Title: Sitter
Post by: scawsby steve on February 18, 2023, 08:18:02 pm
George's sitter couldn't have been that bad. I've just watched 2 minutes of highlights from Sky, and they didn't even bother showing it.

I don’t think there was much else Miller could’ve done with it tbf, maybe took it with his left but think the defender would’ve still got in the way. Was an unbelievable match winning block as they went up the other end and got a corner which the defender who blocked the shot scored from lol.

He needs to be dropped. Offers nothing. That sitter. 2 yards out and in front of the goal and us fans

Did they show Pen shout and if they did was it ?

They didn't show it, Wolfie.

They showed their 2 goals though. Looks like we're back to dismal defending again.

I thought Maxwell could have had a shot, Lavery missed an easy chance too

Looked it from where I was standing about 15 yards away. Clear pull on his shirt.

Lavery connected well. It was unfortunate it bounced first after his shot them just over the bar. His chance was a more difficult one than Millers

His mistake was waiting for the ball to arrive at his feet instead of attacking the ball

Million pound strikers and forward miss chances they should score. When you are in a vein of scoring then becomes natural when you haven’t scored for a while you become more tense. But if we are to compete for the playoffs then all players who are in a position must start taking their chances.

These chances are just balancing out when he was over achieving early season.

In the BBC report the only sitter missed being mentioned is the one by Lavery. All strikers miss, some of them go quite a few games without scoring. Ollie McBurnie had the same problem at Blades.

Lavery Miss bounced up on him just before he connected with it. Miller should have scored, but it was a good block.

If he had connected well then it would not have bounced after he made contact on the ball. Make better contact and it fires into the back of the net.

There seems to be a consensus that if Miller gets one goal, then he will go on a goal spree.
We shall see. I certainly hope so.
But what if he gets to season end with none?

Seem to remember there were some fantasists saying before the season kicked off that he was going to be topping 20 league goals.

don’t know about others but I think he will go on a spree because even tho he’s not scored for a while he’s still getting in the positions every game to score, it’s not like other players u see who are in bad form and go completely missing all game. Once he gets a bit of luck and one goes in he will start firing again imo. Hopefully it’s next week against his old club.

He could of course still do that.
(I wasn’t one of those fantasists that you wrote about by the way).

It’s obviously possible, but he’d have to score goals now at a rate he hasn’t matched in his career I think.

Looking back on the thread we had people saying at start of season he would get 25 and others saying he was a good bet for top scorer in League Two. Fantasy.

GazLaz predicted 14 goals which feels probably about right. He would be hard pushed to not score again this season and he’s currently on 9 league goals so something at or around that is probably realistic.

Gazlaz does know quite a bit about stats, despite what some others say.

And it’s not to say he is a bad player but it is rare we have a player scoring 20+ goals in a season so people predicting this before season even started seemed triumph of optimism over reality. If he ends up with a dozen or so league goals that’s a decent return. World away from being top scorer in League Two though.

Interesting also that he has played 29 games this season in all competitions and has started them all. Only received 1 booking all season though.

Think one of the problems with Miller is that he's too right footed like when in a good scoring position he tries desperately to get the ball onto his right foot instead of hitting it with his left

He scored 9 in his first 18 games, so he started off comfortably on track to reach 20 goals, so it’s hardly fantasy.
He’s then scored 0 in 13 games so obviously a very bad run

Just checked and he is actually our joint top assister this season with Knoyle, he has 9 goals and 5 assists (3 of them have been while he’s been on this goal drought) in 29 league games so even tho he’s not scoring he’s still contributing to the team.

Another interesting stat I’ve noticed while looking at his own stats is that we’ve never lost in the league when he has scored or assisted (drew 1 against Crewe, won the other 9) so hopefully he starts firing again asap lol. In fact in the 13 games we have lost in the league this season, we have only scored in 3 of them (both games against Mansfield and Hartlepool).
