Let's see if we can have a thread where no one falls out. It is Xmas after all.
What foods did you hate as a child but nowadays couldn't live without?
I could put 'vegetables' as my choice as my Mum used to boil all veg for hours before a meal. They ended up being served as a kind of indistinguishable, grey mush, which was only made edible by the addition of half a tub of salt.
But the one thing I used to absolutely hate above all others was .... cheese.
And I don't mean smelly cheese, I mean common or garden, mousetrap cheddar.
The faintest whiff of cheese used to give me the dry heaves. My older brother occasionally would chase me round the house with a block of cheese, ready to press it against my nose, to invoke the heaving. (Before replacing it in the fridge for our parents to eat)
These days, I couldnt live without cheese. I've bought and eaten the 'Xmas cheeses' 3 times already and am just off to the supermarket to buy them for the 4th time.
So what food did you hate as a kid (and why, if there's a specific reason), but love now?

2 spring to mind straight away. Smoked Salmon is was one and Strawberries
Eat em for England now
-
Enchiladas. Hated the spice, now one of my favourites. Curry probably up there too.
-
Cauliflower, loved it as kid, I would eat a whole one mainly nicked from next door’s garden. I can’t stand it now, but I also used to into farmers fields near by and eat raw sugar beets
-
Sprouts, Broccoli, Tomatoes …. and Cheese!!!
-
Caviar.

I feel your pain Wolfie. I hated that moment when I'd be playing out in Denaby Backs after school and my grandma would stand on the back step and shout "Billy! Your smoked salmon is ready!"

Although it was commonplace for us posh folk in Bentley, I was never all that keen on Caviar as a kid. I still prefer a common Plaice from the chippy to this day.

Parsnips and turnips.
Free meals at school and they used to try and hide them in my mashed tatties.
Now growing my own parsnips, but I still think turnips are rank.
Edit
I love grellos.
Translates as turnip tops, but it isn't

I wasn't particularly honouring the "kid" part in the Title , more a kind of food I disliked for ages and quite like now
My time in the 50s included lots of bread and dropping which I wouldn't eat now , along with Lamb which stunk so I stopped eating that in 58 and smelly baked spuds which I disliked but they are another food that "came" good and I now like

I'll roasting the sprouts then banging them under the grill with the cauliflower cheese and paprika.

Yes, good touch

Our dinner sometimes was a plate + grated cheese, an egg broken in the middle with milk poured over then baked in the oven till brown (can post the recipe if required)
I have fond memories of my parents wrestling me to the floor to try and make me eat it, not on my list of favourites that one.

The pair of you disgust me!
It was all going well til paprika was mentioned. It should be a criminal offence to be in possession of it and carry a long jail term!

I hated cucumber when I was a kid and I f**king hate it now, especially the disgusting rind.

Well done Mug . Admirable aim for a "gloating free" Thread and it seems to have worked
Merry Xmas all
-
Its the other way round for me Mug. Tend to hate things now that I liked as a kid.
Like Whelks.
Used to love chewing on them for hours at Filey in the 60's
Can't stomach em now.

Hated dark chocolate as a kid.
Prefer it to milk chocolate now
