
Food outlets, enough said
What is there that club are actually proud of at the moment?
Being sustainable is about it but that appears to be at the detriment to all the above
-
What happened to the new scoreboard we were apparently getting? It hasn't worked for 5 months.
-
Said at the end of the game today, it feels like the soul has been ripped out of the club. I can’t find any enthusiasm anywhere I look.
-
2 years now, 2 years of almost total dross served up & suffered by us supporters. No leadership on the pitch, & none off it. When will this end. I'm hoping we have just enough to win a few more & not get dragged in anywhere near the bottom 2.
If anyone would have said to me we would be looking over our shoulders at the bottom end of league 2 after the Charlton play off games I would have laughed at them. Sadly, & scarily, our club is still on the decline.
-
A positive for me is on the 14th when we have a home game I have day surgery, so won’t have to suffer that crap
-
We've gone from a penalty kick from a playoff final at Wembley into the championship to bottom half of league 2 having the double done over us by Hartlepool. In such a short space of time
But by god we have a cracking car boot.

They didn’t think we had any need for it. We are going back to the days of blokes in white coats, placing big wooden boards into the slots for home and away teams. Announcements will be made in morse code.
-
They've also given up showing replays on the big screen for some reason.

To be fair we’ve not done anything to warrent a replay

The replays are for highlights. You can't show them when there aren't any.
-
As said previously after the Colchester defeat, club is on its arse.
-
Lakin looked good. That’s all I’ve got
-
Got some steps in walking around the lake to and from the car.

I’m going to buck the trend.
For the first time ever I spent the day in the Legends Lounge to celebrate my brothers 50th. We had a super 3 course meal, with drinks, watched the game and then more drinks afterwards. We got to meet the people running that place and they are absolute credit to themselves and the club.
They feel the pain of the football. But there is so much more to this club than football. Shout out To Gaynor, John the manager and Johnathan the compere. A super atmosphere despite the on field performance. It was so clear to see when To. Got presented with the MOM award that the team are hurting with current performances.
I can highly recommend this place. Great food, great people, great atmosphere.
Graeme Lee was there too which was nice.
I will be going again.

Things have become very stale since McCann left.
Out of interest, did we ever replace the previous head of recruitment?

No, we didn't. I believe Copps is now in charge of recruitment.

how would you have felt thou if you hadn’t had a nice meal and a few beers and just gone to watch the football lol
-
It was fine under Darren Moore. Since then every decision made and how the club has been ran has been a joke. Only the manager gets sacked. Many more shouldn't be in jobs than that
-

Agree with that, should have pushed the boat out to keep Mc Cann. Its been downhill since he left.

Wasn’t Russ Wilcox head of recruitment when Ferguson was here.
When we brought decent players to the club.

We’ve got some players who look good on paper but in the grand scheme of things some are stealing a wage. I wouldn’t offer one player a new deal come the summer : We are in a position which I think we deserve to be in far too inconsistent and we can’t score or keep
Clean sheets and I don’t think schofield knows how to get a tune out of this side.
-
Your right Dan We lost to a team playing for the draw in the second half. They've got an experienced manager. We have not.
-
Two upfront worked well in patches today.
-
We should have had 3 or 4 in the second half against that defence but we did'nt get one.
-
I just hope come the summer the recruitment is spot on and we can get some togetherness and at least some sort of settled side and a spine going through the team we are far to soft and weak in some positions and competition for places is vital which we haven’t that luxury
-
Some reasons to be cheerful:
Win the game in hand and we're 2 points off the playoffs. It's early February.
I like Nelson, Brown and Maxwell at the back.
Olowu will return to the side very soon.
Mitchell is good enough.
Close looks good. Biggins can improve and get more involved.
Maybe Rowe can play midfield or even left side forward, rather than wing back or full back.
Lakin looks keen, competent and lively.
Lavery seems pretty good. Maybe give George a night off to recharge and stick Lavery up front as the main man.
Hurst and Molly must find their consistency soon. Surely.
The kit is miles better than last season.
I don't really care about pies and tannoys and club shops and dancing troupes and the manager's interviews and all that nonsense. Who gives a monkey's? If we're winning no-one mentions those things. If we're winning AND PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL those things will matter even less. Remember what Belle Vue was like? Our home is a fantastic stadium. By all means scrub it up a bit and improve services. But don't overdo the moaning about everything. "Our grounds too big for us" should be the chant. Or too good. We're lucky to have such a stadium.
Yes we've been poor for 2 years or more and it's been depressing. But there are positives.
-
:that:
That post has cheered me up a bit, well done.
-
Exactly Silkscarf!
Some people just love to be unhappy and moan at everything, even when stuffs going well they ain’t happy.
A bit of positivity towards the team might help.

I’m guilty as the next guy of being down and uninspired by this lot, but you have a point, the Everton fans yesterday put aside their issues with their board and gave their team 90 minutes of constant support, our fan base could learn a lesson from that
-
Silkscarf agree with most of that, I’m still uninspired by Close though

Well the club's community functions are genuinely strong I'd argue.
But on the field?... we can still have 11 people out on the field on a matchday?

I think we're going to need that. Whatever we think and debate about how we got here, DS and those players are all we've got right now.
I suspect things will come to a head behind the scenes sooner rather than later. There are good people at the club and many associated with it doing the best they can at the moment. They are not immune from feeling the pain and frustration too.
It's easy to feel sorry for ourselves and run away or hide for a while but, we need to dig deep and find the resolve to help those players keep us in this league first and foremost. I do actually think the players are capable and we should get behind them. Be as positive as we can to make a difference. Some might think staying away might force change but I'm not sure that's going to help at the moment.
There's alot of noise and some have been very vociferous about wanting new ownership or investment. Look at it like this, if you were trying to attract a new girlfriend after being scorned, you have to put a brave face on and look your best to stand any chance of appealing to someone new.
Stick our chests out, wear the badge with pride. We are the club, we represent the club and we're needed now, not when it's too late.
-
The club might be doing well behind the scenes but it isn’t on the pitch as we all know. You are judged on what’s happening on the pitch. Not many have any interest in what is happening at board level. If the team is performing nobody really cares whether the chairman attends the game or not. The eleven on the pitch are the main thing.
-
I'm sure all of us on this forum give our full support to the players once we are in the ground, that's a given, no matter what's said on here.
-
They should do Les but all too often I hear SOME fans berating individual players during the games.
One thing I think is funny though is when the daft lads sing “we’ve got super Danny Schofield, he knows exactly what we need, RoShaun at the back, Miller attack” etc and then within a few minutes are giving RSW loads of verbals.
-
Interesting to make reference to Everton fans, but the reality is they’d just sacked their manager and brought in a manager who they must have thought they could get behind.
Not something we did after GM!

and some are starting to get on Millers back aswell because he’s not scoring atm, even tho he’s not scoring he still puts a proper shift and his all round game is very good, his hold up play especially getting a lot better imo.
