Ok, so some of you may be familiar with the film money ball, based on a baseball team in America who signed less known players who cost a fraction of the price of established players on stats and challenged for the title, the same people who bought up Barnsley down the road,
Surely there is a core of players conference and below that we could nail the stats down and try pluck them up into the EFL and be able to construct a good team.
Players that have played 100+ first team games, stats that back up saves, passing, running, dribbles, shots in the box/out the box etc etc, you get the idea
Yes it would come with risk, players that haven’t maybe played as high as the EFL, but the experience we may need at a lower cost.
Just an idea on a model that has already been used

The club has to identify what the squad needs first in terms of player roles within a formation to suit that.
Even if you look at player stats, you can’t just throw 11 players together and hope for the best as we do now.
Our squad was so unbalanced at the start of this season, it was obvious after the first 6 games of watching a midfield of Clayton, Rowe and Tomlin try to keep up.
Now we wonder why trying to play like 2008 Barcelona isn’t working in league 2 in 2023.
