I suppose the big question is about our own side, which one will turn up, the S**T or Sugar. From reports the team have had a rollicking from the manager who must now realise that some of our regular players making the same mistakes time after time at regular intervals are not as good as he or we in many cases think they are.
We rarely win games on the bounce either at home or away, and this season, or the last couple of seasons have a terrible record against top half sides in the division which after a change of manager and the usual upturn in form Bradford now are.
Injuries are always being pointed to for our poor performances, rightly so in some instances , but, you and I have to accept that over the last few years many of the team that played against Morecambe have repeated the mistakes in defence, the attitude to the game when their heads go down, and their general demeaner and approach to the game not just under this manager but others who were not as bad as we made out, just left to manage some players who have proved over a long period not good enough.
How do we get over that? contracts are agreed and cannot be broken so we have little scope and it is the wrong transfer window to do a lot of business so youth and a couple of astute signings and hopefully players like Faulkner coming in with attitude and desire back from injury can keep us out of trouble at the wrong end of the division, have a little cup run and finish the season in better fettle, while getting as many as we can of the players not doing it out on loan for their own good. That would be my approach, do you agree?
Bradford come on a high and will have a big following, will be looking for an early Christmas present off us, and will turn up full of confidence, again will we be the S*it shown against Morecambe? or the sugar at Peterborough? I have no idea, and I do not envy Grant having to try and lift the whole club out of what is becoming again a poor season with the same players making the same mistakes over and over again.
The one shaft of light is the EFL cup that can lift the season, and hopefully a little consistency on the Sugar level of performances, I am beginning to get tired of some of the players and inconsistent form shown, it is down to attitude and desire which I question about this playing staff.
What do you think? there is a lot on this and the following holiday fixtures all against top sides, lose the lot which on yesterdays form is a distinct possibility and heavy losses at that, and the S**t will really hit the fan, Lets hope we have some Sugar and at least some injured players with attitude to fight for us come back, and the latest manager's blast has woken a few up.
Please have your say, and vent your feelings.

They have won their last 5 games on the trot in all competitions and kept 4 clean sheets in that run. Their away form in the league is play off form (7th) and much better than their home form (19th).
They have if fit Andy Cook, Tyler Smith, Vadaine Oliver and Matt Derbyshire to choose from up front against our highly porous defence. You would imagine there is a very high chance of a cross into the box and a headed goal from some of those lads.
-
I’d say there’s a good chance of another heavy home defeat
-
After being so positive recently I expected us to kick on . Started to eye a top half finish and expected us to actually "paste" someone
Perhaps it might have been yesterday but , no , we were the battered ones and it feels so disappointing and with Bradford Mansfield and Notts County coming up I feel the batterings are coming our way
PvO ? L L L for me . I want us to win each one but it looks beyond us on yesterday's showing
-
It was interesting to hear GM talk about players being “self employed. “
They aren’t though are they? They get paid no matter what.
Those who are truly self employed know that they are only as good as their last job. And reputation is everything. Those that pulled on the rovers shirt yesterday, barring a few exceptions, were shockingly poor and a disgrace.
Players still have way too much power imo. It’s a shame contracts don’t have clauses in for repeated poor performances. And performance related pay based on managers assessments. Most of them wouldn’t have got paid yesterday. And if they did, it would be a fraction of what they currently get.
-
Players should get a basic wage. Then topped up on win bonuses and how they pay etc. I don’t get much money. I have a 3-4 hours round journey. I don’t think the players understand what our supporters pay to see them. It’s not just the tickets. We have a good core of away support to. It all adds up. I don’t mind when we lose as long as the players put a shift in. It frustrates me as it does all our supporters when that was served up yesterday.
Yes we have injuries, the ones that are fit should be thinking here’s my chance. But no.
As said before, if we put a shit shift into our work, it would be warnings or being sacked
Fed up with excuses about injuries. Yes we have lots, god knows why but the fit players should be looking forward to playing and doing there best
-
Recalling the Bradford game last season, it was another when perhaps we feared the worst prematch and one where the knives were already being sharpened for the manager.
But I do remember us getting into the game and just starting to get on top of Bradford. Their travelling support celebrated throw ins like goals, yet when we were getting into good positions, our support was relatively quiet.
Just as we were getting on top, the game flipped when they scored prompting the return of all the angst and anxiety both on and off the pitch.
I fear the same could easily happen but, I really hope fans come to the game with an open mind, putting yesterday behind them, and at least try and match Bradfords fans support of their players.
-
We’ll treat Cook just like we do Matt Smith and Charlie Wyke. Soft as shit, get bullied at every juncture, and inevitably will score.
-
According to GM, Selby, he said nothing to the players. Have you got some different insider information?
-
Think he will have had plenty to say.
Wish I was a fly on the wall after that yesterday.
They will have been made to sit and watch the entire game down at Cantley Park this morning.
Some home truths said.
I just want to see some serious leadership out on the park.
Pity Wood isn’t fit.
In fact I would like to see Rob Jones out there with this lot. He might be about 48 now but by heck he would have rattled a few necks yesterday.
He would have strung a few of them up in fact.
Literally.
-
For me Andy Cook is the best Centre Forward in this league by a distance, I would have Bailey do a man marking job on him all game, sadly neither Tom or Joe are capable of maintaining concentration for the 90 odd minutes. The thing about Cook is, his aerial ability is obvious, but he drops deep and plays wide men in with slide rule precision and then has the pace and determination to then get on the end of things - which is why he has to have a man to man job on him.
Without Cook they haven't much else out of the ordinary from what I've seen.
Louis still has the gloves for me
Sterry / Olowu / Anderson / Senior operating as a back 4 albeit the wide lads have licence to push on a bit.
Bailey CDM - "Cookwatching"
It's our centre midfield though - Has to be Close with Nixon on right and Molly or Hursty left
Mo/Jo up top
We simply MUST get better quality crosses in to the middle and find the front lads with threaded balls and cut out the sloppiness
-
Actually no Raven, just repeated what another supporter has told me. If it is true he did right as far as I am concerned, they were really poor and deserved any S**T that was thrown their way.
To me they showed no pride in wearing the shirt yesterday, and deserve a dressing down
-
In the home game last season Cook bullied Olowu. Watch for Cook moving onto Olowu for every header.
-
And watch Tyler Smith looking to run in behind Anderson at every opportunity.
I might need a fair few mad Friday drinks for this one.
-
Although I'm a ST holder, I'll be watching this on iFollow in the warmth at home.
There's no way I'm turning out in the cold to watch us getting pumped.

And we will get pumped SS
You a fortune teller now. Thought it was only BB with a crystal ball.
Come on SS get behind your team. Think GM will get a reaction from the players on Friday. If they do not turn up again then the axe will fall heavily in the summer because GM wants winners in his team and he isn’t going to accept players just going through the motions.
Think you will miss a very competitive derby game which we have a chance of winning.
Anyway it’s not too cold. It is quite mild for December. Get your coat hat and gloves on SS and help our team. We need lots of vocal support as Bradford won’t be short of it. They are bringing well over 3.000 fans.
-
I hate to say it but if we have to start with Biggins and Hurst again I think we will get another hiding. At the moment neither are remotely competitive and playing both gives the rest of the team too much to do.

They might not bring well over 3,000 fans though.
I will be over with the grandkids and we will be meeting up with two of my late son’s mates and their kids.We only gave City 2,800,tickets initially. The ones that I am meeting got tickets easily and know other City fans that would have come on the Saturday not bothering with a Friday night fixture. It will seem a long journey back to Bradford if we lose.
At least I know plenty of City fans who will be happy if we give them three points.
-
If ever there was a game where not only the players showed their true mettle, but McCaan can show the supporters that given their support, he can carry this club forward.
After Saturday, whether we finish 7th, 10th or 19th this season, this game above all others is a must win.
There will be close to 3,000 Brad City supporters there who will drown out anything the Black Bank can ‘throw’ at them.
The team has to put on a performance that will silence them.
They owe us one.
-
Forecast winds of 40 mph + might improve quality on display.
-
It is simple, our form at Peterborough, and shown in other games and Bradford come willing to take us on in an open game, the chances are we will at least compete.
If they come here like any side I would bring here as manager, and get in our faces, get on top early and pressure us fiddling around at the back, and are willing to break our play up with the tactical foul, they will have every chance of rolling us over.
-
I thought Kuleya was the one bright spot on Saturday - on that basis I think he's earned a start - the only one who looked bothered and showed signs of quality.
I'd give Lawlor a start, Sterry to start and play a back four. I thought Mo was poor on Saturday and dropped off last few games, needs a rest and another option but obviously we don't have one at the moment!
Hopefully a big crowd, and we can turn up and compete. They'll fancy this, and as others have said Cook is exactly the sort of bully-boy target man that we can't cope with.
Grant got to do something to spark a reaction, as I thought he let us down on Saturday not making the changes at HT. A full half and only a two goal gap and the extra energy of Kuleya and Goodman could have changed things, we only needed an early goal and they'd have crumbled I think. Changing wholesale at 0-3 meant the game was over and we were chasing shadows.

I still think we would get a bigger gate on Saturday Idler. Xmas or no Xmas.
Someone told me they had sold their full allocation and were getting more tickets. ;)

“Man flesh!” When Andy Cook sees what idiots he’s up against on Friday.
-
Monkcaster Rover, we are not that bad a side, are capable of playing very well, and Bradford and Cook although decent are not outstanding by any means and a Real Madrid at this level, or they would not be playing here Friday.
The main question is not Bradford, but if we win the battle to play our game, and if our defence and midfield stand up to be counted, if they do we are capable of giving any team in this division a hard time of it and they will have to play somewhere near their best to take anything from the game.
That is my frustration, we are better than we show we are in a lot of games and don't earn the right to play our game.
-
How many times do we see a ball pumped into the box and an opposition number 9 head or bundle it into the goal.
-
Quite a few times CBcb, and lot's of teams do it, and the funny thing is nearly all including Manchester City who move the ball about tactically most of the time, they nearly all resort to lumping the ball into the box if losing in the last ten minutes, you know why? it is because it takes defenders out of the game and goals are scored that way.
Why they persist the rest of the game farting about and than suddenly change tack in a panic to lump it to score always confuses me.

https://youtu.be/nmkfZrDwvPo?si=qKt2f5tkVahQ4tNN
Bradford looked to play direct in their last game.
Look at Cook winning everything. I was questioned on here post-Salford when I said we wouldn’t face another target man like remotely Smith until Cook. Olowu best be feeling brave and aggressive or he and the team will be made mincemeat of.
Halliday lucky not to be suspended for Friday’s game IMO. That looked like a red card challenge. He also looks a threat but as we know he is defensively suspect and will vacate space.
-
They are strong down the wings and are converting the crosses into goals, we may well be in trouble. I hope not.
-
Our weakness's are in mid field when we lose possession and straight down the middle of defence who are alright facing the ball but let balls behind them and in Anderson's case has no pace to recover and Olowu is prone to getting caught out positionally or making a complete silly mistake.
We are better going forward and need to play as much of the game as possible in the oppositions half of the field and put them on the back foot.
Bradford will no doubt try to start fast attack and try and get that early goal that generally results in our heads going down, and body language showing it.
-
Absolutely dreading tonight!
-
Absolutely dreading tonight!
Wear some gloves Mush, it will stop you biting your finger nails down too much.
-
This IS a must win game to keep our faint hopes alive.
Can't make it tonight but got tickets for Notts and Mansfield so need a result to boost confidence for those tough games
-
Living half an hour the other side of Bradford, I'm surrounded by lots of Bantams fans where I live. My teenage daughters are both Donny ST holders so have always been the only Rovers fans in school, again surrounded by Bradford fans.
So this fixture has always had an added edge for me and my family.
Please Rovers, don't let me down tonight.
-
Clean slate tonight. Time to put all the anxiety behind us and cheer the boys in red n white on. Every won ball, throw in, corner, spur them on and make them feel they can run that extra yard! Plus, this ref owes us one.
COYR.
-
Don’t mind drawing or losing but please no more soft as shite goals conceded from balls into box and Cook bullying our lads to bundle home. Surely we must know that is going to be their tactic and we’ve prepared a plan? Surely.
-
Would anyone start Kuleya or Goodman tonight? I would go with one of them depending on the shape as they brought a lot of energy when they came on
-

Not me.
Who would you leave out?
-
No way, we have better players, two to go out on loan in January if we can find a club for them.
-
If you can’t stop Cook once it gets to him, then you need to cut out his service. You double up down the flanks, play two full backs on each side, if you have enough fit that is. You pick a nice solid team. Protect the back four and get it up the other end as much as you can. We need to be intelligent to win the game. Can we do that, I hope so.
-
If we spend all the game worrying about Cook we are not going to play our own attacking game.
Yes he needs watching obviously but as said cut off as much supply to him as possible.
We need to be at it for 90 + mins. Win the 50/50’s earn the right to play. Need big games from our midfielders tonight.
I do hope we play a flat back 4. We don’t need GM falling into the trap that DF did and insist on playing a system that quite clearly isn’t working against some teams. We are leaving ourselves wide open with a 3 centre back system.
Also will GM bring back Lawlor now. He brought him in as no 1 played well in most games then got injured. Louie looks very unconvincing to me and has too many facets to his game which are not good enough imo.
We will see what GM does but if it goes badly wrong tonight we could be perilously close to the drop zone at 9.40 pm on 29/12 after the Mansfield game.
We need a confidence boosting performance and result tonight.
Over to you Grant and the players to produce it.
Come on the ROVERS :that:

Such a simple game.
-
After the last game I’m not hopeful tbh. I really hope I’m worrying for nothing but if that’s the kind of performance we can expect until we are over the worst of the injury crisis I can see us scoring zero points until about mid January.
-
Lawlor starts tonight. Jones on bench.
Close and Rowe start. Looks like back three of Olowu, Anderson and Senior.

Not after accusing others of the same.

I would make it Bailey Anderson Olowu back 3. Nixon and Senior wingbacks ?
Looks like he’s going defensive to start with attacking options on the bench

I presume that that translates into 1-0 to us Gnatts County are also 1-0 down
I am still trying to find the Highlights from The Morecambe match ( I know there weren't any) no lucky pint either :crying:

Non existent defending again from a set piece. The hall was so high in the air, it had snow on it when it came down. So much time for a rovers defender to position themself to defend it.

Every. Single. Time.

We have no midfield worthy of the effort. I’d sooner play long ball and play the percentages in the Bradford box than try playing through them !! Cook is just too good for our defence .
-
Midfield is pathetic.
Instruction is clearly to bypass it but still, when they do get it, it’s horrific.
-
Had a build a bet on for this game.
Ironside to score. Check.
More than 0.5 goals in first half. Check.
10 or more corners. We are at 7.
50+ booking points.
So three corners and let’s get dirty please for second half.
-
That’s the 10 corners.
Just need another 4 yellow cards. Or a couple of reds. Lol.
-
Shite no effort corner leads straight down the field to an easy 3rd goal ffs
-
Just had a feeling with our atrocious defence that 1-3 was a good bet.
-
I'm clinging on to Grant's interview regarding signing players come January who fit the way he wants his teams to play, because at the minute we are a million miles away. If we don't improve the squad in January we have a real chance of going down. I watched FGR for half an hour tonight before our game, & they posed far more threat going forward than we did tonight, & they are bottom! The threat is there & real. That's now 8 goals conceded at home in 2 games.
-

But McCann had all the summer window to bring in the players he wanted. January is a notoriously worse time to be making signings.

Wow that was worrying and brought back bad memories of last season. Mo’s performances in the last two games have dropped off a cliff- wonder if he is going back.
-
He’s probably knackered from all the games he is playing as a young lad. It was a footballing horror show tonight though. Atrocious football as bad as McSheffrey and Schofield.
-

Said the same to my mate about Mo. He’s been rubbish this past week.

Meant to reply to this earlier but was going to say Faal. He’s knackered and we need more pace and movement in the side.
They had more zip and aggression everywhere. I wonder what sort of conditioning the players get. Could be something in the injuries with that too.
-
Maybe time to go 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, bring in Roberts, Hurst and Molyneux.
-
I think it’s clear Roberts is going back, the way McCann spoke about him the other day.
-
I couldn't go tonight but I don't feel like going to Notts of Mansfield but already bought tickets.
-
McCann after match interview in summary - we were poor, got bullied and rolled by Cook, shot ourselves in the foot with restarts and losing possession, going to take a lot of work to get this lot sorted.
-
“Man flesh!” When Andy Cook sees what idiots he’s up against on Friday.
Yep
-
Boring interviews. Rinse repeat. The club is on a downward trajectory and amongst many others I’m tired of watching this rubbish! Poor team, no character and pitiful investment. Sad times
-
Out of that starting X1 I’d keep Joe Ironside & Owen Bailey.
The rest can go for me.
-
We need some good basic defenders, Anderson lost Cook at the corner while playing tiggy in our own penalty area, and had his back to the ball in flight, the biggest mistake in any ball game, never take your eye off the ball.
The second could have been off side but a simple ball played into the gap left between Olowu and Anderson, a repeat of so many goals we concede, most could and did predict the scorers and how before the game, same people making the same mistakes and a mid field that surrenders, and are more likely to go square or backwards with their passes or give it straight back to the opposition.
Meanwhile we failed to test their keeper in the second half when we should have been chasing the game, and the stark difference in the two back lines approach to defending was there for all to see, Bradford just launched it to the half way line as quickley and as crudely as possible, and then looked to play in our half with the quick passing in an area that is not that vital if you lose the ball.
Let's hope someone noticed and it settled on some grey matter before it is too late, at least now we can prioritise the EFL cup.
-

I did go tonight and right now I don't feel like going to any more games.

I know we don’t do the simple things right.
I was agreeing with some of your post which is why I wrote what I did.
I had a right laugh though when that Iberian plonker dived in with his defender of bst badge on and had a go at me.
He really does need to control his anger issues.

McCann has made some good signings during the summer, Bailey, Ironside, Nixon, Sterry, Westbrook (extended obviously), Senior. All easilygood enough at this level.
Yes January is a bad time for signings, but as I said, in his interview he said they have targets so hopefully we will see a few coming in.

I went to ticket office pre match to get some Mansfield tickets, only to be told they had gone off sale? Have I dodged a bullet?

With that kind of luck you need to buy a lottery ticket

If you can’t stop Cook once it gets to him, then you need to cut out his service. You double up down the flanks, play two full backs on each side, if you have enough fit that is. You pick a nice solid team. Protect the back four and get it up the other end as much as you can. We need to be intelligent to win the game. Can we do that, I hope so.
Such a simple game.
It is, those who try to make it difficult are the ones trying to seem more intelligent than they are. We don’t do the simple things right.
I know we don’t do the simple things right.
I was agreeing with some of your post which is why I wrote what I did.
I had a right laugh though when that Iberian plonker dived in with his defender of bst badge on and had a go at me.
He really does need to control his anger issues.
No anger on my part little doggy. In fact your post made me laugh.
I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of your post.
It appears that paranoia and bitterness are creeping in along with mother time.

Im glad i stayed up until 2am to watch that - on hols just now. A shambles.
In no order:
Why didnt Sterry start ? (easing him back in apparently, maybe start and come off if need be)
Why didnt Bailey partner Olowu in the back four ? (it worked well'ish previously)
Why didnt Rowe sit in front of the back four, orchestrate, save legs, concentrate on Cook ?
Could have gone with Hurst, Moly and Close in midfield - especially with Rowe behind them.
Faal has run out of steam - surely Goodman should have started.
The rantings of a tired madman but im proper fed up of this now

You can still get them online. I think they switch over to tickets for that game only on a match day after a certain time.
At this rate we are taking about 700 to Mansfield, which would be really disappointing.

You are far too long in the tooth to behaving like a teenage troll.
First a plonker,now a female.
Grow up and show some maturity and self respect.

Come on, get real.
I have lost count of the number of times you have trolled my posts since your comeback after the three year abscence.
You seriously lack respect for anyone who dosn't tow the line that you want.
You have resorted to several homophobic accusations on here too.
I'm out of this now because i don't want to let you destroy yet another thread.
Have a lovely Christmas.

Living in Bradford I know many City fans. I met some of my late son’s mates friends in the Cheswold. All of them and their friends were saying that the Morecombe result was the worst thing that could have happened for them. They were all worried and half expected to lose.
How wrong they were. They had a far more enjoyable journey home than the four of us in my car. I’m dreading Valley Parade in January.

Good post, Idler. I too expected a reaction from our players, and we couldn't have had a better start, with the gift goal they gave us. However, we offered nothing after that.
Our only hope at Valley Parade is some quality signings in January, particularly in defence and midfield.

Well thanks for totally letting me down last night Rovers.
I still can’t get over the feeling of despair after witnessing that.
I’m sick of this team flattering to deceive.

Idler if we play Faulkner and Wood down the middle and tell them to just do their thing, basic defending and Physical, Collins and co will not bully anyone.
WE have the players at the club to be a completely different animal defensively, for one reason or another we have not used them.

How long before we can have a match fit wood and faulkner? If he still wants to play 3 at the back id include bailey with them 2. Solid back 3 there. Need maxwell back also.

I agree with this, although Wood has spent most of the season injured, I rate Faulkner but in the game v Mansfield he was poor.

I think what I took away from this game was that you don't have to be that good to be successful in this league, we already knew that I guess.
The Bradford defenders weren't comfortable on the ball, they could just do the basics and hoick it up front for Cook to try and win the ball or get the second ball. You could have anyone in their midfield, it wouldn't really matter, although that number 7 looked half decent.
Tyler Smith looks dangerous with his pace and it was a clinical finish for the goal.
This was the game where Biggins' lack of attributes was laid bare. Couldn't look after the ball, couldn't find a pass, positionally nowhere.
We've got a really clever player in Ironside, I just hope we can make better use of him in the second half of the season.
Don't know where I stand on the formation stuff. Clearly we've had a decent run of games where its worked but equally there's games where it just exposes our weaknesses, albeit because of the injury list.
I back Grant 100% to turn this around. Another couple of windows to get rid of the dead stuff and bring in some better players. I think it all starts with a solid keeper, a priority for me.
-
Well what I took away from that game is that Bradford City did to us something that we are incapable of doing to any team.
They gave us a goal start then gradually took us apart and finished comfortable winners.
We can’t do that to any team in this division.
