Whilst Newport have come to rovers rescue today I see the leagues whipping boys Sutton have got a surprise win away at Wimbledon . The points gap is non too comfortable for what is a side now getting used to losing badly. And with both centre halves coming off today amidst another poor team performance , it makes for an interesting transfer window ahead.

Pray for heavy rain so the game gets abandoned Friday. It will be as bad as today otherwise. Hope there's 5 or 6 lined up from Jan 1st to save us
-
Anderson out, Owulu out, Wood out, Long out, Lawlor out, Jones out, Lavery out, Taylor out, Roberts out, Sotana out, Biggins out... absolutely garbage the job lot of em..a few more probably to add to the list too..

I'm not disagreeing with anything but it's Olowu, not Oluwu.

We are absolutely in real trouble here. These last few games have been as bad as anything under Schofield. The one mercy is that we have the January window opening soon.
We're not too big to go down, far from it.

The last few games have been far worse than anything under Schofield. At least he knew how to organise scraps of a squad so it wasn't shipping 11 goals on ten days. We might have been toothless and shit, but we rarely got taken to the cleaners like the last three games, even when we had Tommy Rowe and 9 pre-pubesecents playing outfield.
Even when the wheels came off last season, we only conceded 3 goals twice in 20 games. We've exceeded that in the last 3.
We MUST find a way to become more robust defensively, because if we don't, we aren't anywhere near good enough to score the goals we need to make up for it.

We are not going down.
It is turning into another depressingly bad season though.
My brother in law has been today, third Boxing Day in a row (all 0-3…Merry Christmas).
He reminded me how bad we were at Tranmere last season and we’ve both questioned what the hell has happened in the last calendar year.
-
Mansfield next. Who today had 39 shots against Grimsby. Pretty much a shot every 2 and a half minutes.
-
Some of these players are playing like they’ve been told they are history
This is very very clear to me . Of those that can stay past Jan most of those that remain know their shelf life won’t go beyond summer. And after that they don’t give a damn where rovers as a club will be come season end . And this is very very dangerous for rovers as a club. Mcann is trying to push water uphill .
-
I’d give Anderson a ‘rest’, make Bailey captain in a back 4 alongside Flint (who looks good to me every time I see him). Tell the full backs to defend first and foremost.
Until we sort the defence well enough to get clean sheets there’s little point worrying about midfield and attack.

More like it was the fans choice, and a large majority at that.

If we put Flint in now we probably ruin him forever. If full backs don't get forward then we have no width, not least as the two players with pace presumably signed to play wide in Roberts and Sotana have both been f**ked off. Our wide players who have to be Hurst and Molyneux, neither of which has pace.

The right decision too in my opinion, has he made mistakes? yes. Has he misjudged this league? my opinion, yes. Can he sort it? without a doubt given the tools. Give him January to reinforce a desperately depleted squad, & players not showing anywhere near enough for the shirt. We're all in this together & we need as supporters to stay fully behind the manager & chairman. We've suffered for nearly 3 years, I'm sure an upturn is not too far away.

Whilst the last 3 game results haven't been anywhere near ideal the team will be suffering just as much as we the fans are, the amount of toxic chants and absolute shitty comments coming from our 'fans' is an absolute disgrace, I would love GM to bring the players to the job centre when these so called fans will no doubt be signing on and stealing a living and have the players scream at them while they claim there jobseekers allowance and tell them how shit they are and get them out.
January is going to be massive for this club and its very gloomy at the minute but TB delivered on pretty much everything the fans were calling for, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this rovers team, GM needs IMO 3 windows to get players out who are not fitting into his system and get the type of player in he is screaming out for, we know from a previous season the type of football GM brings, its just going to take time.

Total mystery to me why people get on backs of our own players during a game. Maybe boo at end of game but during the match? Very odd behaviour.

Frustration borne out of the stark contrast between performances like that of Peterborough, Forest in the EFL and the battle against Accy to that of Morcambe, Bradford and today.

Im fully behind mcann, i am prepared to give him some time and transfer windows to put together his squad. We cant keep changing the manager at the rate we have for the past couple of seasons.

ST should be bought by the fans regardless of the season, I personally bought next seasons during the black Friday deal last month even though I have no clue as to who will be manager, who the players will be, what league we will be in, I did this as I'm a fan of Doncaster and will continue to follow them through the good and bad times, some fans only want the good times and judging some of the posts in this forum they live for a bad game just to slag the team off to probably make themselves feel better.
-
After the last 3 games fans imo have the right to show they are not happy.
-
I got mine in the Black Friday sale as £200 is nothing for a full season. We'll be better next season for sure with McCann. We'll have a brand new team almost too v the one now
-
£200 is about right for a non league ST.
-
After the last 3 games fans imo have the right to show they are not happy.
Completely agree fans should be able to let their feelings known but when it's the same few in the crowd creating such a toxic atmosphere where does the line get drawn?? Singing about the team being so shit, singing we get beat everywhere we go/everyweek, baffles me why spend hard earned money to watch a team that is struggling massively with injuries and the best team possible from the players available was put out today in the opinion of GM.

I agree with you that the fans shouldn't be singing "We're f*cking shit" during the game, even when we all know that they actually are shit.
However, the time to worry is when there'll hardly be any fans left to sing anything.

Mk. 0
Harrogate 1
Newport 1
Bradford 0
Stockport 0
Sutton 3
Tranmere 1
Salford 3
Grimsby 1
Wimbledon. 0
So that’s another 10 points between now and end of feb. 2 wins 4 draws.
And I think I’m being optimistic. 34 points. And desperate for more to survive before season end.

While all those results are possible dickos and I would have agreed with those predictions before the Morecambe game, I think you are being wildly optimistic after the shambles of the last 3 games.
By heck I hope you are right but I can’t see it happening right now.

That’s a ppg swing from 1.04 currently to 1.7 in those ten games .

We'll be in serious trouble if Forest Green recruit well in January. Their chairman is promising new recruits to turn their season around. It could be between us or Colchester who goes down with Sutton.

I’m one of the top half betters on here and have kept off the board so far tonight.
I think right now I can kiss any winnings goodbye but can go back to my comments of a couple of years or so back when we were struggling to stay in L1.
I mentioned the slippery slope of relegation carrying on into L2 and us potentially sliding into the National League.
Last season wasn’t great was it and it appears that we are still on the slide.
I dearly hope we can get a grip and stop it.
-
Hound, given our current form, I think it will be between us and Colchester who will go down to the National League, swapping places with Chesterfield.
-
Managerial mistake followed by managerial mistake. Throw in quite a few dire signings, shocking contracts, injuries and an utter waste of time and money on a HOF and it’s no surprise Rovers are in the state they are.
They have the right manager now, for the club imo, and it looks like him and TB want to grab the team by the scruff of the neck, but is it far too little, far too late..? I hope not.
-
41 of us predicted a defeat today on p v o. And it’s looking like a similar amount will be opting for the same this Friday, with every poster up to now (21) opting for a loss. Sad times.

Statistic doing the rounds today. Over the last 5 years of the 92 league clubs, these are the sides that have lost the most games:
Queens Park Rangers - 104
Birmingham City - 101
Doncaster Rovers - 100
Reading - 99
Huddersfield - 96
What’s quite notable is that Reading exploded due to financial issues and point deductions and Huddersfield got understandably relegated from the Premier League, the other sides must have won a fair amount of games as they haven’t been relegated. We likely lost a huge amount but didn’t win many either and had no point deductions. We really are the biggest losers.
Ton up!

Another manager hired due to sentiment
I feel Grant is a good manager, I consider some one like Nigel Clough similar and good.
In 2020 Mansfield finished 21st in Lg2, they took on Clough and improved them over the next 3 seasons, then this season they’re looking very good.
I’m expecting a similar 3/4 season build. And I think Grant and Cliff are more than capable by getting out the rubbish (we all know who they are) and building on the promising bunch
But it’s tough going at the moment.
I felt for some of the newer players yesterday when the supporters chanted the not fit to where a shirt.
But could understand the frustration with the usual suspects.
-
How come Wellens was such a disaster at Doncaster and yet got Leyton Orient promoted from this same league? And now we supposedly have a better manager in McCann and still Rovers can't even get into the top half of the table. Something is seriously wrong at Doncaster, and has been for 3 years. I can't see how we improve. All I read is "smoke and mirrors" to distract us all from the fact that we are in real trouble and need a massive clearout in every area of the club. We slid into this situation while too many fans were in denial, but many are beginning to recognise we are no longer the Championship club we used to be with little realistic chance of getting back.
-
I did think we were in same group as Dingles, Rotherham, Peterborough - similar crowds, good League One clubs who couldn't last in the Championship.
Last few seasons we have dropped well back from this lot, behind that group of Lincoln City, Oxford United and Bristol Rovers, who are solid mid-table League One performers usually.
We are now fixtures in the bottom third of League Two, alongside clubs like Forest Green Rovers (average gate 2100), Salford City (2600) and Sutton United (3000). All of these have gates half of our gates. Salford of course destroyed us 3-0 at home not too long ago.

Years of being a solid league ONE side pushing for promotion we are not even a solid league TWO side pushing for promotion.
Where are we going and what can we do about it, because we need a miracle immediately?
Even the most optimistic fan must privately be concerned right now.
Is TB going to open his cheque book or leave the club struggling at the bottom of league two? I can't see what else will save this club (or another committed investor).

That's a great stat, or not as the case may be. Just shows what us supporters have had to endure, especially over the last 3 seasons. I dare say out of those clubs shown, ours were the worst performance wise too.
-
I'd hazard a guess that if you looked at the 3 year period from the start of 2021 up to now, no one in the football league would have lost as many games as we have. I can't think of anyone who could match us over that period.

Rovers will be overtaking Brum and qpr very soon.
I'm very thankful to TB for his financial support, but this is a total embarrassment, I wonder if he is aware. Even under GM we can't muster anything, God knows what the answer is now. As noone is willing to put more money in and we have a good manager, where do we go from here. Saying we want Championship football is easy to say it but where the hell is that coming from?
-
I guess we’ll see how serious Terry is about the club through further immediate investment? If they don’t bring in decent players we will struggle to stay in the league imo.

All rovers have to do is match or better those below them. A couple of fully fit battlers in central defence should help us steady the ship in Jan. Fingers crossed they get any defensive acquisitions spot on. A playmaker or two in the middle of the park and we should stay up.
Anything less and it really will be backs to the wall for the second half of the season. Which after tomorrow we will start in 21 st place I reckon.

But if we were to become embroiled in a relegation tussle too many members of this team do not have the mental strength to fight their way out of it.

I’m confident given the right levels of service, faal and ironside will bag more goals. That will only come from a cohesive midfield. Which is fairly absent currently. I’ll be gobsmacked if GM has not got something up his sleeve for Jan. And with the talk of two players already training with the squad it seems he has a plan. And it also seems he has the direct ear of TB also.
-
As we don’t play with wingers and our wing backs spend all their time desperately trying to support the three stooges in centre of defence, we have zero width or pace out wide, while in the absence of Westbrooke and Close together in midfield, we have no creativity or guile, nor indeed legs. So as a result we have to hammer balls forward to usually Ironside and expect him to hold them up in futile effort of anyone then running past him, or dropping to Faal and expecting him to dribble past half a dozen players to score. This all obviously has the expected result.

Where has this two players training with the squad come from?

£200 is about right for a non league ST.
We won't go down for sure.
Where's all the top half finish betters gone?
When we get beat Friday the odds will be even better. Then it's time to put it on.
I respect your optimism Padge.
But let’s put some numbers to it shall we?
What’s your points tally for the following games? Mine are shown.
Mk. 0
Harrogate 1
Newport 1
Bradford 0
Stockport 0
Sutton 3
Tranmere 1
Salford 3
Grimsby 1
Wimbledon. 0
So that’s another 10 points between now and end of feb. 2 wins 4 draws.
And I think I’m being optimistic. 34 points. And desperate for more to survive before season end.
It’s a good start

Always happy to have my opinion shot down when rovers are winning. Who would have thought it though? Time will tell if I really was well short of the mark.
-
We are absolutely in real trouble here.
Feeling a bit more optimistic now?
-
Still doing better than most predicted we would be
-
New signings have made zero impact .you can talk all you like about development and new players needing time. Time is running out . Where on earth do we go from here? . Where is the next win coming from . ? Because I’m
Just not seeing where. I really had today down as one of those games rovers could realistically get 3 points . A point would not have been a catastrophe. But here we are. With nothing. At home, against a team we should have beaten. Utterly bereft.
-
Sutton United away looks an important game now. Could do with not giving them 3 points.
-
They were shocking
We should never be losing to sides like that, we were terrible but still should’ve won comfortably
-
McGrath has been excellent. Newport came to spoil and disrupt and they were allowed to do that by an inept American referee. Poor Ironside was battered. Rowe got an elbow to the face. Another day we win that game. I am keeping faith.
-
So long as we stay up this season, we can and should expect better next season. Luckily there are some very poor sides down at the bottom but we really need to start picking up a few wins.

I disagree with your opening line.
McGrath looks like a proper defender. 3 crunching tackles and a last ditch tackle, thought I was watching Matt Mills for a moment.

I have faith also. But at the moment it’s only by virtue of the teams below being poorer. I’d hoped that new signing would add a fresh impetus to the team, resulting in a positive outcome . I know footy is not like that, but surely it’s time our fortunes changed a little . The late goal today must really really hurt the team .

Me too, PDX. It sounded like the new signings are an improvement and the referee definitely not so. Almost a clean sheet and outdone by shithousery.

Thought I’d review my predictions . The MK result looks like a freak result based on Harrogate and today . Even so, it’s a point ahead of where I thought we would be . On to Bradford .
-
I’m 4 points behind what I predicted, but I said 0 from the next 2 games
-
Bump. I didn’t expect anything today. But id hoped against a pumping
-
Can’t see where the next win is going to come from between now and the end of the season.
-
A few days ago people were talking about us needing six wins and a draw from 19 games to get to 47 points and potentially, safety.
It didn’t sound like a big ask but after seeing us look so bad today I’m thinking that we might not get those results.
-
For the first time this season that performance worried me ,We are in deep trouble and non league football is getting to close for comfort.
-
I predicted 2-0 today.
But I expected that after 90 minutes, not 9.
-
Agree, we are sleepwalking into the National League.

6/1 for relegation. I’d be a lot happier if it was 66/1

Have a look on Grimsby’s forum. They are not a happy bunch and half of them want their new manager gone.
We have Walsall in a few weeks too. Also now bang out of form and calling for the manager’s head.

Doesn’t matter how we got them

To be fair if he’d put £10 on each result with the bookies he’d be up overall. 50% success rate really isn’t bad in that context, but in terms of overall points it’s not very good.

Mk dons 3
Harrogate 1
Newport 3
Bradford 0
Stockport 0
Sutton 3
Tranmere 3
Salford 1
Grimsby 1
Wimbledon 3
I took some stick for these predictions, but they don’t look so wildly optimistic anymore
You predicted 17 points and we are odds on to finish on 11 or 12. Massively out really.
You think we’re odds on to get 0 or 1 point from the two remaining games?
We are 15/8 to win the game which means we are 8/15 not to win. That’s odds on.
We’ve 2 games left not 1 though
Sorry, the order has done me there.
-
One win from being spot on with this points prediction.
-
Odds of 80-1 for relegation now.

Can I have your analysis on these predictions please.
You were very quick to jump on the old predictions but this 9 game prediction has now ended too.
You know the one where everyone was saying I was being wildly optimistic.
You seem to have ignored this one, funny that.
It looks to me that my wildly optimistic predictions ended up being 15 out of 17.

Dickos. I think the issue is that you ALWAYS err on the high side. That's what people pick you up on.
This time you've been close. Well done on that. But you've still erred on the high side. Your predictions would be more convincing if you sometimes underestimated the outturn. If that never happens, they look more like hopeful guesses, which, occasionally will nearly be right.
-
Predicting the next game's outcome is hard enough, never mind the next 10, as the PvO competition shows. If Rovers are doing well optimists will prevail, and if Rovers are doing bad pessimists will prevail. Most successful forecasters are neither optimists nor pessimists but are realists.
Perhaps some of the realists should show the rest of us how accurate your forecasts are by joining the PvO and using your heads instead of your hearts.

I don’t think I necessarily did err on the high side. It’s turned out a couple of points out but it’s still not a massive number of points, we should’ve beaten Salford and Bradford were it not for late equalisers.
It would be interesting for everyone to predict the number of points from the remaining 11 games and see what we all predict.
These previous 9 many thought it would be around 1pt per game would they expectation still be that low?

I can see the headline now “Football supporter accused in optimism shocker.”
Stranger things have happened than supporters seeing the best in our team and club, hey.
-
Dickos.
Err. You DID err on the high side. There's literally no arguing that.

[There's literally no arguing that./quote]
BST, normally, that statement would not be contested, but with Dickos?

Read the posts from earlier in the thread from yourself and others suggesting the predictions were ridiculous and we won’t get anywhere near etc etc.
my predictions were much closer than the negative ones
-
Find a post where I said any of that.

absolutely tremendous thread, this - can we please have a new set of predictions to cover matches to the end of the season - it would be a tragedy if this was just allowed to fizzle out now... :pinch:

It seems you're an Ostrich if you're an optimist and a Pillock if you're a pessimist on this forum!
Optimist = Head buried in the sand like an Ostrich.
Pessimist = Ungrateful Pillock!
That's it, .... the PvO competition is officially Pillocks versus Ostriches from now on!
