Scored the winner in the game against Hartlepool today which also got him to the 20 goal mark for the season. There will be ppl on here who have seen him more than me (only seen him a couple of times in the cup games he’s played in), will he be given a pro contract? Does he have the potential to be good enough for league 2 in the future? Obviously had a very good season with the u18s scoring a lot of goals.
-
Should he be given a deal, yes probably... Will he... No probably not.
-
He is obviously a natural scorer and players like that are at a premium.
It is becoming more and more likely that we won’t make the playoffs so after a few more matches it would make sense to give him a run of first team games to see how he gets on.
I haven’t seen him play so don’t know what his strengths are, apart from scoring goals, but if we use him properly he might prove to be a gem.
The step up from U18s to first team is a big one but the only way to see if he can hack it is to play him.

Agree with this. If the play offs are all but gone give him a run from the bench every week. And if possible maybe bring Faulkner back in to start till end of season.
Without injuries he’ll be playing alongside Olowu Anderson and Nelson rather than Williams so I’d be less worried for his confidence
-
Him and Faulkner need to be back in the squad. Goodman has been scoring all season, the manager doesn’t seem to rate the fringe strikers, he has nothing to lose by putting him on the sub bench.
-
No, Faulkner should stay on loan where he can gain experience.
-
I did get told that all but two from the 18's have been told they wont be signed.

How a club that wants to develop can’t afford a U23 side with robbing the main first team budget is beyond me. Progression is what we should be looking for. Not throwing young lads to the way side when we’ve hardly started to develop them. But when you aim for sustainable club this what happens Reduce the level of players in the first team therefore performances and results get worst, the crowds start to be turned off and incoming funds decrease. So we end up on a downward spiral on the pitch while trying to remain sustainable on the financial side.
Going back to U18 s if only 2 progress to be played in lower tier men’s football then why are we funding an Academy. The next step is not there for these young professionals

Maybe because it isn't sunstainable? :chair: :chair:

It is a bit more complicated than throwing lads in at the earliest opportunity.
Goodman did not get regular starts with Stamford on loan, and might need more time to develop at a lower level. Not all lads are prepared for the pressure of stepping up from youth level, and need a transition.
We all want these lads to progress, but loss of confidence can be a big factor if it is not done right.
I would think he is behind Kuleya in the pecking order at the moment.

Totally agree that’s U21/23 is important to have better transition to first lower league men’s football and hopefully eventually to the first team.
