We held the mighty Liverpool in the FA Cup
-
Was there.remember :scarf: it well.

Thanks, I feel very old now. I went to the replay, I was so small I only saw the Ball when it was in the air, probably when Liverpool were hoofing it clear in panic from Kitch and big Bren.
-
2-2 and at the time we were bottom of Division 4. Scorers Kitchen and O ‘Callaghan.
The replay was played in very special circumstances but I'll leave that to someone who attended the game hopefully.

Work day afternoon, a lot of missing employees and school kids…
-
3 day week power cuts
Surprised to read we only had 500 fans there
-
I was on a night shift at Rockware so a load of us were good to go.
We were also at Anfield for the first game. In those days the draw was after the games. I think that the winner got Sunderland away. I’m sure that Shankley or one of the team said that the 2-2 draw was the hardest game that they had before going on to beat Newcastle 3-0 in a one sided final.

Was there really only 500 there ? I was 9 and there seemed to be 1000’s there
-
It was a sellout, 20 odd thousand- I thought the 500 was the number of Rovers fans that went to Anfield
-
We went in the Kemlyn Rd stand after paying on the day. I would have thought that there was more than 20,000 there.
When we went in 1969 we were in the end opposite the Kop and the were apparently 10,000 in that end that day.

I was there too but surely there were more than 500 of us

Yeah Rovers fans sorry if that wasn’t clear
-
I remember arguing with a Liverpool fan in front of me. He was saying that they had some reserves playing. My response was well you are saying that your reserves can’t compete with the bottom of the fourth division? That shut him up.
The four of us were on a night shift at Rockware but rang in to say we wouldn’t be there and had a night out in Sheffield on the way back.
We travelled on the newish M62 with hardly any traffic.

Bit of a strange day… Boston drawing at Derby, Hendon holding Newcastle (who went to the Final)
And YES, Shankley did say Liverpool’s hardest tie of the entire cup run they had was v Doncaster Rovers.
Great newspaper clip by the way.

I think we were the only side to score against Liverpool in the FA Cup that season.
