Title: Dare to dream.
Post by: normal rules on February 14, 2023, 10:18:04 pm
Just focussing on rovers, If we win the game in hand over Carlisle, Just three points separate them. Carlisle are third.
I know there are other teams in the same mix, but what a diff 3 games make.

I don't want to get too carried away - but tonight was genuinely enjoyable to watch - every player out there worked their absolute bo**ocks off, and as much as they were shattered at the end, it was clearly worth it. Amazing to get these last 3 results given what we've been served up earlier in the season.

Not been to or watched any games recently.  Are we playing well and winning or just getting some luck? I hope we are playing well, as Sod always said. Play. Well and results will come. Things can change very fast In l2 and hopefully we Cary on this form for some time

Good to hear. Are the new signings having a big impact? Has Tommy Rowe playing in midfield helped us slot?

It’s great we are tightening up at the back and the play is improving. But we dont create enough chances for me which is what concerns me on making the play offs.

Even if we don’t though, next season is looking very promising.

I’d describe it as better, much better, but not fully there yet. It is coming though, and you can see the inter play starting to happen, little triangles…

There is a style, a work ethic and more cohesion. Defending from the front line - Lakin and Close are really closing defenders down fast, which is making the opposition panic.

We had a 20 minute spell today where we looked very good.  We didn't create enough at times but I thought we looked a touch tired.

Defensively quite solid though and we know solid defences are key.  The new players have added well to the squad so it's positive.

Rowe isn’t playing in midfield, he played left of the back 3 tonight and was good again, got forward a lot aswell as he always does from that position.

The performance with the ball was nowhere near Saturday. We were good again without it. Mitchell barely being exposed all game but so to was their keeper bar the goal. A lot more work to be done. Play offs is a reality I just don't see us finishing 3rd I think that's going to end up being Mansfield

The defence is now showing some solidity that has been lacking for some time . Midfield is starting to look more cohesive with moments of good interplay. It’s still up front where it needs to click .

I see positive signs that a system is being heavily worked on in training, that is showing in the games. The passing and retaining the ball is better. Players are starting to show the ability they have. Defensively they look like they know their jobs. Lakin seems to be a good find, we need to get a permanent deal agreed for him before the price goes up.

Players are seemlessly fitting into the system when changes are made. We need to develop something different than others have. We seem to be developing a bit of a backbone to the side. Olowu coming back has helped. Maxwell has some potential. Brown seems more solid at right wing back. Molyneux is looking the player that we signed at last. Three games that have set a standard that we need to keep up.

Brown’s contract is coming to an end at Blackburn. We need to be having discussions there.

In my opinion, our best hope is nicking the last play off place.
It's still very much a work in progress, and it will be a roller coaster until the end of the season.

We need to be aiming higher than 7th.  Reach 4th or 5th and we’ve hit decent form going into the play offs..

Concentrate on getting into the play off positions and then the job will be to stay there. Maybe we are hitting form at the right time. Carlisle on the other hand must be shell shocked after being third and losing 4-0 at home. That must have knocked their confidence.

Excellent right back, can defend & is effective going forward, if we have the chance to sign him we should grab the chance. Reminds a bit of Gary Neville.

Most of your questions answered above but for me much improved

Got an overdue bit of luck with the goal v Pools

Played (despite changes) a really good game v Swindon. Lots of their fans said " best team won". It was the word Team that sprang out for me. They played as though they were unchanged AND on a 6 or 7 game winning streak

I remained realistic , it wasn't world beating but it was a good all round performance and well deserved win

Then last night another win albeit with maybe a tired ish Team but again it didn't matter as we had enough and as the previous points above made , the outlook is now much more promising

Was it just me last night that was never in any fear that we would concede? All 2nd half I was very comfortable with the way we defended. Yes there were a couple of 1/2 chances and a few mistakes but overall I thought we were defensively sound. Olowu was outstanding but all the back 5 put a shift in, how Brown kept finding the energy to keep getting forward and back all night I have no idea. Close is showing consistency now and Lakin is a revelation to what went before him. The front 3 worked hard but with little end product but kept Barrows defenders busy. I feel sorry for Miller up there on his own having to try and chase his own knockdowns, we need to play to feet to him or over the top for him to chase down to be more effective. Mitchell looked very sound and confident under crosses. Overall a gutsy, scrappy win but I'll take that

Noting your point about the team possibly being tired last night, our next three games are all on Saturdays - plenty of time for training routines and fitness work, and further integration of the new players.  Yes that’s the same for opponents too, but we can only affect our own performances.

Confidence must be rocking too.
