Title: Nuneaton Borough
Post by: German Rover on January 19, 2024, 07:58:08 am
Our old rivals from the Conference days, have resigned from the league and are potentially going to go into liquidation.

Sad day for Nuneaton who seem to be a very unlucky town when it comes to football.

Sad to hear. Three sided ground if I remember right a bit like Newport's old ground.

Didn't we sign Gregg Blundell from them?

It was indeed Northwich Victoria, now in the Midland League Premier Division.

We did sign Paul Barnes immediately after he’d had a fruitful loan spell there.

No they moved from there quite a few years ago and now play, or played at the old rugby club ground. I saw Chippenham Town play them there in the Southern League play-off final in 2010.

In fact at that time they were called Nuneaton Town as they had gone bust and were climbing back through the leagues. They only became Borough again about 5 years or so ago.

Such a shame for their fans. I hope they get something sorted out but doubt it.

Shame. That was one of the better match day experiences in the Conference. Decent stewarding, friendly atmosphere from both sets of fans mixing in a pub by the ground and then seeing Rovers totally dominate the entire 90 minutes with Neil Campbell and Dave Penney missing loads of chances before we got caught out with a sucker punch against the run of play due to defensive lapse. Still, it’s good that things like that don’t happen these days.

Of course - well remembered!
