I know there is a bit of nostalgia with Tommy but I can't get my head around why he is still first choice. It felt last season that he was shoe horned in any position just so he was on the pitch including CB!
Been watching him closely this season and his input is very poor. Work rate is shocking which can be forgiven with age and experience meaning being in the right place at the right time but his positioning is terrible. Generally wanders around midfield in the least effective position, doesn't want the ball and just tries to constantly niggle and foul opposition. Half the time he isn't even facing the ball whilst trying to hold people at set pieces and throw ins etc. Very frustrating.
Partly at fault for goals in each of the last 3 games IMO.
The second goal against Mansfield as an example he made zero effort to block the cross and he was yards away from the man, watch the replay back. McCann and Cliffe should have been tearing a lump off him for that but instead were giving him high fives after full time whistle?!
Maybe playing as we are short of resources due to injuries but I hope they are pulling him about effort and looking in the transfer/loan market for something else in midfield.

By the way, not singling him out based on yesterday as that was poor from everyone. Been watching him closely for a few week and expect more from him....maybe that's the issue? Maybe should lower expectations!!
-
Time has caught up with him and his legs have gone. At times yesterday he looked as though he was running in a muddy field.
-
I think if he was available on a free from another club like Sharp, he would of been in the “doesn’t fit into my style” column.
-
Been a great servant to the club, particularly first time round, but unfortunately looks to have shot it as Brian Clough used to say.. non existent again yesterday in our midfield.
-
Love Tommy, you could always rely on his commitment geeing up the rest of the team, unfortunately I have to agree - either his hearts not in it (did GM off load him last time I can’t remember) or his legs have gone, certainty not a twice a week 90 minute player, however we are limited with choice currently
-
Turned to my wife yesterday & said Tommy Rowe is quiet, her reply, 'Didn't know he was playing'.
-
I don't disagree with the points, but I do think he'll come good. I feel he needs to be on the bench for a little while though and use him as an impact player a little more.
-
He was all about strength and running with the ball. As he ages that’s going and he’s never been great on the ball or a technical player so we’re not getting that Copps style gaining yards in his head.
Agree with BFYP his role now should be impact from the bench against tired legs.
-
He’s does try he just can’t move anymore. Not his fault.
-
He can make things happen around the box as proved with the shot he got away for our 2nd against Mansfield.
I would have him as an off the bench option for the forward left position. He will be more effective than Taylor, even when he is fit.
-
Unfortunately it looks like Farther time has caught up with Tommy. In fact Time not only caught up with him ‘he’ dispossessed him three times on Saturday.
-
Rowe has always had a great shot on him, is decent in the air, and has a knack of ghosting into goalscoring positions.
He might not have the legs to play the number 8 position any more but like a few others have said, there must be a way to utilise him higher up the pitch and get some goals out of him, even if it's as an impact sub.
-
Would agree with the above. If we had a fully fit squad, I doubt he'd be a starter but if you're looking for someone from the bench who you can trust to do a job in multiple positions, then Tommy would be ideal for that. .
He's always been a player who plays in bursts anyway, apart from when he's been called upon to play wing back/left back/centre half.
He's certainly more effective in and around the box but not much else in end to end high energy football.
