Is there some rule about letting smoke bombs burn themselves out these days? Couldn’t someone just pick them up and put em in a bucket of sand?
Also our new outsourced stewards are not doing a very good job of spotting the culprits with the bombs

I thought that tactic was spot on from the ref. Can’t resume play while they’re smoking away. No steward or anyone should have to deal with them while lit. Let them smoke away and waste everybody’s time.
Idiots bringing those in are a disgrace to their club. My guess is they were chucked on by some clown who is too young to remember the fire at their ground and too thick to have read about it.

I’m almost sure the officials have been told not to restart the game whilst a smoke bomb is burning, either on the pitch, the perimeter or in the stand.
I seem to think there has been a decline in such incidents this season, I’m not sure of the facts but it seems that way

It's a shocking decision to just leave them the game was delayed for about 3 minutes and the idiots that throw them will do it more for the attention it will get just sat there blazing away

Next question, do away fans get searched as much as home fans, I’ve been searched 4 times this season by the outsourced stewards on the turnstyle’s , I’m 60 years old, not carrying a bag and Season Membership Card in my hand as I approach the Turnstile, what do they expect to find on me? I have my car keys and my phone in my pocket and thats it

At a recent home match I was searched by a fella using a metal detector thingy body scanner, but I don’t think it was working that well as I had come straight from work and still had my parcel knife in my pocket

There were far more concerning crimes being committed on the pitch than a few smoke bombs

They must have literally only thrown them out, the guy covered in tinsel was stood outside the Beefeater when I went back to my car
The second one was sat on a bench on the west stand concourse in cuffs looking very sorry for himself surrounded by police as we left after the final whistle.
The difference between the 2 was that the first one didn't resist being evicted. The second one certainly did.

Can't say for sure but why would there be a difference? The arrest tally is always greater for away fans than home fans. And discarded items are always greater at the away turnstiles too.
Maybe you just look dodgy Filo? :-)
But searching for smoke bombs is an incredibly difficult task, they are so small they can be hidden almost anywhere and are virtually undetectable.
Edit; forgot to add that the CCTV system is very good at pinpointing who is who and arrests being made as they leave the stadium.

Stewards should be issued with leaf blowers to blow the acrid smoke back into the fans who've let the canisters off in the first place.
Might speed up the restart also.

I watch a lot of Dutch footy and the ruling over there is that if there is any crowd disturbance/ anything thrown on the pitch, the players leave the field. It’s made things worse. When teams are losing the fans just start launching missiles on to the pitch. Just pick the flares up and crack on would be my advice to the guidance makers. Bring as little attention to the situation as possible.

Course not but that's just another silly extreme to go to. All I'm saying is its ridiculous to say someone throwing a smoke bomb is somehow linked to him not caring about the fire
And yes I do think they're a good idea in a controlled manner. Just watching the build up to the Chelsea v Palace game and English atmosphere is just cringe cringe cringe. Loud music, fire machines, flashing stadium lights, cheesy man on the mic all to cover up that there's no atmosphere what so ever. It's sad what England fans have become (an no, I'm not advocating lobbing a bomb at a keeper )
