Todays team
COYR

Correct team selection.
-
Interesting, wonder if it’s a 4-2-3-1 with Sotona, Roberts and Molyneux all starting.
-
Very sensible obvious choice Wood in for Anderson otherwise same again
i have gone on elsewhere about the ridiculous (in my world) odds for this match sly sports now have County odds on
mind you as always they have screwge odds on Rovers
-
Why no Nixon at RB, surely Bailey better in midfield?
-
Bailey was superb at RB v Hull. He’s no slouch either
-
Quite happy with that, especially the front 3 plus Moly.
Bench a bit thin though.
-
Not sure I agree with the bench being thin..
-
No Taylor again. No sign of Hurst either?
-
Or Close and Westbrooke?
-
Big squad, we can afford to give players a rest especially if they’re not 100%
-
Or Sterry
-
Some things don't change, 5 minutes to go and no ifollow, can't be bothered to broadcast until they have to, and then maybe 5 minutes into the game.
-
Big squad, we can afford to give players a rest especially if they’re not 100%
It would be nice if Richard Wood could score today
yes this season we actually have a big squad - ironically i remember someone saying we had a big squad last season
I was just thinking in an unlikely emergency Ironside could play centre half ?
i have laid County to a lot of money today so will be right pi$$ed off if we lose this
-
Pitch looks good

I don't get your logic about the bench, Baz.
-
4 | Rovers find the first half chance of the game as Luke Molyneux drills a dangerous ball towards the goal mouth from the left but the hosts' defence clears.

1-0
-
oh dear !!
radio sheffield said the scorer appeared to foul Oluwu but said play on so can't do anything about that
-
1 down
-
Foul before the goal, cheating ref.
-
6 | Goal Newport
8'⏱️ | More on the goal, Seb Palmer-Houlden looks to have fouled Joe Olowu but the referee waves play on and the striker dispatches into the bottom right corner.
1-0
COYR
-
Dreadful from Olowu.
-
Newport look quite a physical side. Hope we can match them.

I had this today and v Hull. I contacted them. It seems there is a ‘use existing payment’ option as well as the ‘credit/debit card’ that it defaults to. Tick the right option and hey presto you’re in. I told them they need to fix it as I never noticed it and I can’t be the only one.
-
Olowu terrified of conceding another pen, he was weak there, then slipped.
-
Bottom of the division for now.
-
Not a foul, just poor defending from Olowu.
-
GM said the other day that he wouldn't be long in making changes if the players aren't doing it in the first half.
-
Could easily have been 2-0 there. Need to get a grip.
-
2-0
-
14'⏱️ | Rovers are nearly caught out on the counter as Scot Bennett latches onto a loose ball in midfield and plays to Palmer-Houlden but the shot is dragged wide.
Deji Sotona then puts an effort of his own wide from range at the other end.
1-0
COYR
-
2-0 Some very poor defending

Ffs 2-0

It’s been ok for me spud. Listening on my phone. I sometimes struggle to get it on the computer like.
Although I’m getting it 3 minutes late!
-
Bollox.
-
16'⏱️ | More on the goal, the ball is fired at Lawlor from the right, the initial shot is saved but Will Evans was on hand to turn home from a matter of yards out.
2-0
COYR
-
Bloody hell going from Hull to this.
-
Absolutely terrible at the back.

-
Really on the ropes here
-
Game over? Seems a bit early but this is a big hole to dig themselves out of.
-
Foul before the goal, cheating ref.
Tell me, how can you accuse a ref of cheating just because, in your opinion he makes a bad decision? Give me strength.
-
Need to sort it out and quick
-
Biggins poor - he’s slow and sleepy here today.
-
3-0 definitely game over
-
3 nil
-
22 | 3-0
23'⏱️ | More on the goal, the hosts work the ball in from the left, a shot is fired towards goal and bounces between players to nestle into the back of the Rovers net.
COYR
-
3-0 Defence totally at sea
-
Wtf?
-
Wow. Just wow. Its gonna be another long season at this rate.
-
I want my £2:50 back!
-
Olowu slipped, it wasn’t a foul but he should have put the ball out for a corner. Midfield is non existent and the defence (see the previous 2 seasons) have zero outlet
-
Where are we losing it?
-
Down to earth with a huge bump….
-
Were even scoring for them now , Comedy Gold.

-
Where are we losing it?
And why so badly?
-
Where are we losing it?
Everywhere
-
Where are we losing it?
2nd best all over. Newport working harder and moving the ball quicker.
-
26'⏱️ | A good chance for Rovers as Luke Molyneux cuts inside to cross towards the back post and Joe Olowu who puts the ball back into the danger area but he's offside.
3-0
COYR
-
Biggins poor - he’s slow and sleepy here today.
I was just wondering whether our midfield were offering any resistance. Knife through butter it seems.
-
3-0 we’ve been horendous
-
We are simply awful at the back.
-
Newport more aggressive and enthusiastic all over the pitch.
-
Newport pressing really well but we are suspect and look vulnerable trying to play short passes out from the back.
-
30'⏱️ | First changes for Rovers...
OFF: James Maxwell and Owen Bailey
ON: Joe Ironside and Tom Anderson.
3-0
COYR
-
Maxwell off for Anderson. Bailey off, Ironside on
-
3 at the back!!!
-
And the memories of the last few seasons come flooding back.
Big thing now is can we get back into it make it 3-2 or better rather than out out with a whimper. That will show good progress from last season.
-
Mcann has his work cut out .
-
Anderson booked after 2 mins on the pitch
-
Let's forget about the cup. Yes, it'll make us a bit of money, but we beat Hull because they allowed us to play football. In the rough and tumble of League 2, we're obviously still not equipped.
We've been outplayed by 2 mediocre bottom tier sides.
Not looking good. I don't know how we're going to get out of this.
-
Where are we losing it?
And why so badly?
-
34'⏱️ | Another good chance for Rovers, Luke Molyneux puts a corner into the mixer and it's headed at goal but the keeper holds.
3-0
COYR
-
Poor Joe is having a mare.
Slipped for the first, played on the 2nd and looked like og for the 3rd.
We've been awful.
-
It really is the hope that kills you. This isnt even a performance. I don't know what it is. Almost like the players think its an easy win after Tuesday.
-
Could very easily have been 4 there
-
36'⏱️ | Newport come close again on the counter as a cross meets Bryn Morris but his volley rolls wide.
3-0
COYR
-
And people say joe will be a championship player not on this viewing he wont
-
Think Joe is lucky to have stayed on. He looks a bag of nerves. Misplacing passes over and over
-
Yep joe is having a bit of a shocker today. They are doing to us was Harrogate did, and what we did to SW & HC
-
Not a chance Olowu will play a much higher level. Has absolutely no composure. Hes lucky he has pace and physicality on his side because technically hes the worst at the club.
-
Think Joe is lucky to have stayed on. He looks a bag of nerves. Misplacing passes over and over
One of the worst performances ive seen from a centre half in a very long time.
-
43'⏱️ | Another chance for Rovers as a short corner routine is worked to Deji Sotona who cuts inside and fires from the edge of the box, but it's well over.
3-0
COYR
-
Joe's always reminded me of Joe Wright. Bags of potential and technical skills, but a disastrous mistake always just around the corner.
I don't know if it's lack of concentration or a lack of composure.
-
Anyone who didn't see this last Saturday really wasn't watching the game. We didnt have the guile, self-confidence or physique to deal with them getting in our faces. Same problem we've had for 30 months. It was so obvious last Saturday. I'm not watching this but it sounds like the same basic problem.
80% of sides at this level rely on athletically getting in your face. If you can't cope with that, you are easy to overwhelm.
-
We were lucky not to concede again there - dangerous cross in front of goal goes past 2 of our defenders.
-
Just hold this score until half-time and we might, just might, get something in the second half if G.M. lays it on a bit thick!
-

Careful. I said exactly that last week and had a pile on screaming that I knew f**k all about football.
-
He’s had a bad game, happens to lot better players than him.
He was outstanding in midweek.
-
We must have had a 20 minute spell where we couldn’t get past their forward line. I’d be surprised if they keep this intense pressure up.
-
Fortunately for us Omar Bogle cannot play for them he’s out injured.
-
He’s had a bad game, happens to lot better players than him.
He was outstanding in midweek.
Stop making excuses Dickos. We're 3 nil down at half time to a club that's skint and a team that'll probably finish in the bottom third of this division.
Our lot need the riot act reading to them.
-
Half time 3-0 probably not the best half we’ll see this season (hopefully) I feel that if the score doesn’t change then the doom mongers on this forum will be out in force later, or right now to be honest
COYR
-
He’s had a bad game, happens to lot better players than him.
He was outstanding in midweek.
It's happened to him on a fairly regular basis for two years. That's the point. No one questions his abilities. But you have to view the whole player, not just dismiss the mistakes.
-
Rovers players running off the pitch at HT under instruction. GM must be fuming
-
To get past the payment issue on ifollow you need to remove duplicates of your cards on your account that it adds every time for some reason.
Then when you’re left with your card details just once, pay by clicking on “choose existing payment method”
-
Neither centre half has been great, really not sure about Richard Wood, he doesn't fit the team for me.
-
That half was as bad as we saw all last season, Biggins has looked like he’s never kicked a ball in his life
-
Just not good enough in the first half, they should be playing for their wages in the second, they are not worth paying as professionals if they turn up and do this, and that includes the management. The second half has to see Rovers start to perform with some speed and aggression, keep the ball and score at least one without conceding more. It is very doubtful that they will come away from this match with anything but shame, Something needs drastically changing.
-
We must have had a 20 minute spell where we couldn’t get past their forward line. I’d be surprised if they keep this intense pressure up.
They don't need to keep it up they have the 3 goals they need, they won't have to run around like crazy they can sit back and block everything we come up with.
We will be lucky if we score 2
-
Said last week that the team performance against Harrogate looked very similar to the stuff that was served up last season, at least pre-Salford when the wheels well and truly fell off.
The performance against Hull was great, but a completely different dynamic to any game we'll play in L2.
Sounds like we're just picking up from where we left off. Worryingly we still don't seem to have the attributes to out-compete L2 sides.
-
Wood looks terrible. Runs like a railway sleeper
-
Before he signed the West Brom lad, his priority should have been an absolute sh1thouse in midfield. We’re such a soft touch!
-
Bloody hell, could’ve been 6 down at HT. Agree with those saying a bit of the same as recent years with our back line being exposed by a lightweight midfield and it not sticking up top.
Interested to see how we come out in the second half.
-
Their commentators got it right when one asked the other " not sure what system Rovers are Play " the reply was " six's and seven's ".
-
Before he signed the West Brom lad, his priority should have been an absolute sh1thouse in midfield. We’re such a soft touch!
Owen Bailey.
-
4-0 Getting very embarrassing now.
-
49' ⏱️ | Goal Newport.
Will Evans is afforded too much time and space on the edge of the box and he finds the bottom left corner for his second of the game.
4-0
COYR
-
Well this feels familiar
-
Mitchell would have saved that.
-
4-0 because we dont know how to take a throw in.
Or defend one.
Shameful.

Five four........... we're going to win five four...

Bottom of the football league

53' ⏱️ | Further changes for Rovers...
OFF: Luke Molyneux and George Miller
ON: Tommy Rowe and Mo Faal.
4-0
COYR
-
Faal on for Miller
-
Mitchell would have saved that.
So? Are you seriously attaching any blame to Lawlor for this sh*tshow?
-
4-0
-
Stop the rot and get ready for Tuesday we need a defensive midfielder but until that happens play Bailey they’re not right back. I know he’s off now but should have started there. Biggins has never been a tackler in midfield Broadbent is not either.
Right this down to experience but must learn from it.
-
Don't suppose there's any Holywood stars interested in investing?
Still, we're only bottom - only one way to travel from there!
-
Don't suppose there's any Holywood stars interested in investing?

It wouldn’t matter. Darren Moore left and put a curse on us it would seem.
-
We have to give Grant time, and I did think half a season before we really gel, but I’m worried - this is looking so bad, devoid of anything.
The fact the score is flattering us is scary, these are another team tipped to be lower half.
-
Well you have to hope Faal is red hot, don't you?
-
for the last 2 years I have said Mansfield wouldn't get promoted because of a small squad -- however they have made some very good signings and they will be very serious contenders this time
- so next Tuesday isn't something to look forward to
could say trouble at mill (but not at Field Mill) :crying: :crying: :crying:

No Steve, don't be a silly sausage. I only said Mitchell would have saved that. Don't read more into my post than that silly x

60'⏱️ | Another chance for Rovers as Tyler Roberts gets down the right wing and swings in towards the centre but Tommy Rowe's header just can't be steered in.
4-0

I wonder if this will affect the home attendance on Tuesday?
We're certainly back to a feeling of gloom around the club.

This has to be Rovers 'line in the sand' game.
Better that McCann is made fully aware of the teams' deficiencies early on when he has the opportunity to do something about it.
Compare this seasons' start to last season - 14 points in 6 games against well fancied teams which gave management a false impression of the teams ability.
Painful as it is now, esp to the poor souls who have travelled to Newport, today's performance may be a blessing in disguise.
-
1965-66 - early in the season visit to Newport, Laurie Sheffield up against his old club .... and we lost 0-4
We went on to be champions that season
Just saying

Totally agree with that, Branton, but what on Earth can GM do when, as has been pointed out, the whole team just can't cope with League 2 in your face type of football.
We're just not physical enough.

How are Ironside and Faal looking today? I’d save Miller for his pressing against teams who like to play out from the back.
-
Deji got a card for rightly pointing out how many cards the ref has handed to us for barely much, and he had no intention of booking their player for a very cynical foul…
It’s not been our day at all, not to say we are unlucky here, we’ve been battered, we have no answers to anything, it’s hard to pin point the reason, I still think we are a bit light in midfield, and without our (what I thought would be ) first choice right and left back, not sure why we are not playing them.
I don’t remember broadbents name mentioned all game, Bailey is ok, but needs to be in his position.
Just frustrating, you poor sods who travelled I hope you get a free ticket to another game.

FULL TIME | Goals from Seb Palmer-Houlden, Will Evans and a Richard Wood own goal sees the hosts take the points at Rodney Parade.

And being bottom of the EFL after the grand total of two games - seriously?
Anyway, I don’t wish to engage in a debate with you SS.
Long-standing supporters like you will hopefully see the bigger picture once the disappointment of today is behind us.

A really bad day at the office. Where do we go from here? Very tough test to follow next Tuesday against a really strong Mansfield Town
-
Our only hope is that because we're so crap at the moment, the Mansfield players think they've only got to turn up, and come unstuck.
-
It's been truly depressing supporting this club for the past few years.
Today is extremely deflating, and I don't hold much hope for the next few fixtures based on what's happened so far.
I still think McCann's the man and we'll improve in time, but getting hammered by one of the supposed worst teams in the fourth division is utterly demoralising.
