Luke Williams Notts County manager explaining that more shots and goals result from short corners than direct ones.
I think we’ve looked more dangerous this season with our short corners and set pieces.
-
Take 2 of these
-
You should play to your strengths 10 years ago we had two giants at centre half and scored loads of goals from set pieces.

I spent a whole season betting on Matt Mills to score either the first or last goal for the Rovers in home games, he didn’t score all effing season at home, that was a waste of my hard earned cash!

I agree and we have tried some interesting routines.
They don’t always come off but we do get more shots on goal.
There is no point in putting balls into the box and hoping someone get a header on goal.

The thing is short corners always look worse when they don't come off. You automatically think that if we'd just lumped it into the mixer, we'd have a better chance of creating something, but the game largely doesn't work like that anymore. Maybe it never did!
-
Afraid our idea of a short corner often means not getting the ball past the first defender.
-
How come we concede from long corners then? I bet we were not included in that survey.
-
I prefer the short corners to the ones where Molly puts it straight out for a thrown in on the opposite side
 :headbang:

We had a bit of joy with them earlier in the season but teams are wise to them now. Need to mix it up a bit
-
He clearly knows his stuff and speaks very well.
The bit I particularly liked was about how his teams get the ball back in play as quickly as possible. He said they get the ball back in play from corners in an average of 7 seconds (vs 60 seconds for most teams), and they do the same with free kicks and throws. The idea being to give the opposition as little rest as possible. It sounds like something to me that fits with McCann's preferred style, and I'm hopeful he is working towards something similar in his development of this club, although I think he'll need another window or two to get us playing exactly how he wants.

All this talk of short corners is missing another point made in that interview and that they get the ball back into play quickly, whether that’s from a throw in, corner or free kick. Not giving the opposition players a time for a rest or get sorted out, pick up their man etc. this is something that the Rovers should be looking to do in my opinion. We can at times be laboured in getting the play underway again after a stoppage.

Another 2 goals from corners yesterday (1 of which being a short corner routine) and could’ve been a 3rd with Faal hitting the post after another short corner.
Whoever it is doing the set piece coaching they are doing a great job.

Yes but where’ve they been all season!

pretty sure we’re now into double figures for goals scored from corners.

I love us mixing up corner routines.
They’re like a box o’ chocolates.
-
We’ve been good of late from corners but the attempted “special play” corner at Mansfield was hilarious. Completely messed it up!
-
Having a new striker who is hard working and tall should help in this regard also. Interesting to see if he starts against Harrogate.

Off to Swansea. Well done to him.

What does 2 arms in the air from the kicker mean? Anything or nothing?
Often it seems to mean ‘I’m just going to stick this one over in the air, round about the penalty spot for the big lads’. But sometimes it doesn’t mean this and some other attempted cunning plan ensues (and probably fails). I guess the intention is to cause confusion in the defence.

First quarter of season 2 arms in air from Moly meant 'I'm putting it out for a throw in on opposite side lads'
I love being a spectator with the "what I would have done" opinion , like it's a Sunday morning on town moors
