Have given themselves the best chance of a Hoodini style escape they’ve just appointed Steve Cotterill as manager. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea but he’s got vast experience and knowledge and his teams have a nasty streak.
-
When they sacked Deeney I said on another thread that they might just get a new manager who will give them a chance of recovering enough to stay up.

Didn't somebody on here tip these at the start of the season?? Along with Grimsby if memory serves me right!!
I need to check back.

I thought Grimsby would have a good season admittedly.

They might have had a few more points if they’d gone Cotterill first instead of wasting time on Deeney.

It’s seldom about the manger but what’s he’s got to manage …

I think Neil Warnock would disagree with that.

Cotterill was gravely ill not too long ago. While we may have some preconceived thoughts about his conduct in the past, I certainly wish the guy well as a human being and wish him luck in which I guess will be his first steps back into management since his illness. Maybe, he's mellowed a bit since and will be a little more humble.

He was Shrewsbury manager until the end of last season

“…..it’s seldom about the manager…..”.
Only 4-5% apparently.

New managers usually have an instant impact when underlying numbers have been ok, yet results poor, resulting in a sacking.
FGR have improved ever ever so slightly in the last 6 games. Enough for a big upturn? Unlikely but depending how much of a shitshow things were behind the scenes with Deeney, not impossible they improve noticeably.
