Title: New to the forum, just my opinion....
Post by: Ryaldinhio on April 06, 2023, 11:36:38 pm
Ayup fellas,

Been following donny since the old division 3 days Richardson era. I was only a young un then but I remember the likes of Darren Moore playing, John schofield in midfield, Colin cramb etc. Then the years through the conference, John Ryan in my heart forever and we are massively indebted to the Snodins forever too, 3 players on books 24hrs before league registration and they pulled in enough favours to keep us alive.

Where we are at now is not nice at all but salvageable. I tried to take the positives from today's statement but felt a bit timed to dampen the fire of any protest and/or improve poor season ticket sales.

I personally have been critical of Bramal. Yes he has put money in over the years but who takes a club on to make money, you can't all of a sudden stop putting money in.

The statement read to me like he out a squeeze on finances to force the club to become self sufficient as possible and now that is as far as it can be he is putting some money in......hopefully. let's see, still very non-committal.

Now my thoughts on squad (this was before today's announcement);

Keeper:
Mitchell - Good shot stopper at times but a liability and distribution is shocking, however.... could we sign any better for free and low wages? I'd give a contract.

Defence:
Should have done everything to keep Knoyle.
Olowu - in every week for me.
Faulkner - is the future and he should have been in first team all year not loaned out to pub league. With low budget we should build teams around youth like this.
Maxwell - positive signing, needs work but decent young player , build around youth.

Anderson, RSW, both not for me.

Brown, seems OK, maybe take as a cheap/free signing but not a patch on knoyle.

Midfield:
Hurst - cracking young player to work on
Close - good player, maybe too good for this league and it shows when we need someone to get stuck in.
Biggins - grew into season, decent signing for this level, could he compete in league 1? Not sure.
Molyneux - disappointing season if he can reproduce last season for us he be a worthy signing.
Rowe - midfield is his place, not CB.
Lakin- liked what I saw, I'd be happy if they signed him.
Ravenhall- plays with heart, gets stuck in, I'd give him a run of games now

Forwards (never been able to judge a forward at Donny - strikers burial ground, ask Justin Jackson)
Miller - I like his work rate and he seems a nice kid but we have lowered our standards. He couldn't win a header in an u13s game or control a crowd at funeral bless him. Had a good start which has hidden the fact he would be a 5goals a yr striker.
Lavery - not seen enough of him, better in the air than his size would dictate but feeding off scraps.
Agaard - seemed to do well when called upon but not given much chance
Reo Groffiths - looked well over weight when played then gone out on loan. Signed as a world beater, as they all are.
Goodman- should play every week now, get him ready for next year.

We MUST go for youth if we are on a low budget. Blood the kids now and not 1 or 2 for 20mins. Put 4,5,6 in for full games and get em ready for first team. Half the first team are out of contract or on loan anyway so what does it matter?!

Faulkner, Maxwell
Hurst, Ravenhill,
Goodman

There's 5 young uns that are worth a first team shirt for the last games (maxwell injured but WORTH a shirt) and are contracted past the summer.

Call back Tuvonga Kuleya maybe?

Anyhow, long post, just my opinions.

Bring back Matty Caudwell and Ian Duerdan!!!

ATB

Welcome Ryaldinhio, not a bad appraisal, agree with alot of it.Regards RSW,I agree he's not for me,I quietly confident when he first joined us,but as time as gone by,he is like a dodgey Keeper, good 90% of the time but drops a clanger every so often which always seems to contribute to conceding a goal, too many errors in him.Now Tom Anderson has become an enigma to me,I was a big fan of his,and after a slow start he became a solid,no nonsense CH for us who became one of the 1st names on teamsheet for me,but for some reason, whether it be injuries,or Schofield's coaching/style he is no way the player he can be,which is surprising as at his best he is exactly what we need in league two.

Tom Anderson’s only problem is that:
A) he hasn’t got a Ben Whiteman in front of him (or anyone currently at the Club who could hold a candle to BW), and
B) he needs to be playing regularly with a constant partner, such that each knows what the other is going to do at any one time.

C) He is a head-it block-it lower league defender who is instructed to try play like Franz Beckenbauer.

Ryaldinho welcome. You say we have lowered our standards but think we can’t do better than Mitchell?!
