Wasn't there but just looking at the smashing characters we had back then made me smile. What a great Doncaster team.

Barton more than met his match - Mark Albrighton ex building site labourer & Big Leo Fortune West. Just a shame Keegan substituted him because he’d have got seriously filled in by some of our big hitters.

£13 to stand on a decrepit old terrace, at a friendly match ( though in this instance, not so friendly). And some chunter about prices now.

I like the fact Keegan subbed him before he got brayed and he even acknowledged this.

I was stood with some Citeh fans and at half time I asked them who that w**ker was who was spoiling a perfectly good friendly. "Oh, that's Joey Barton" they said with a resigned tone, " he's always like that, a right turd!"

He's spending his time craving attention these days. Today's nonsense he's spouting on twitter makes me think he's going the same way as Le Tissier and Cotterill. Having said that Barton has always had a few screws loose already.

Sarge had more backbone than our whole current squad.

Just completely mentally superior that squad.

Yes Sarge was 36 wasn't he Barton, absolute idiot. He should be sending thankyou cards every year to Keegan for taking him off, he'd have been smashed to bits.

Perhaps we can get them back in the summer for the 20th anniversary?

Sarge was in his late 20s I believe, although to be fair to the wannabe GB News rentagob Albrighton had the look of someone much older. We had a team full of them back then, Andy Warrington who went grey in his 20s, Steve Foster who looked like a 40 year old who'd always be happy to lend you a fag at the pub, John Doolan, and so on.

Barton's recollection of that day is way off, unsurprisingly. And the irony of him calling Leo a big dope - probably one of the gentlest and most intelligent former players I've ever had a chat with. He'd do a lot better on Question Time than Joey Barton did, put it that way.

Aaah Joey Barton. Misogynistic & a wife beater, who is also in denial about the fact that his brother is a murderer. What a lovely role model he is. A credit to football !
No wonder the game is in danger of going down the pan when people such as him are allowed to manage clubs.

Exactly,he starts off with "We was fighting for our existance" and "I don't do friendlies,I play everything to win even FIFA with the kids,I cannot let them win!" and then towards the end he bemoans the fact that our older, wiser experienced players was giving it to him when he just a 20 year old in a friendly? Contradicting Cock!
