Title: Walking football
Post by: Super Colin Cramb on February 05, 2023, 11:30:42 am
The lack of movement and pace is astounding at the moment. It’s like watching walking football, and I am doing a disservice to people who play this. We are slow in our build up play and very predictable. Yesterday when we were in possession some players were just walking about, rather than find space and giving options. Hartlepool’s defenders probably could believe how easy it was. Things need to quicken up sharpish!

Your right about that, it’s was clear to see, what happened to the basics of pass and move?

I bet if they had a poll at least half the teams we've played this season would like to play us every week.

It’s not only the lack of pace and movement, we are missing any physicality. We seem to get bullied in midfield and in forward positions.

I think it's more to the tactics the managers have played rather the players themselves, I think the player under a manager that gives them freedom to express themselves would reap the rewards

I've never seen a team so terrible at throw-ins. Because of the lack of movement from anyone, the thrower takes an eternity, and then usually throws it to one of the other side.

Have you seen our corners? There cannot be many clubs with such a poor record of threatening let alone scoring from corners.

Corners, throw-ins - aren't these basic training routines?  If the team are so visibly poor at such basics doesn't it cast doubt over the coaching they are receiving?  How can anyone be surprised the team perform like they don't know what they're doing anymore if basics like this are poor?

Our throw ins are almost all identical, no movement, it’s like no one wants the ball, it ends up being thrown to the nearest player, who’s marked, that player tries to cushion it back to the throw taker, nine times out of ten it either goes out of play or is cushioned too hard and we lose possesion

Was thinking the same the other day, I bet a lot if teams love playing us, just an easy touch, in fact quite a few opposing keepers could have gone on the p-ss the night before playing us.
