Blunt, DS, and Copps. It was always our dread that an absolute legend like Copps would somehow be involved in the kind of sh*tshow that our club has become.
Is there the slightest shred of evidence that DS and Copps will recruit well enough in the Summer to get us promoted out of League 2? Or even out of the National League if needs be.

I feel sorry for Copps, he should’ve never had taken the role, just retired gracefully and stayed legend status

Coppa knows this league and the one above it better than anyone at our club. He is the ideal person for us in that role with his blend of work ethic, contacts, respect within the game, leadership qualities and technical and mental understandings of the modern game at these levels. But you can't ask an Olympic swimmer to get a PB swimming with armbands on.
I don't question Copps. I question the support for him to do his job to any real effect.

Ultimately results and performances will tell if copps and ds are successful, it will not happen unless the owner rethinks the way the club is run, if he had got us a decent squad before going down the sustainable route then there would not be a problem as we would have the core of a decent team, at the minute we have no players that would get in a top 6 team, a rebuild will cost money and that is the thing we don’t have
-
There have been so many poor footballing decisions over the last few years, but the one that really stands out was the decision in the midst of a horrific run of form and total collapse of confidence, and the heat of a relegation battle, to appoint McSheffrey as manager last season. Absolutely mind boggling that anyone thought that was going to remotely prove workable. Especially following what was a lengthy recruitment process. There is really no forgiving that.

Don't we rebuild every season?

totalitarian agree CBCB

Please don't bring that up. I've tried to bury that deep down. I can't even... ah

Knowing the division as a player is very different to knowing it as a technical director. It was a misguided appointment at best. At worst, it was a cynical appointment to shut the moaners up.

yes that’s the problem, if you have a partial rebuild but have a good core of players you can get anyway with having a very limited budget, each year we need a whole new team on a very limited budget at the minute

And who would you rush to give a new contract? Not Anderson on that and recent performances, a question mark at best. Olowu probably. And for me that is it. The rest can go as soon as absolute possible!

I’d only keep Olowu.

It suprises me that people who not very long ago were calling for Copps to be appointed manager still feel they have a valid opinion on the forum. But there you go.

Copps touched on getting new contracts sorted with players, well I hope it's not above 2 out of that lot. Only Olowu & Younger for me.

I can't recall anyone on here calling for Copps to be appointed manager.

Big mistake for JC to embroil himself into the disaster that has become our leadership group.
You would of thought that he would of wanted some sort of reassurance that he took the position on the proviso that he would have a workable budget, not be overruled in his decisions and to have the freedom to implement his footballing strategy without any hinderence or other restrictions.
Now i don't know if any of those things where put in place, implemented or objected to but something just does not feel right about the way the footballing side is conducting its business.
If we feels like its all going pear shaped this season i've got an awful feeling next season may well trump it, i can only see more disappointment and failure next season if we continue in the current manner.
Something needs to give.

To be really honest, I wouldn't give a fat rats bottom if none of these were given new contracts. I know that's not possible because we would have to bring a completely new team, which ain't going to happen. We need a total clear out imo
-
Only ones on the that list for me would be Mitchell & Olowu. Jury out on Anderson.
Gives us the opportunity to get rid of a lot of dead wood.
Happy to keep Jones as back up keeper if he is happy to stay as no 2
We are not going to get a better keeper than Mitchell as a league 2 side imo.
It’s our defence that’s a shambles not Mitchell.

I think new contracts will be offered to Anderson, Ravenhill and Younger, and potentially both or one of Jones and Mitchell.
Although I'm not sure if I would keep any of them.
We could try and off-load quite a few others as well if we want to free up the budget.
-
A lot of these are low earning squad players. They can go we’ll find others easily enough. Then you have your 1st team earners
Anderson
Mitchell
Agard
Williams
Olowu
Maybe Younger
Copps will have to judge wear this lot earn vs what we can get in the market. I’d imagine we can get better for the money.
Most of these were signed in L1 from clubs above us so expect they’ll be on better money than the average L2 player. They are worse than the average L2 player on performances so easy decision for me.
-
I think it best for them as well as us that where possible anyone we can lose from our defensive unit without there being a cost, we do that. We need to start again and instil an entirely different mentality. We have some talented defenders in the squad but the time is right to rebuild from scratch, especially with the central defensive options.
-
Retirement may not have been a financial option for JC.
-
Mitchell and olowu are the only ones I would offer contracts too.
Whether they would accept terms is another thing all together!
The rest I’ll be glad to see gone

He does have plenty of rental properties.

Well I can't comment on Bottomley as I've never seen him play. The rest should all be released without exception.

I don’t know how Bottomley got a contract in the first place!
