One step forward two steps back it’s the DRFC way !!

A level for stating the obvious here but it's much about who it is tbh; could be Goodman, Sotona , Roberts so if so not a huge issue for me. Close back helps too in any event.
-
Neither are going to solve our midfield issues but in a game or two we are going to have both Close and Rowe vying for starting berths. Close hopefully gets some time on Saturday maybe and Tommy back shortly refreshed after his ban. That at least a gives us options and Tommy has been settling in to that new role as almost #10 at tip of midfield.
-
Tommy can play in EFL Trophy on Tuesday but then continues his ban against Gillingham

Bit harsh from McCann saying "Close ain't good enough. Close ain't going to get you results."
-
Joke, by the way, before anyone starts...
-
Unfortunately Billy your joke could be right. Next few games will show if Close can improve the midfield and stay fit.
-
Our physio is very unfit ! It is surprising to see him marked down as part of the coaching staff on the official website !

So. What does McCann know, eh?
-
Lawlor - ?
Sterry - 2 months?
Woods - about ready to come back?
Senior -?
Maxwell - ?
Taylor - n/a
Miller - 2 months?
Probably missed some one but that’s a hefty injury list.
-
There's a bit tagged onto McCanns interview, when he talks more about injuries. Fast forward to 11mins 5 secs
https://youtu.be/DAFHRkimTss?si=C9lO3hfz1aChvd74
Maxwell might need an operation.
-
Senior and Hurst will be ok for next week.
Might have to go back 4 if Maxwell is out.
-
The injuries are certainly testing GM’s tactical nouse with the players available to him but with all due respect, that’s what he’s paid for & like Schofield & McSheffrey before him, will be how he’s judged as a manager of a Lg 2 outfit.

Statistically, I have no idea how we compare to other clubs with injuries but these days, players are sidelined with just minor knocks. Ones that in the past, players would play on with and treat it as an occupational hazard. I guess there's more thought about player welfare particularly thinking about life beyond football in their later years.
It seems the bigger the match day squads, the increase in the number of subs results in more players taking time out with 'injuries'.
I heard McCann remark about Senior? feeling his groin. That's just bloody normal isn't it??
I get the feeling Taylor is building up to a medical compensation case and doubt we'll see him play again before he 'retires' having seen his contract out. His case maybe an exception but it does make you wonder about the culture in pro football now where players don't have to push themselves to play as they are comfortable sat on their contracts.
I don't know what the answer is but maybe we as a club are no different to any other.
-
DBR, I don't think for one minute Taylor is sat on his contract, I would imagine the lad is absolutely devastated about what he has had to go through, just one thing after another and working so hard on more than one occasion to get fit enough to play only to break down again.
He is a relatively young man with years of uncertainty in front of him, I am just as frustrated as you that we have had more than our share of injuries, and yes some could swing the lead, but very very few, and players like taylor who have potential career ending injuries or illness don't deserve criticism.

I did say his case was an exception.
-
Think that is unfair on Taylor, he was absolutely buzzing to be back, unfortunately something went again. After the injuries he’s had there will be a mental barrier to overcome as well as physical. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have to retire but don’t think for a minute he’s seeing his contract out

Hmm..."Pushing yourself to play".
My uncle was a pro in the 70s. He was renown for his bravery. f**ked both knees but was pumped full of cortisone injections by the medical staff and sent out Saturday after Saturday.
He was invalided out at 28 and hobbled along with a walking stick for the rest of his life and drank himself into the grave before he hit 60.
Certainly makes you wonder about THAT culture.

That's the point I'm making. We can't be bemoaning the constant injuries when it's part and parcel of the game where players welfare comes first.

Lawlor felt groin ? Could be back this week
Wood muscle problem?Could be back this week
Long dislocated shoulder?
Senior? Could be back this week
Sterry 2 months
Maxwell operation Knee 3 months
Hurst leg muscle could be back this week
Taylor ??
Miller 2 months
At least 7 of those would be in the match day squad regularly
-
I suspect John Taylor will announcing his retirement sometime this season, injures have ruined his latter career
-
Let's not forget the game is faster, more physical, more games etc. The strain on the body will be much higher. Just look at even the Dave Penney days, the players physically and technically at league 2 level now are far better than they were back then by some margin.

According to McCann Richard Wood has “never had a muscular injury in his career” and now he gets one after a few months at Rovers in a 20 year playing career… coincidence? Age?
That’s why Rotherham let him go , he was getting older and less fit and injuries take over . Short sighted signings like Woods leave no room for potential. They’re taking the place of prospects that could have been signed from lower league clubs . The defence in team is what you build your foundation on . Over the past few seasons we’ve ignored depth in the amount of players required for season over all . McCann on his budget is spending his costs too thinly .. hens why we’ve have 13 injured !!

He was 27 when we signed him. He'd played 119 games for Rotherham in 3 years. He played 44 matches the season before we signed him. He played 35 matches in his first season with us (the COVID-shortened season).
There's some absolute nonsense talked about him having been a liability. He got a horrific impact injury going all in on trying to score when one or two notable others were pulling out of challenges and jumping ship.
He was never an injury liability before that moment. He was a top end L1, lower end Championship player who played 80-90% of matches in a season. Since then, the lad has been spectacularly unlucky.
-
27 when we signed him? I assume you're not talking about Woods :-]]

Taylor turned 27 a few weeks before we signed him.

This latest one with Taylor must be the most crushing for him. He looked like the old Taylor against Harrogate Town, or at least he looked like a robust and fit player. Then immediately after injured again and no timeline for return. If he had limped off after 20 minutes then ok, but he looked absolutely robust. Sad for him. Probably mentally very tough.

I thought the 26/27 year old Taylor turned a contract down at Rotherham. He certainly wasn’t injury prone when we signed him

BST, ncrover and in the box are talking about Richard Wood.
I think you are getting confused by talking about Jon Taylor but quoting posts about Wood.

Doh.
That'll teach me to post while I'm.having a shite in a coffee break in a meeting. I thought this was about Taylor. Apologies.

It’s a real pity that Miller had to have another operation on the same knee. It would have been interesting to see Ironside and him in the 352 system. Faal and Marsh still have a lot to learn. Millers done that and was leading scorer last season. We can only hope when he does come back he can recapture his best bits.

No wonder we're getting injuries left right and centre.
