Title: For Attn Tyke
Post by: roversdude on April 20, 2023, 08:47:09 pm
Just reading something on FB - a newspaper article from 50 years ago.
Barnsley beat Hartlepool away 4-1 with a first half hatrick from Mick Butler who was described as an amateur striker who was a coal miner by trade
What happened to him any idea

He signed as an amateur in 1973 and played in the old Yorkshire League for Worsborough Bridge , he carried on working as an electrician at Woolley Colliery until signing professional forms a few months later after hitting the ground running .

Great goalscorer for us at that time but was the victim of thug fourth division defenders who pretty much got away with everything back then , Mick broke his leg three times .

Sold to Huddersfield in 1976 i believe and went on to play for Bournemouth and Bury .

After his football days ended he got his old job back at Woolley Colliery .

His nickname was " Superstar " from what I was told although even though I worked at Woolley I never knew him .

Tell the truth CLH,  in my opinion my club doesn't highlight our two FA cup Final appearances or even winning the FA cup anywhere near enough .

History like that should be celebrated because it won't happen again .

We should have a single star on our club badge in my opinion and you'd hardly know we'd ever won the FA cup if it was left to the club .

Not everybody has won it by any means .
