last 48 hrs 3 Champ clubs. Preston, Middlesbrough & Luton published accounts. Between them they made an operating loss of £178k a day & none are profligate. Acc to Richard Masters the PL is having a chat about distribution to EFL next month & is 'hopeful' about making progress
Now it's paid off for Luton granted , but loosing an average of 60k a day is madness when you don't win

Absolute nuts.
I watched the Parliamentary select committee question Masters and Parry discussing the finances, inequality and FFP rules/sanctions and the need for a regulator.
It was embarrassing for Masters as he squirmed when trying to defend the PL position.
We all know the financial system and the distribution down the Pyramid is screwed but getting reform is taking far too long.
The MPs kept asking him when changes are going to happen and he kept saying 'soon' and 'we're hopeful'
There's so many loopholes that clubs try to circumvent the rules by exaggerating income...so they can spend more...and accrue more losses.
Liimit income to 'sporting income' only, based on where clubs finish in the Pyramid, their match income and equitable solidarity payments. Then limit spending on wages and player trading as a proportion of that so all clubs live within their income.
Then you could have non sporting income such as sponsorships and commercial deals which can only be spent on infrastructure, maintenance, fans facilities, training grounds, youth development etc.
The amount owners can inject and how (ie not finance) also needs to be limited so that never exceeds sporting income, so if owners move on or pull out, their income can still cover costs.

Luton's wage bill £27m though that does include bonuses. To think we want to compete at that level with clubs like Luton...

Until wage caps throughout all the divisions the huge loses will continue. Players and their agents are sucking the future out of the game . Nothing wrong with paying players high earnings but caps on the liabilities of their clubs has to enforced. Let private sponsorship pay for everything else but a cap on the clubs wage bill has to be the answer as looses from wages of clubs are over 100% of clubs turnover income .

Money will be, and is, in some tragic cases, the death of football as we know it.
I saw a ticket stub the other day for the 1974 lge cup final. Cost of a standing ticket at Wembley was 80p.
Using an online CPI calculator, that 80p today is worth around £10.50.
We know that a lge cup final ticket in 2024 won’t cost this. No where near.
Football eats itself. Players wages. Agents. It’s only going to get worse. Clubs will go to the wall.

Football agents. They are th3 root cause of everything that is rotten financially in football.
Parasitic.
Corruption by culture.
Manipulation by vultures.
Look at the history of agents. From the sixties onwards the cancer has formed from within.
It’s metastasised hugely since.
players values and wages has gone unchecked for the last 6 decades. It shows little sign of abating. It’s cpi inflation on steroids. And then some.
Clubs cannot afford to keep paying the wages that players and agents demand.
Clubs, in search of success, will continue to live beyond their means. It only ends one way.
I’d gladly have a drfc in any league without debt, than run the risk of championship football in deep, dark debt.

It was more glamorous certainly, but I'd argue no more enjoyable than stuffing Scunthorpe at Glanford Park, or the win at Wigan in the rain

Agree, scaling those heights and playing those teams was fantastic but for me it still doesn't beat our first season back in the football league under Dave Penney!

I am reflecting on the 2010-11 season where we drew with Crystal Palace and Leicester City and in addition to the above wins beat Derby County, Burnley and Middlesborough. Could we now? And as for Scunthorpe, that year we beat them 3-1 away and 3-0 at home. Great days, never to be forgotten.
Isn’t football all about winning games, and with that comes promotion as a reward? Without winning and promotion it’s just a bunch of overpaid blokes kicking a ball about.
Let's face it, we all have different happy memories following this club which is the one thing we all have in common.

Petche, I agree with you completely. Another great time in our history, but this thread is about the Championship rather than great moments (which could be a mile long).
