Title: U18 merit league
Post by: steve@dcfd on April 08, 2023, 02:23:14 pm
Top six teams from the Youth Alliance north east league play in Merit league. We drew first game 1. 1 and today we’ve won 3. 2 having been losing 2 0 good come back and that without Goodman and 1st year scholars playing.

Great comeback late in the game. That's the kind of bottle and commitment we need.

Adamson came on as a substitute in the second half and scored two and completely turned the game aided by Will Flint when he moved into mid field and our keeper making two great one on one saves to keep us in the game.

One disappointing aspect of this game was, with no first team game today the complete absence of any first team representation coaching staff, we are not two separate entities
in fact the u18s are our second team because of past decisions to do away with the u23s and should be given the same respect the first team get.
I believe that a manager of a football club should know and have rapport with every employee in his charge from the tea ladies up, and just the presence at the odd game would at least show interest and inspiration and support when the opportunity like today arrives and would not be out of place.
Or is it an example of where we have got to.
Well they missed a game changing intervention by Adamson, another steady good game from Flint defensively and when in mid field controlling the game, a good display  by the Keeper, and a team display that refused to accept thoughts of defeat right up to the final whistle.
Adopting that approach might just improve things at first team level.

We dont have a manager. We have a Director of Football who is responsible for all levels across Doncaster Rovers, or so I was told on here when he was appointed, and a 1st Team Coach who is responsible for the 1st Team. I would hope that on his days off he is looking at ways/players to make that team better.

That’s true to be fair. He might need to use a few more U18s if we get more injuries so I might want to take a look at some point.

As a long time exile it’s a very long time since I was able to get down and watch the juniors and get an idea of who the kids with potential might be. In recent times I tend only to be aware of the next likely lad when he appears on the bench. So, thanks for your ongoing feedback on here Selby.
