Never heard of that tradition I have to confess
Lots of other (year round) games etc that seem to have been consigned to history too
Whip and Top probably one of them .

We've (Parish Council) bought a Maypole for the community centre.
Teachers at local school are practising traditional dances with the kids, so they'll be dancing round the maypole for Mayday and Kings coronation.
