"Bit of EFL News understand Bolton Wanderers forward Conor Carty has agreed a loan move to Doncaster Rovers. #bwfc #drfc"
From Peter O'Rourke on twitter.

Wasn’t Copps at Bolton the other week watching a game?
-
Good luck to him. With Miller being out for a long period we need backup to help Ironside and Faal.
-
Doesn’t seem to have played much too date in England. Anyone any idea about him?

I've just googled him, and it makes grim reading. No games for Bolton; 4 games on loan at Oldham, no goals; 4 games at Gateshead, 1 goal; 34 games at St Patrick's, 5 goals.

Why is that grim? What can you tell from numbers on Wikipedia?

Hard working pressing forward is the line from the Bolton fans. Sounds like George Miller.
No one has said quick or prolific which is what we need.
His goals are on YouTube in separate clips.

Err, how many games he's played, and how many goals he's scored.
Come on, Einstein, give us inferior mortals your pearls of wisdom.

I don’t know anything about him. Neither do you.

Having barely kicked a ball going straight into regular game time in a physical league screams of yet another injury. May well be wrong though.

Not played a competitive game since 3rd November.

You'll only know if he's a goalscorer or not from them numbers, he might be a target man or a creative forward.

Give the lad a chance for Christs sake, we haven't even clapped eyes on him, and yet I bet if he had come from Manchester United or Brighton he would be welcomed with open arms, and we have had some right duds from there.

Same footy agent as Molyneux.

Hi guys Wanderers fan here to hopefully update you on young Connor Carty. We have very high hopes of this lad so look after him. He came from Wolves, was highly rated there but it didn’t work out so he came to play in our B Team as a trial. He proved his case there and was given a contract but we needed him to play men’s football and at a higher level so we sent him to St Patrick’s to joint Eoin Doyle who’d moved there the previous season.
He seems to have done really well and many of us hoped he’d go straight into our first team squad but Evatt wants him to get more experience first so looked for a suitable loan. He must have taken into account 5hat I’m only down the road in Barnsley so I can keep an eye on him?? The only reason he hasn’t played recently is because he came back from his loan at St Pats end of November but international rules say he can’t play until January. He’s done really well at St Pats and helped them to the Irish Cup in front of 40k fans so he’s not shy. I think he’ll do really well for you so look after him because we have high hopes of him here.

Sometimes it's best to keep your powder dry .
I remember feeling massively underwhelmed when we signed Carlton Morris in the 2021 January window .
He'd done 10 years at Norwich City and never made a single appearance for the Canaries , loaned out all over the place and didn't exactly cover himself in glory in league one and two .
We paid Norwich £300k which I thought was £250k too much .
He's playing every game in the Premier League for Luton Town today .
You just don't know .

He comes at a time when we are desperate for something new in the squad to shake things up. He could easily make himself a short term hero here. He won’t be alone I suspect in being a newcomer either.

Like most of our squad then ;)

Are we prepared to give anyone a chance before they kick a ball, or even signed for that matter!!??

You don’t even know if he’s a goal scorer really. If he’s been playing in a team that creates zero for him he wont have scored too many.

Well if that was the case, he’s going to love it here!

10 out of his first 11 appearances were as a substitute.
From May onwards he cemented his place in the starting XI with 5 goals out of 23 appearances.
0.28 goals per 90.
St. Patrick’s Athletic were the 3rd highest scorers in the division, but he didn’t seem to have many bad games. More often than not playing as a lone striker.
Irish football blog “Conor is extremely hard working, honest and I particularly like his physicality”.

But..but..but...Google says he's shit!! :silly:

DBR it’s not the Donny way……unfortunately
-
The stats for Marquis were nothing special before he joined us. Lets hope for the best.
-
If he can stay fit, battle for the ball, cross a few good balls into the box for Faal and Ironside I don't give a damn if he never scores a goal for us, he will improve on what is happening at the moment.
-
Well he’d better score goals for you because that’s what we’ve sent him out for, to see if he can do that at a good level. We don’t really know how good the Irish league is but I wouldn’t imagine most of it is even up to L2 standard so this will be a good test for the lad. We haven’t seen much of him at Bolton so far but we’re hoping he’ll do really well with Donny and then come back and fit into our first team squad. What we have seen we like so I’m hoping to pop along to see him during his time here.
-
The rumours I have seen is about Conor and a defender on trial both young lads for League 2.
If signed and can keep fit both will get their chances.
Now we come to the midfield which as been lacking for sometime. We need at least two players better than what we have get the midfield right and protect the defence and be able to drive forward. So January needs to be important in that area

He'll be back up in case of injury to the two first choice strikers. I'll be surprised if he makes half a dozen starts.

Maybe not, but it is unusual for opposition fans to applaud the names of one of your team’s players when they are announced and when we played Gillingham - where he’d been on loan, they always did! His work ethic was outstanding (just like May’s) and most others who are team assets and such players are valuable, especially at Rovers at the moment where we have very few.
-

I imagine he’s being brought in to bring intensity to the press and hopefully run in to channels / in behind to offer the midfielders a different option to Ironside. Faal is a good player but he doesn’t do either of those things.
I think he will play a fair bit if he’s good. But unless we get a creative midfielder in he’s not going to score much regardless.

Am I reading a different thread here? One poster called his stats grim and another concerned about injury, hardly as though he’s been taken for a flogging before we’ve even signed him!
-
There’s work ethic and then there’s the Biggins kind of work ethic. Runs all over the place, except for the right place and has never heard of a tackle - maybe he thinks it’s a term that belongs to fishermen (or women)!
Please, GM, can we get some midfielders!

Actually, the stats for Marquis's loans at Gillingham and Northampton were quite good.
-
Here is what is annoying about this forum. It has been pretty unanimous on here what this team needs in the next window. A lack of game time and experience in the league is not that. By no means saying this lad will be a flop but, you just can not call people out for pointing out the obvious. Its not negativity, its realistic. If you are offended by that then that is your problem. I am sure everybody will give the lad a chance. They would be foolish not to.
-
We need to add some experienced players to the young lads coming in. Experienced goalkeeper, centre back and midfielder would be helpful.

Just a general observation in my opinion - we had people slagging off our signings at the start of the season because they were from lower league teams and therefore not good enough

Bailey and Senior definitely good enough.
Broadbent not a great start but I think he'll come good next season.

Bolton with gates of a mere 21,000 have been rebuilt on terra firma they are bankers for automatic promotion and have a squad to match (so long as players don't get sent off)- plus a nice run of easy matches to look forward to.
I wouldn't be surprised if Faal got an upgrade to them (previously I suggested Peterbru). That would explain the loan and my bank manageress would be in favour of the move
It would be funny if he turned out a quarter as good as this one below( who played against Chelsea when 14 -- yes despite Ireland being in the euro they still count to a base ten at the moment)

Broadbent was signed from Premier League Sheffield United, where he had been since 2017. They were the only club he had signed permanently for in his career. We did not sign Broadbent from a lower league club.
