Title: Brand
Post by: SydneyRover on September 19, 2023, 01:04:22 am
from an article in the Guardian: ''How Russell Brand maintains his income and influence''

''Although Brand often begins his YouTube videos by addressing his “6.5 million awakened wonders” who subscribe to his channel, the audience for his individual videos tends to be between 500,000 and 1 million viewers. That is a healthy number for him, by any measure, but far from making him one of the biggest names on YouTube''

''True believers can sign up to be one of his “awakened wonders” for a minimum of $60 (£48) a year to receive exclusive content, guided meditations and go on walks with Brand''

ok, so it may be only around a quid a week each but why are so many willing to sign up to Brand and the others we hear about when the real trick is syphoning money from the base of the pyramid to the top (if you could call it the top) Brand reportedly earns himself around ₤1m/year.

The world has plenty of idiots, you should know that by looking at some posts on this forum. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had a few subscribers on here.

3 stages of his career

https://youtu.be/rI_xlbbR8aE?si=FWgK0zmpGD9_oEZa.  - this shows his vile behaviour at the time

https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/may/04/russell-brand-endorsed-labour-tories-should-be-worried

https://youtu.be/wQ-kbLi_dbA?si=R2mvF6Y6sVIbHdhK

The defence from him is delusional, offensive to the alleged victims and typically self-aggrandising. He is not influential whatsoever and the investigation started in 2019 before his new style of conspiratorial takes began.

Apparently, investigations into Brand's behaviour have been going on for years. It makes you wonder if his conspiracy theories came out simultaneously so as to convince the public that he was merely a victim of conspiracy, and therefore innocent of the accusations.

Interesting thought BB, but I think he’s just got a god complex.

Had this come out in 2015 when he was popular with the left rather than the right (as he is now) he’d have just said it was a media and establishment plot to stop his “revolution”.

When the news first came out I was shocked to learn about Russell Brand.

I had no idea he was a comedian.

Awful man. Always has been.

Egotistical, narcissistic, gobshite bully.

Let the law take its course now, but it's very important to recognise how difficult it is for women to call out this sort of behaviour from men with personalities the size of planets.

I had no idea he was a comedian.

they should not have named him simply called him "Brand X* "  just like the old nappy washing powder advert

Never mind mesays its finally all come out in the wash

* Forum: Whatever happened to Brand X? - New Scientist
Web3 Aug 1991 · grey, Brand X nappy would be compared unfavourably with the dazzling white nappy of the baby next door – through childhood (school shirts and blouses, cricket whites) into adult life...

Never liked him, but he has a point.

Go against the main stream media, encourage people to think for themselves, go against the prevailing agenda, and if your hugely popular, they'll come for you.

Joe Rogan walks the line sometimes, but he is very clever in not really crossing it, he's hugely popular too.

Are there types of "celebrity influencers" really that relevant for this mass feeding frenzy?

Let the relevant authorities do their job and get to the crux of the matter.

Complete none entities like this fella add next to nothing to what's really required in this day and age.

It's a line of defence that he knows will get a load of people who claim not to be sheep following every word he says and defending his honour.

I know a few people in the comedy industry and his behaviour has been fairly common knowledge in those circles for at least a couple of years.

we had GB news on the other night and Smogg said how horrible he was in 2010 when they were both on the same tv programme.   "Brand X" had two make up artists - one of whom's sole job was to comb the hairs on his chest

( I wonder if they did an audit of his chest hairs post show and if any were missing sue the TV company for damages)

Brand may have acted illegally in the past. It does appear he had some behavioural issues, partially drug fuelled, that are distasteful. He does have a fervant anti establishment narrative,

Putting all these things to the side, including his obvious personal beef, I just watched one of his latest vids and I think, with solid evidence, he pretty much nails an important issue of this time about establishments, eg the UK government and the BBC, increasing authoritarian control.

I can’t stand the bloke, but if I was a pretty female and he had approached me I would have told him in no uncertain terms where to get off!
He has always presented as a ‘Backside’ and anybody daft enough to associate with him knew which way things were going to go! I was chatting to a security chap who was working in a hotel where One Direction were staying, all 5 had a queue of pretty girls patiently waiting outside their Bedrooms, disappearing into said bedrooms and emerging a ‘bit bedraggled! After 20 minutes!

He's recognised that he can create his own "Media" outlet and that there are millions of people who have been conditioned to disbelieve everything in an era when the facts are not the key point of the news, but I Stead it's clicks, likes and shares (and the revenues these generate)

You'd think he'd have realised his skeletons wouldn't stay in their injunction locked closet, wouldn't you.

Maybe some truth in that, on occasions, though generalising with such confidence, maybe you can give examples? What are you seeing as untruths in his post linked to above?

And beyond this, are you suggestig that mainstream media deals in truths in both their content and what they exclude?
