Title: Meet the Owners continued
Post by: Balby Rover on February 15, 2023, 12:42:39 am
Hi another good performance tonight, the recent additions are really helping the cause and definitely improving. I attended the Tuesday meeting and our member Karldew wrote why my question and comments ?  this was quite early in the presentation. The question was actually before the general question and answer section when Danny was going through his presentation on tactics  and player section which was good and before he started it was stated you could ask questions. What did i say we have problems in 4 key areas attack, midfield, defence, and Goal keeping. Which did raise a smile from the Top Table. I went on to qualify this is more relevant to 5 matches or more ago. ATTACK why is George Miller on his own up front with no back up same tonight was thought Lavery brought to support him. MIDFIELD no flair since Lee Tomlin left and not replace hopefully Lakin will fill that void. DEFENCE much better last couple games since a player left out never mentioned his name but obviously RSW. DEFENCE why do we play out from the back Premier league clubs with there players can't always do it, and Darren Moore tried it at DRFC and failed. I asked Danny that direct question and he said some like it depends on the game plan. GOAL KEEPING Jonathan Mitchell needs to focus on his goal kicking more practise at the training ground. I thought these were reasonable and fairly accurate question - observations or am I mistaken and need to go to specsavers ? Danny Schofield said was there a question there well he was talking tactics and player selection. I think there were at least 3 questions we can all relate to ?.

I remember that and thought that you’d made a statement about what you believed were the areas we short in but I don’t think you asked a specific question.

But I’m sure when the club issue the video and transcription next week you’ll be able to look back at it.

We play 3-4-3 in possession, Miller has Molyneux and Hurst either side of him and Close and Lakin not far behind.

Oh. So we did have supporters offering opinions on tactics then.

Lakin has been a good find and has brought good energy to the midfield. It strikes me how high up the field he gets to press the opposition even when we don't have a natural holding midfielder in the team to cover. Biggins might struggle to get back in when he's fit if Lakin carries on.

Lavery was never brought into support miller as we were never going to play 352 regularly, we were always gonna be sticking with the 343 and lavery was gonna be a different option to miller off the bench or maybe change formation in game if need be.

Yes I agree we haven’t replaced Tomlin but tbf Tomlin would struggle to fit into the 343 as he wouldn’t be able to play in the 2 man midfield, he would probs play as one of the 10s next to miller or behind him and lavery if we went 352.

Darren Moore didn’t fail playing out from the back, early on under him we made a few mistakes but a lot of them were donervon Daniels lol. We did probs do it too much to start with but then we got better at it and we scored a lot of goals with 15-20 passes (especially in the 20/21 season). It’s the modern way of playing and most of the coaches have their teams playing out from the back, tbf tho we don’t do it all the time now, there’s a few times when Mitchell takes a goal kick straight down the middle to millers chest and we play from there (it just depends how high the opposition press us).

Mitchells kicking is getting better and tbh I didn’t think it was too bad anyway, it was more the fact that he took too long to release the ball at times although I do understand why he does it sometimes because it slows the oppositions momentum and gives us time to reset.

Yes I must admit some points made by fellow contributors and correct about DS sticking to 343. I had it in my head that Lavery was going to play off George Miller so accept that. Midfield is improving but oh for someone with Tomlin's special skills. But I never mentioned names at the meeting but defense so much more solid without RSW. Mitchell still needs help with his kicking but much improved last night thanks for the comments replies all good and valid.
