Title: If man utd....
Post by: adamtherover on April 02, 2023, 05:59:31 pm
With their international defenders ain't good enough to play out successfully from the back, how rediculous is DS to think league 2 defenders can? And even when time after time it's proven to be the wrong tactic, just to continue to do it....

u say it as if no other team in league 2 plays from the back. With the way football is going majority of teams play from the back, Orient top of the league playing that way and many other teams in league 1 and 2 play from the back.

That's ok Bailey, they just don't do it as badly or as slow as us.

are you defending the decision to play out from the back, even with the quality of ball playing defenders we don't have? Lol

I wouldn't mind us taking a risk playing out from the back if it paid off every now and again.

We did it when Moore was the manager and was quite effective at times.

With Schofield it just seems like we're doing it for the sake of it, with no end goal in mind.

that is how schofield wants his defenders to play and the team to play, that’s why he brought Nelson in in January. in the summer he will be bringing in other players who can play that way.

Said it several times, the season is now done and has been for a while, nothing to play for, what would be the point in him changing that style then going back to it next season. What he’s now doing is seeing what players he wants to keep and which ones he doesn’t, hence why I think Todd miller has been playing more recently.

It’s also not like we play from the back every single time as there has been times in games where Mitchell has floated one into Miller or Lavery on the halfway line or to Rowe on the left flank.

.... and he's floated a few into touch don't forget !

Not when under pressure as he seems to get it straight down middle then

We wouldn’t notice playing out from the back or some defensive errors if we created and took chances. We can’t score goals to give us a chance of winning. The slowness of our play both back and front is the problem.

a successful out ball from JM to a red and white shirt is an absolute rarity!!!

We play out from the back but don’t score any goals or even make any chances as a result of playing that way.

I think that we need to get back to a flat back four with two full backs quickly getting out wide for a throw out by the keeper - less risky when the ball is out wide.  If that’s not on, the keeper should kick the ball beyond halfway and we can then compete for the second ball.   It’s a simple game!

As my lads Sunday league manager says, if we are gonna lose the ball, let's lose it on the half way line, not the edge of the area..hence the keeper does a goalkick 100% of the time..

You don't need a team full of Messi clones to play it out from the back. Teams at every level of the game do this. Lumping it direct would offer much the same results - we lose the ball and invite pressure back on.

The players we have are just bad. We have a midtable budget that has been spent poorly on a squad of mostly poor players, half of which are out injured anyway. I'm baffled as to why people expect us to be anywhere near the playoffs in that situation.

It isn’t a binary choice of play it out from the back vs route one every time either.

Even Man City mix it up now.

A mix gives variety and unpredictability. It is the best thing for this league.

Any of us on here could set up a half decent conference side to beat Rovers. 3 hard working forwards pressing the defenders. 3 midfielders to win second balls and outnumber in the middle. Done. Process destroyed.

It's not a binary choice, but we do often try to mix it up. We went direct countless times on Saturday, we are just embarrassingly bad at it.

It all comes down to the players who give no balance to the side and are technically very poor. We can't press, can't go direct, don't have the pace to run into the channels or in behind... expecting any manager to get a tune out of this lot is like expecting a builder to build you a five bedroom house out of twigs. There were National League North quality players on the pitch Saturday. It's not going to go well!

This is spot on.
